I'm a little confused here. Most people on this board picked us to win 9 - 10 games this year before the season started. 9 wins would be a 2 win improvement over last year. Yet I hear that (1) we have a dearth of talent, and so we have to fire Ireland, and (2) we have to fire Philbin because he is a horrible coach. My take is that we have beaten New England, Indy, and Cincinnati, all playof

Philbin did a great job seeing that Brenner, an undrafted rookie free agent that none of the other 31 teams wanted, had potential and signed him to the practice squad. There was virtually no chance that Brenner would unseat an incumbant starter like Incognito (who was their 2nd best O-lineman last year) in training camp, and being an undrafted rookie free agent (did I mention that none of the ot

I don't always agree with BNF's posts, although I tend to agree more then I disagree. I always read them though for entertainment purposes.

Wilson was a 3rd round pick. That means 31 other teams passed on him also. Twice.

Hindsight is 20:20. I don't think anybody on this board thought we should keep Carpenter after last season. Almost everyone on this board was giddy that we had Sturgis in the pre-season making Carpenter expendable. Carpenter did not have a very good preseason either if memory serves.

Eesti's points are spot on. Everyone expects Tannehill to be a top 5 QB by his 2nd year. It usually doesn't happen like that. Those QBs are the exception and not the rule. Brees, Rodgers, Brady, Rivers, etc. etc. all took time to develop. Remember all the Suck for Luck people? Tannehill: 3115 yds, 62.1%, 6.91 yds/att, 17 TD, 13 INT Luck: 2793 yds, 58.1%, 6.68 yds/att, 15 TD, 8 INT

That is the difference between Davon Bess and Gibson. Bess would have fallen down at the 1st down marker.

Last I checked Jordan had a sack in his first game as a pro with limited playing time. Not too shabby.

On that overthrow to Wallace, if you watch the replay, Wallace stumbled (looks like he may have gotten a bit tangled up with the D. If he doesn't stumble that ball may not have been overthrown. It wasn't much, but enough to lose a step.

No, I would not fire him. I would sign him to a 10 year extension with a guaranteed contract. He is the greatest coach for the the Jests since the glorious Rich Kotite era.

It shouldn't matter where you are drafted. Once you are on a team, the draft is over and you're the same as anyone else. A coach or GM who keeps a player simply because of his draft position is an idiot. Keep the most talented players on the roster and let them develop.

I just don't understand people giving up so quickly on Tannehill after 1 preseason game in just his second season. Some quick review of facts: Drew Breese was a bust his 1st 3 seasons with the Chargers. That's why they drafted Eli Manning. Tom Brady got to sit on the bench learning behind Drew Bledsoe before he ever got to start. Aaron Rodgers sat on the bench behind Favre his 1st 3 se

CB, Philly and Pittsburg are as different as San Fran and LA. One is western PA, and the other is eastern PA, and PA is a big state with mountains in the middle. You might as well be living in a different state. I grew up outside of Philly, and never followed nor cared about any team from Pittsburg. And people from Pittsburg don't follow or care about teams from Philly. If you dispute that po

This is not rocket science. NBC is trying to market the game. More specifically, they're trying to market the game to fans outside of the Phins' and Cowboys' fanbase, because they know we'll be watching the game. So they associate the teams with the most recognizable names on those teams - players that other fans might actually want to watch. Outside of Miami, few people really know or care

Next year it will be Ryan Tannehill and the Miami Dolphins. Right now, Mike Wallace is the most recognizable name on the Phins outside of Miami. It's better than being Chad Bumphis and the Miami Dolphins.

This wasn't about money. This is about building a core team. Bess would have been gone next year with free agency. Only 2 situations would have occurred if we kept him this year: Either he has a good year like last year (good - not great), and some team desparate for a wide receiver offers much more money than he's worth, or he does very little this year in this offence with the other receive

Ireland and Philbin have made it clear they are trying to get younger and faster at every position, and to build this team for the long haul by signing younger guys to cap friendly deals. In addition to Bess' shortcomings as far as not being a fit for this system, he is probably on the down side of his career instead of the upside, and he will be a free agent next season, so the Phins would have

I would put Buoniconti as my last face. Shula, Marino, Csonka and Buoniconti. He was the face of the no-name defense. You can argue that Csonka carried the '72 team to the undefeated season, but it was really the defense that carried them. People forget today how dominant they were - #1 against the run, #1 against the pass, #1 in points allowed. To not have a member of that defense on their

THE Truth Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > > Jackie Shipp... Yeah, forgot about him. And for good reason. It was amazing how bad our draft picks were from about '85 - '90. And then there was our supposed saviour at running back, Sammie "hands of stone" Smith... (and nose of coke for that matter).

We also had a bunch of really bad high-round draft picks in the mid- to late- 80's that killed us, especially on defence. Eric Kumerow, Rick Graf, John Bosa. Ugh. It started to get better when we drafted Jarvis Williams, then Louis Oliver the following year.

This is the quote I like from the article: Tannehill says he has also spent a large amount of time this offseason trying to improve his footwork. "I'd say 90 percent of throwing a football are the feet," he explained. Early in his career, someone asked Marino what made him successful, and Marino replied it was he feet. He understood the value of good footwork, and it looks like

Sparano was a player's coach. He would not have sat Bush after those fumbles, but probably encouraged him and given him a fist pump or two. Where did it get Sparano? Philbin is trying to establish his authority with a new team. Bush fumbles 3 times in a few games and he gets benched for a short time. Sends a message to the team that it doesn't matter who you are, if you play poorly you get

I am all for moving back and picking up extra picks. The draft is often little more than a crap shoot. The more picks you get the better your odds of finding a star. Aside from the occasional sure-fire star coming out (e.g. Andrew Luck last year), there is no sure thing. There were a lot of questions about RGIII and his transition to the pros last year (still are after his injury). For every
