And honestly we don't need him back. He's old. He's broken down. We need to revamp that entire DT position. So might as well blow it up, let him go on his way and just start over.
MikeO never gets enough credit for being a brilliant NFL mind! The rest of us need to take notes when he speaks. I say we keep the Ferg and he proves MikeO wrong!

Based on talent and depth together (or lack-of), I'd put it THIS way:
I would rather go into the season relying on Channing Crowder and Akin Ayodele than Ted Ginn and Brian Hartline and Charlie Anderson and Cameron Wake.
If we can get a good NT to protect them (Hampton), our ILB's can be sufficient. They were ok in 2008. Not to say we don't need upgrades. I would at least like to see Ayodele replaced though.

The Associated Press reports Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin said there was not any update available on NT Casey Hampton (overweight), who has yet to practice during training camp.
Gerry Dulac, of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, reports Pittsburgh Steelers DL Casey Hampton (undisclosed) will miss the team's preseason opener Friday, Aug. 8, against the Philadelphia Eagles.

Gerry Dulac, of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, reports the Pittsburgh Steelers have removed DT Casey Hampton (conditioning) from the Physically Unable to Perform list.
Pittsburgh Steelers DT Casey Hampton (groin) was limited during the team's practice Wednesday, Sept. 17.
Ed Bouchette, of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, reports Pittsburgh Steelers DL Casey Hampton (groin) will not play in the team's Week 4 game.
Pittsburgh Steelers DL Casey Hampton (groin) has been ruled out of the team's Week 5 game.
Pittsburgh Steelers DL Casey Hampton (groin) is expected to practice Wednesday, Oct. 22, and is questionable for Week 8. However, at this point, Hampton has a good chance of playing.
Pittsburgh Steelers DL Casey Hampton (toe) is probable for the team's Week 9 game, although he may not practice until Thursday, Oct. 30.
Pittsburgh Steelers DT Casey Hampton (toe) missed the team's practice Wednesday, Nov. 5, but his status for Week 10 is unknown.
John Harris, of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review, reports Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin said he is not sure if DT Casey Hampton will report to training camp in shape. "I'm always in a wait-and-see position (with Hampton)," Tomlin said.
Not sure if Parcels will put up with this kind of laziness.
