*** DOLPHINS NEWS ***
Dec 11, 1997: -- Buckley Name AFC Player of the Week --

Terrell Buckley was named the AFC's defensive player of the week for his 2 interception performance against the Detroit Lions on Sunday night. For T-Buck, it is the second time he has been named the player of the week, the first coming in 1995 for his performance against the Rams in week 15. Both of Buckley's player of the week honors came with the Dolphins.

On Sunday, Buckley had 8 tackles and 2 interceptions, plus a third interception that was nullified by a penalty.

In other news, the Dolphins have re-signed wide receiver Jasper Strong to the practice squad. Strong was acquired as a free agent and spent time with the Dolphins during training camp for a while and also spent most the fall on the practice squad before being cut last month.

The signing of cornerback Denorse Mosley to the regular team from the practice squad left the Dolphins with an open spot that has now been filled by Strong.

My Comments:

I love to see Buckley get credit for his accomplishments. I think that the guy got a bad reputation in Green Bay for his attitude and that that has unfairly prejudiced fans against him so that he takes more than his share of heat when he makes a mistake.

It's sort of the reverse of Dan Marino. When Marino makes a mistake, some fans line up to defend him regardless of how bad the mistake was. When T-Buck plays well, some fans line up to bash him, no matter how well he plays.

Personally, I'm in favor of giving credit where credit is due and of placing responsibility for mistakes where it is due - regardless of the person involved.

Still, being a fan is not about logic. It's about emotional involvement with the team and sometimes our emotions get the best of us.

So, in the spirit of being a fan, I have something to say to all you Buckley-Bashers out there -

Phhhhhpppppptttttttttt!!!!!!

( For those without text-to-sound translation, the above comment should be interpreted as the sound of a very big raspberry ;-)
