Did turn out OK with Marino, but we lost the game to the Bills.

25 years ago, after about 6 games, leading into a home game against the Buffalo Bills the Dolphins named their new rookie QB the starter.
That turned out ok.

I don't think you can give a QB only the first qtr - it may take time to wear a defense out or to get them anticipating one set of plays before you can unleash another set. i don't know what the answer is, but like Bruce, I suspect the answer will come from an injury

Which introduces an interesting question - IF Pennington isn't the long-term solution, how long is the short term?
By that, I mean, do you see a scenario where the coaching staff would start to give him (Henne) some playing time this season? Personally, I'd like to see them give him a 4th quarter to start out with. Then before the season is over, let him start a game, with the understanding going in that he is only going to play the 1st qtr. BUT – if he was doing a good job, let him keep playing.
But, I guess that all depends on the answer to my initial question. But if you're wanting to build this team, & give it the best chance it has to develop, then giving Henne playing time against starting players in real game situations will only help when it comes time for training camp next year. I'm not talking about a QB controversy – I'm talking about developing a young QB. & it seems the scenario I laid out would be about as good as it could be.
