Dolphins News: Johnny Mitchell Signed - Maybe

*** DOLPHINS NEWS ***

Jul 17, 1996: -- Johnny Mitchell Signed - Maybe --

ESPNet is reporting that the Dolphins have finally signed former Jets tight end Johnny Mitchell to a contract. Of course, they had reported that last week and it turned out to be untrue. I have not had any independent confirmation of that fact.

However, it agrees with an article in the Miami Herald from yesterday saying that the Dolphins had nearly reached a deal yesterday with Mitchell, but that it had not been completed at the last minute because of a few details.

Also in the news are a few more details about the signing of free agent defensive tackle Demetrius Edwards. Edwards, a 6-3, 285 pound lineman from Fresno State did attend training camp in Dallas last year, but was cut and signed by the Saskatchewan Roughriders of the CFL. I don't have stats on him for his CFL experience.

My Comments:

If Mitchell has finally been signed, it's probably a good thing. I'm not that excited about having Mitchell, but if Jimmy can get him to play his best, he could very well turn out to be a fine addition to the team.
