At what point would/should it be considered a formation? At one time i'm sure the spread offense was new and considered a gimmick but it eventually evolved into an accepted formation, same as the shotgun etc. The Dolphins didn't create this new formation (they brought it over from college) but if it remains succesful and if more teams perfect it they will be known as the innovators of a new forma
