Is Matt Moore really THAT good, or are the new rules helping?

At least three, maybe four, QBs will likely break Marino's single season records this year..and one could be a rookie!! This season reminds me of the year that Sammy Sosa and Mark McGuire BOTH broke Roger Maris's single season homerun record.

We've watched Tim Tebow complete clutch passes. We've seen T J Yates throw for 300 yards!! We even saw Chad Henne throw for almost 500 yards in the first game of the year!!

So, what does this all mean?

It means that QB play this year is being heavily inflated: part skill and part smoke-and-mirrors. The new defensive rules are not only making it possible for great QBs (like Rodgers, Brees, and Brady) to look like Gods, but it's also making mediocre QBs look like franchise QBs. It's making rookies like Cam Newton and Andy Dalton look like savvy vets. Even Alex Smith is playing well!!!!

So, exactly HOW GOOD IS Matt Moore? I'm not sure if we really know.

The rules on the CB, have been around for a few years now. That was the biggest advantage to QB's. I think alot of the defense were slow to come together this year becasue of the lockout...So that gave the offenses a boost they normally dont get. Normally the defenses are ahead of the offenses at start of season.

There are alot of QB's that dont look good this year.. Matt Moore, will only get better IMO, if we continue to improve the protection and or oline.

But i see your point aqua. Both records will amount to no playoffs for the next 10 years.

i don't understand this question. all of the QBs play under the same rules, so he is as good as he is in comparison to everyone else.
and that's really not that great, anyway. he's about the 12th best QB, among QBs all playing under the same rules.

Its really insane and you cant be on your right mind if you agree with not drafting a qb in the first round.

WHoever sees otherwise must have their heads checked because they aint thinking right.

Haven't you seen what we've gone through without a dam qb.

GET OFF THE CRACK PIPE!!!!!!!!!winking smiley

I just think ALL QBs are looking better than they would under, say, the rules Dan played with. The rules are, essentially, leveling the playing field QB-wise, which is scary the NEXT time they change rules (and you KNOW they will!!). Pretty soon defenses will adjust and you'll see the T.J.Yates's and, probably, the Matt Moore's come back to earth. The great QBs will still be great, but the average ones will be exposed.

I'm just worried that Moore is benefiting from this just like Matt Cassell benefited from the NFL's "special" rules for the Pats.

I guess I just don't see Moore as playing all that amazing. Now if you're question was--is Brees and Rogers as good as Marino, or are they breaking his records because of the new rules, I'd see your point. But it's not like Moore is tearing it up or anything

Moore looks like he has a ton undeveloped upside. I am all for keeping him as our 2012 starter and seeing how good he can get.

BUT....

Teams do film studies on QB's, they look for tendancies, tells, deficiencies and then attack them. I remember watching a Broncos game where they kept zooming in on Elway's hands under center because it was reported that the defense had noticed on film that Elway rubbed his fingers before the snap on passing plays. The DL was peeking and yelling. he had to overcome that habit. teams look for QB's that 'rabbit' easily. Teams figured out that to disrupt Marino that you had to pressure the pocket up the middle.

THAT is why guys look hot one season and crap the next. Moore will be analysed and broken down. So how he does NEXT season is a better barometer of how good he is.

SO.....we draft one of the top 3 QB's and let him develop as a back-up, we start Moore and see how good he is. And if he is very good we extend him and/or franchise him and then we can wait or trade one of them.

We have pissed away so many draft picks trying to get a 'steal'. I won't cry if we trade away a couple to go after one of the big fish.

Problem is, without Barkley in the draft, who constitutes the "top 3" in the draft now?

Their isnt a top 3.

Only a Big 2. Maybe. That is, if RG3 decides to come out. College that is.

We just might find out. No barkley means Luck and Griffin will go fast. Moore may be out Best shot next season.

moore will likely be our best shot next season regardless. i think we could go .500 with moore next year. that doesn't mean we shouldn't look to get a young QB but getting RGIII will be extremely difficult now.

Moore will never make it farther than the 3rd spot on a teams depth chart. I promise.

If your saying Kellen Moore is our best option, then just go with Matt Moore...win 2 games next year (which is what will happen when Moore will start) and go after Matt Barkley.

to clarify i got confused. my earlier post was about matt moore not kellen moore. kellen moore would be a wasted draft pick.

Moore IS our best choice for next season...even if we draft a rookie he should have to beat out Moore and Henne and Devlin in order to EARN the starters job. Even Luck should be made to WIN the job...I don't think any of then can, because Moore has been playing well mostly.

At least for next season, we should continue to build the team around the QB and sit our rookie. Once that rookie is ready and he wins the job...then he has earned the right to play.

I'd be all for replacing Henne with Flynn provided we didn't over pay. But, even then...the best guy in OUR camp should play, not the best guy in theory, or the best guy in the newspapers, or the fans choice...no guarantees at any position.

Trust me Ken,

Even a decent QB will beat out Matt Moore.

Henne? That's assuming we re-sign him, right?

Henne is not decent, though. He is actually a notch or two *BELOW* Moore.

nope, a&o. if moore continues to play at this level then it will take a good QB to beat him out. however, im not guaranteeing that Moore can continue his current level of performance.

If Moore starts next season this team will win more than two games...bank on it.

Henne isn't terrible and with the amount of improvement he showed in the four first games of this season he deserves to be bought back. Not saying he will be, but he deserves the chance to attend training camp. Where we go from there is entrirely up to how he performs...same as Moore and Devlin.

Moore is playing good ball and I agree, it will take a much better than average guy to beat him out. I hope we get one because the team would be better for it...but if we can't Moore is good enough for the time being.
