[07/30/10] -- Training Camp 2010 Opens
The Dolphins opened their 2010 training camp today with high hopes for the coming season but will many questions still waiting to be answered. A flurry of last-minute signings, both of rookies and of veterans, allowed the team to open training camp without any holdouts. This year, as always, we at Phins.com will do our best to keep you up-to-date with the latest news on the News Wire, as well as providing periodic training camp reports on the Phins.com 2010 Training Camp page.

To get you started for training camp this year, we have Bitchin Dave's newest "On Porpoise" podcast. In this episode - the last of the offseason - Dave reviews some pressing questions as we head into training camp and recaps some recent news. Plus, he takes a look back at the 1984 season and has an old interview he did with Jim Jensen and Mark Duper. To listen, Click Here for Dave's "On Porpoise" Podcast.

[07/23/10] -- Training Camp Almost Here
Training camp begins one week from today and while much is already known about the look of the team for the 2010 season, there are still quite a few questions that need to be answered before the first game. This week, Phins.com columnist Chris Shashaty talks about 10 of these questions in his latest column, 10 Questions Going in to Training Camp.

[07/12/10] -- South Florida Sports Shakeup
Last week, Lebron James shook up the basketball world by choosing to sign with the Miami Heat. While this does not effect the Dolphins directly, it does tilt the balance of public attention from the Dolphins to the Heat - at least, for the time being. Will this cause problems for Miami's dominant pro sports franchise in the future? Phins.com columnist Chris Shashaty talks about these developments in his latest column, Heat Will Challenge Dolphins for Top Billing.

Also, this week, Phins.com presents Bitchin' Dave's latest podcast. In this show, Dave's got news from around the world of sports, he takes a look at the NFL strike of 1987, he gives us an update on concussion research, he replays an interview he did with Tim Bowens in 1987 and he chats with "The Football Scientist", K.C. Joyner. So check out Dave's "On Porpose" podcast: Dolphins' recap for 7-6-2010.

[06/25/10] -- Some Offseason Observations
This is the time of the football season when there is nothing for us fans to do but wait and prognosticate. All the OTAs, mini-camps and “voluntary” team workouts are pretty much over. Before training camp starts, there might be a free agent signing or two and there is the relatively uninteresting supplemental draft. However, there is still much to talk about and this week, Phins.com columnist Chris Shashaty gives us his take on some of the more interesting stories from this off-season in his column “Offseason Observations”.

[04/24/10] -- Dolphins Continue Draft With Focus on Defense
The Dolphins have now drafted 2 defensive linemen, one linebacker, one cornerback and one offensive tackle. With Mike Nolan as the new defensive coordinator, the Dolphins are looking to move to more of a "hybrid" defense, combining elements of both the 4-3 and the 3-4 defense. With that in mind, the team has drafted some players who are more flexible. The Dolphins still need to find a safety in this draft, but they have time to do that.

[04/23/10] -- Dolphins Start Draft With Trade Down
The Dolphins started the 2010 draft last night with a big trade with San Diego to move out of the number 12 spot all the way down to number 28 in the first round. And with that number 28 pick they selected DT Jerod Odrick from Penn State. Odrick played in a 4-3 scheme at Penn State, but projects to be a defensive end for the Dolphins. He does not have exceptional physical talents, but plays hard every down and is relentless, often winning his battles with effort. He is reportedly better against the run than the pass, but in Miami's 3-4 scheme, his run-stopping ability will be more important than pressure on the passer. He had some exceptional stats as a senior at Penn State, picking up 70 tackles, with 10 stops for losses, five sacks and three blocked kicks. This was despite being double-teamed much of the time as he was the most disruptive force on the Penn State line.

In the trade with San Diego, the Dolphins gave up their 12th pick in the 1st round and their 12th pick in the 4th round for the 28th pick in the first round, the 8th pick in the 2nd round, the 28th pick in the 4th round and LB Tim Dobbins. Dobbins is in his 5th year in the NFL and has been a backup for most of his career.

