You want to be on the home side in the upper part of the 100 level (row 22
or so or higher) to be in the shade most of the game IIRC.

Speaking of the stadium, can I interrupt this thread with a bleg? I'm
getting tickets to the Pats game. I'll have little kids with me and want to
get them some shade if possible. Club seats are not an option, bc of the
$$$$$. Assuming it's still a 1pm start, what sections do you recommend?
Upper endzone on the West side, in front of the scoreboard? Feel free to
email me privately at jcohn at tnr.com.
As for the stadium and camera shots, the Superdome in New Orleans has (or
used to have) alternating color seats precisely so that it can look full
even when it's not. Or so I recall learning on a tour years ago.

The smart stadium owners put in seats of hard various colors in random
patterns. Makes it harder to tell what is empty.
Garbo...glad I'll be in South Florida for the 1st week of post season.

Also, if I'm not mistaken the seats are bright orange, which show up
extremely visibly on a camera pass. Several other stadiums have seats that
are less obnoxiously colored and may not appear to be empty on a camera
sweep.

Does the stadium crowd look as pathetic in person as it does on television?
The short answer is no. The game was a sellout and there are a lot of open
seats in the upper decks, but the lower area was full for most of the game.
But I thought the crowd was very much into the game and was very loud.
But there are a couple of things that happen that make the stadium look less
full that it might be. One thing is that the folks on the north side of the
stadium ( those that are sitting with the sun in their faces) tend not to
take their seats until the last minute before kickoff and stay out longer at
halftime.
My understanding is that there are no concessions being sold in the stands
anymore, so folks have to go out to get drinks. At halftime, the north
stands were practically empty with folks trying to get food and drinks and
with halftime so short, they don't get back to their seats until midway
through the third quarter. The north stands were full in the 4th quarter.
The TV shots of the stands tend to be either before the game or at halftime
and they always look empty.
It could be a lot better, especially if they could find some way to get some
shade on the north stands, but it's not as bad as it looks on TV.
