I dislike Jeff Ireland and I think he is a bad GM, but I agree with the article.
People are going nuts over stupid things.
Matt Flynn is not a guy to get upset about, nor is Peyton "95 million dollars" Manning, a guy that we NEVER had any chance to land, regardless of who our coach, owner, or general manager were.

OK, I'll wait for the draft. BUT If, after all the talk about 'Upgrading the QB position' and hiring an OC to coach, we go into this season with freakin' MATT MOORE and DAVID GARRARD #1&2 and pick up some late round 'project' as #3, well, after 40 years it may be time to cut the cord....

I agree with you 100%. I believe we will draft Ryan Tannehill or Brandon Weeden. I will be satisfied with either of those guys on the roster. Weeden I would like to start right away, and Tannehill I think is going to need at least a year in the oven.
But if we wind up with another Pat Devlin? I will be the first man to join you in throwing eggs at Jeff Ireland and trying to help other fans run him out of town.

You are exactly right, unfortunately, that offense is now in Kansas City.

I'll agree that Moore looks better than anyone since Jay Feidler But really now what is that saying??? I watched him @ Carolina (live in Charlotte). He's inconsistent. Against better defenses, he struggles to make reads and becomes an interception machine.
Moore does not feel the rush (see: his troubling fumbling problem) and has serious accuracy issues. He will not be a good fit for the WCO, I don't think.
He's a good leader and a tough competitor but he is not a good QB. With Marshall, gone, he will be exposed.

I will give Moore that. At least he FINALLY got some production out of Marshall.

This is what I hope for. One of these guys with Moore starting till they are ready (hopefully sooner than later) and Garrard #3. BUT WHY GARRARD if we wanted a different #3?? That is what scares me.

Ah...good to know...I'd read somewhere that he had millions guaranteed.
So at this point he could be just training camp fodder who ends up at #2 or #3.
The front office said they where going to upgrade the QB position, the front office said they would make a splash, the front office said just wait to see the master plan after trading marshal. They are the ones that set them self's up for all this... Just come out and say we are rebuilding and going to try to do it with the draft or whatever the plan is. Don't keep feeding us short term hope when your plan is long term... Us season ticket holders would just appreciate some truth and see some light at the end of the tunnel.. We have supported this team for quite some time waiting for a good product, year after year just disappointing, then you are told they are going to do this and that and they don't do what they said they would do... How long can we stay positive waiting??? I will be sitting in the stands once again surrounded by apposing teams fans, making it feel as if it is an away game for the fins. You want me to be positive? buy up all the tickets to the games even if you can't go and do not sell them to the opposing teams fans...

I enjoyed the read. I dont agree with all Ireland's moves, but he doesn't panic, doesn't overpay, and cuts dead weight. So he's an a$$hole. Kinda sounds like New England and Pittsburgh who I think have had a little success.
The Dolphins are a laughing stock because the NFL Network and ESPN have to justify wall-to-wall NFL coverage with all the "Insiders", former players, etc. Small stories snowball into massive controversies. Very rarely will you hear a strong disagreement on any story amongst the announcers.
Take a step back and think about the "media fenzy" that EVERY STORY becomes now - Manning, Flynn, Smith. Hell, it happens even the NBA with the Lin kid from the Knicks for example. ESPN is full of tabloid reporters covering sports. (One must remember that Disney are marketing and publicity geniuses).
Every story/frenzy starts out with all the different reporters trying to scoop everyone else. Then as the truth becomes more apparent, they take THAT angle to the story and try to substantiate even more as if it were their opinion all along. They are all just listening to each other's reports then churning it up for ratings.
These same guys who are saying Ireland is a fool now will be saying what a tough negotiator, etc. he is if the dolphins win next season.
has anyone ever heard of a GM so hated around the league? He is becoming a pariah. Not a good quality to have when you are trying to attract talent. He never should have been retained and he is proving on a daily basis that he is a liability, not an asset.
Yes, I agree with the article that Ireland is not "the devil" and that his moves can be logically explained to some degree, but it is the manner in which he makes them (cutting Y Bell 2 weeks into FA, a team captain who you assured was "safe," should do wonders for morale in the lockerroom), and the way he deals with people (players referring to the "vibe" as a reason they don't want to come here--flynn, clark; the Dez Bryan saga which I think is stupid but is obviously a BIG deal in the nfl culture), that make him, and therefore us, essentially toxic around the league. Has any GM ever been viewed like this? Matt Millen maybe, but those were stupid personnel moves, not visceral hatred of his personality.
Sorry, what good has he brought to the table? The goal in the offseason was to upgrade the offense and we've done nothing but subtract in that regard and are now totally desperate to come out of the draft with a QB---and that never ends well at all (get ready to reach/trade up, etc)
In the league perception becomes reality and the perception of Ireland is that he is an a$$ no one wants to deal with. Any wonder we lost out on Harbaugh, Fisher, Manning, etc? Now he may not be the main reason (esp with Manning) but isn't the GM supposed to be a positive and not a liability to a team?

DOnt be logical, sheep want to be sheep... And the Truth is obviously blind sometimes.......
Polian is not hated, as far as I know he's considered one of the best (maybe a jerk to those he works with, but I'm not talking about that). Not sure about smith. But I am not talking about fan hatred, I am talking about hatred from "inside" the league (players, etc).
And at least those guys have a track record of some success. What has Ireland brought to the table here or anywhere as a GM?
People around the league absolutely despise AJ Smith. I'm not commenting on success or failure, but you can just do a google search on AJ Smith and see the litany of people who have badmouthed him over the years.
Tolbert just took less money to get out of San Diego and he's been feuding with Vincent Jackson for years. And yes, he has been pretty successful, for the most part.
Let me read between the lines....As long as Ross/Ireland are in Miami we are fubar. Wonder if Philbin has already seen this? WIll he be another 1 season wonder?

One CRITICAL piece of info missing from here.
1) Did Flynn turn down a higher offer from Miami than Seattle's (for the "right people", fit, yadda yadda yadda)?
or
2) Did Flynn get a matching offer from the Dolphins, and decided to go to Seattle?
or
3) Did he go to Seattle because the Dolphins were not offering to pay him as much?
If it is #3 then this story is weaksauce.
