This is a moderated phorum for the CIVILIZED discussion of the Miami Dolphins. In this phorum, there are rules and moderators to make sure you abide by the rules. The moderators for this phorum are JC and Colonel.
Out of sheer boredom from coming off a bye and not much else to discuss I will pose this question; If the season ended today and we were picking in the middle of the pack (15 to 20) what is our most glaring need in the first few rounds and what are some player names that would look good in Miami? I think obviously WR is a glaring need with getting a stud Safety and getting younger at LB coming in second/third. Thoughts?
There is a BIG difference between OLB in a 3-4 or 4-3. In a 4-3 the DEs are the pass rushers, hence the conversion of JT to OLB in the 3-4. Crowder may be better suited for a 4-3 than a 3-4, but in a 3-4 he's an ILB (WILB, as you noted).
WR is definitely important; however, if you follow league movement it is actually possible to get a quality WR in Free agency or trade. Starting ILB's are fewer and more expensive.
We have a dominant OL and should be able to maintain our running game next year. the Ol will be able to protect Henne who should be better next year.
Our passing game should be improved next year by virtue of the OL & QB play; but, Turner should be ready to contribute, Hartline will be better, and Ginn may have developed a 'deep' connection with Henne.
Our ILB play is weak, and there is nothing that I can point to that will improve it short of a new person. So it becomes priority #1.
I agree that Safety is another key spot.
If you consider that:
Year 1 they signed Wilford as a WR adjustment, and traded for Fasano, and Ferguson, and then drafted 2 DL and 2 OL.
Year 2 they made a move to acquire Grove, and Gibril Wilson and then drafted 2 CB's and 2 WR's
I would not be surprised if year 3 has us signing/trading for a WR and NT, and then drafting 2 ILB's and 2 safeties.
Since QB is now settled, they may draft another NT, RB, TE.

I think Davis will be the starting RCB next year. Crowder isn't suited for OLB in a 3-4, and Wake would be better at WOLB (in place of Porter). If we re-sign Roth, he may be our best option at SOLB. If not, then we may draft or sign someone else to take that spot, unless Moses or Anderson can step up into that position. I DO think we'll be drafting 2 ILBs (maybe McLain and Johnson), but they'll be competing with Ayodele and Crowder for playing time.
I don't see us starting a rookie FS next year. Safety is the toughest position to learn on defense in the NFL. Wilson isn't the solution either. If Clemons comes in this year and plays well, then it might be him opposite Bell. If not, I see us signing or trading for someone else. I wonder if Will Allen will have any trade value?
I'm hoping Soliai comes into his own this year and is consistent enough to play most of the game.
ok ok ok i know i know im going to get a lot of sh*t for this but I just love that guys heart i think hes gonna be a hall of famer no matter what everyone says hahahaha.
No no i am really liking Henne right now but if tebow was there id hate myself for passing him up hahaha.
In all seriousness i think we need some safeties and WR. Teddy is gonna come out of his shell soon and if we can add one more well be a huge threat in the air and on the ground with the wildcat.

We'd need to get a great one. Guys THAT good are few and far between.
Speaking of Michael Griffin, with the way the Titans are imploding, I wonder if we could work out a trade for him. If Fisher is fired, you never know what another coach/GM might do.
For those of you that want tim tebow. I have a feeling he is going to be a bust in the NFL. He is not a pure passer IMO. And he wont be able to take the pounding in the NFL.
I hope im wrong and i wish him the best but just a hunch.
Even with his height and weight he won't be able to do in the NFL what he does in college. JMHO

I've been a Gator fan all my life. I really like Tebow. He's just a class act with all heart. But I must agree, I don't think he's an NFL quaterback. Not even in the Wildcat. Ronnie and Ricky make that formation work. Ronnie with the head and running ability much better than Tebow.
Tebow does not have the NFL arm either. At least he has not shown it to me.
Love the guy though. And hope the Gators beat the hell out of Bama!
We need to do whatever we can to get Eric Berry.....
MARK IT DOWN!! HE IS THE NEXT ED REED!
Put that on paper Aqua&Orange called it and of all the things I am sure of, this one I am most. Eric Berry is the next Ed Reed and will be the best Safety of his era.
But if we really knew Ed Reed, or a similiar player of Reed's status was coming out? What do you do? That is a HUGE position of need for us. Im telling you, Berry will be the best.
What if Ed Reed was coming out of college all over again as a 21 year old...and he was going to turn out just as he has. Would you move up to get him? What would you give up?
We need linebackers who can give us a pass rush without having to blitz. We have OLD and SLOW linebackers and it makes our poor secondary look even worse
