*** DOLPHINS TRAINING CAMP ***
Aug 13, 1999
: -- Day 17 - Aug 12th --
TODAY'S REPORT:
The Dolphins only had one practice on Thursday and it was only
a walk-through in preparation for the pre-season game against the
Saints on Monday night. There is very little to report - none of the
papers or fans in Miami have any reports about the Thursday practice.
JJ'S COMMENTS:
JJ talked mostly about what he's planning for the Saints game
on Friday night. In other words, he said very little of real
substance. He said that the coaches would look closely at individual
players during the game and that he expected the game to be intense.
On the other hand, JJ also told the players not to worry too much about
their performances, because final decisions won't be made until almost
September.
ROSTER MOVES:
None on Thursday.
FUTURE EVENTS:
The Dolphins face the Saints on Friday night and then have
Saturday off. They'll return to practice on Sunday at 3:00 PM.
INJURY REPORT:
DE Trace Armstrong and WR Nate Jacquet returned to practice on
Thursday. FB Roosevelt Potts (right calf strain) and DT Walter Scott
(right knee sprain) missed practice and are listed as day-to-day. RB
J.J. Johnson (strained left hamstring) is expected to be out for
approximately one week to 10 days from the date of the injury (August
7). LB Sammie Burroughs (back) and LB O.J. Brigance (back) remain on
the club’s Active/Physically Unable to Perform List. LB Anthony Harris
(groin) is expected to be out 10-12 weeks as he recovers from surgery
performed on August 3.
EYEWITNESS REPORTS:
None today.
My Comments:
JJ painted a pretty laid-back picture about the game on Friday
night. Hopefully, the team will have fewer mistakes and not make JJ as
mad about their performance as they did during the scrimmage.
I'm sure that we'll see a lot of Cecil Collins and I would be
surprised if we saw Karim Abdul-Jabbar at all. But you never know for
sure what JJ will do. I'm pretty sure we'll see Yatil Green on the
field and I hope that he catches at least one pass tonight.
I always have to remind myself before a pre-season game that
it's not winning that's important. What's important is that the first
team performs well and that the rookies and young players get a chance
to face a real opposing team.
Having said that, it sure would be nice for the Dolphins to win
this game, but it isn't necessary. The only really important thing we
have to worry about is injuries.
Here's to no injuries on either team tonight.
