Dolphins News: Mitchell Definitely Signed

*** DOLPHINS NEWS ***

Jul 17, 1996: -- Mitchell Definitely Signed --

It has been confirmed - Johnny Mitchell signed a contract for undisclosed terms today and will be wearing number 86, which was the number of the man he replaced - Eric Green.

Mitchell is entering his 5th year in the NFL, after being drafted by the Jets as a sophmore in 1992. He was waived by the Jets this spring for salary cap reasons.

Mitchell is apparently an enormously talented athlete, but has a reputation for having a bad attitude and for occasionally dropping the easy pass.

During his career, he has had 158 receptions for 2,086 yards and 16 touchdowns. Last season, he only played in 11 games due to back problems but managed 45 catches for 497 yards and five TDs.

Also in the news, the Dolphins waived four players today - WR Shannon Myers, CB Rodney Ray, Safety Pat Johnson and TE Ronnie Williams.

My Comments:

I've said all I have to say about Mitchell for right now, but I am wondering why Ronnie Williams, who was going to be the starter until Mitchell was signed, was waived today. His salary must be more than I had remembered.