[04/22/10] -- The Draft is Here!
The 2010 Draft starts tonight with the first round selections, starting at 7:30 PM EDT on ESPN and the NFL Network. Only the first round will be tonight and the Dolphins currently have the number 12 pick in the first round. Right now, the focus is on defense for the Dolphins and an outside linebacker or a safety are the most likely picks. On Friday, starting at 6 PM EDT, the NFL will have the 2nd and 3rd rounds and the 4th through 7th rounds will happen on Saturday. You can check out Miami's Draft picks on the Phins.com Draft Page. Also, be sure to check out Phinfever Mock Draft Central, which is a combined list of 60 different mock draft results for the Dolphins. And, of course, the Phins.com News Wire will have continuous news updates throughout the draft.

New Phins.com "On-Porpoise" Podcast! Phins.com has decided to move into the 21st century by partnering with Bitchin' Dave of Dave's Bitchin' Look at the Miami Dolphins to create the first ever Phins.com podcast. This podcast will cover all aspects of the team and while Bitchin' Dave will take the lead in producing it, both Curt and Chris Shashaty will be regular contributers. You can check out his first two podcasts on Dave's Phins.com page. Dave's podcasts will also appear in the News Wire.

[03/08/10] -- Free Agency Begins
The 2010 season began on Friday with the opening of free agency for the NFL. The Dolphins, as they have since the Bill Parcells era began, wasted no time in going after their number one priority, linebacker Karlos Dansby of the Arizona Cardinals. Widely regarded as the best inside linebacker available, Dansby arrived in South Florida on Friday and signed a contract on Sunday. While many pundits believe that the Dolphins overpaid for Dansby, it is clear that this free agency period is going to be expensive for every team that wants a premier player.

In other news, the Dolphins will host Steelers' Safety Ryan Clark today in an attempt to find a player to take the place of Gibril Wilson, who was released last week after a less-than-stellar season with the Dolphins. While the team will continue to look for free agents this spring, they will probably be looking at bargains from now on. The Dolphins will most likely look to fill their other needs in the draft.

[02/19/10] -- Phins.com Interview with Kendall Langford
Phins.com columnist Chris Shashaty continues his post-season series this week with an Interview with Dolphins' DE Kendall Langford. Langford was one of the first players drafted by GM Jeff Ireland after the new Parcells regime took over. He had an excellent rookie year and has been one of the more consistent defensive players the Dolphins have had over the last two seasons.

[01/29/10] -- Phins.com Interview with Greg Camarillo
Greg Camarillo has been a productive receiver for the Dolphins for 3 years now, but he is most famous for a play called "Scat-Left-Ernie", which saved the 2007 Dolphins from the ignominy of a 0-16 season. That 64 yard touchdown reception from Cleo Lemon elevated Greg Camarillo from "who?" to a household name for Dolphins' fans and will be remembered as one of the most famous plays in Dolphins' history. This week, Phins.com columnist Chris Shashaty gives us a close-up look at Camarillo with his latest column, Interview with Greg Camarillo.

[01/12/10] -- Dolphins Fire Defensive Coordinator
The Dolphins announced yesterday that they have terminated the contract of defensive coordinator Paul Pasqualoni, after the team finished in the bottom half of the league in most of the important defensive categories in 2009. Perhaps more concerning to the Dolphins' staff than the statistical rankings was the inconsistent and lackluster performance of the defense in critical situations at the end of the season. Pasqualoni's successor has not been named, but some of the names being tossed about include Al Groh and Romeo Crennel.

Also today, Phins.com columnist Chris Shashaty had the opportunity to participate in a Q&A session with Dolphins' GM Jeff Ireland recently and gives us his take on the past, present and future of the Dolphins in his article Q&A with Miami Dolphins GM Jeff Ireland.
