This morning, I had to ban user ChyrenB permanently. This was solely my decision, based on his most recent posts. The moderators and I have repeatedly warned him about posting politics and insulting other users. He's been suspended twice, but still refuses to play by the rules. The takeaway from this action for the rest of you is this: I give you all a lot of slack in what you post, but m

Hi Folks, Yeah, I need to do that. No guarantees when that will be, however. I'll try to get it done this weekend. Curt

Much as I would like to hire JC to be my moderator full time, I'm afraid he couldn't afford to have an Internet connection on what I'd have to pay him and that kind of defeats the purpose. Thanks JC for everything you do. And you missed one of the most enjoyable games I've ever been to!

For a variety of reasons, Phins.com is undergoing some changes. I hope to have a bigger announcement in a few days.

Crowder52 Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > What type of money would it cost to fix this > issue? It's definitely a server issue; specifically it's the DB that can't keep up. I use the a mysql DB to serve both the message board and the news wire. With the added load on both the message board and the news wire during a big game, it gets overloaded.

Unfortunately, the site is not very robust under large loads and I forgot to clean out the DB before the game. Usually, if I archive the older articles from the News Wire, it works ok, but I forgot to do that on Saturday. My apologies. I'm going to be spending some time this week looking into solutions. Curt

What it means is that I'm going to make the News Wire configurable so that you can choose which feeds you see and which you don't. That's all.

Phins.com Fans, I am (unfortunately) well aware of the issues with the Ft. Lauderdale Sun-Sentinel feed now that they have decided to force users to subscribe to their sports site. As a result, I'm going to undertake a project during the off-season to allow users to customize the news feed on the website by selecting which sources they want to see. The technical details have yet to be w

I can remove Omar Kelly, but the problem is that he is one of the main sources for Dolphins' news.

Well, *safe* is not really a term one should use where the internet is concerned. More or less safe is really where it's at. But Chrome does have a pretty good record so far.

It was almost certainly something in one of the Ads. I don't knowingly load anything from "streeter.com" in any of my pages, but the ads are loaded from third-party sites and I have very little control over what gets loaded. Once in a while, some bad ads do slip through. As far as browsers are concerned, most of the security studies I've read rate Google Chrome as the most secure

ChyrenB, it sounds to me like you've got some kind of virus or adware that inserts links into stuff you're seeing in your browser. I would guess that it's associated directly with a plugin you're using in Firefox. I would do the following: 1. Run a scan for viruses and adware on your laptop. 2. Try a different browser like Chrome or (*shudder*) Internet Explorer. 3. If you have any t

There were some issues on the main Phins.com server this afternoon that were slowing down everything. I've cleaned up those problems and service should be back to normal. Sorry for the problems. Curt

Not having the Ads increases privacy and safety(as you don't have to deal with tracking cookies, adware and possible viruses) and also makes the page load faster. I've been doing some speed testing and tweaking of Phins.com and the thin

In an effort to prevent spammers from joining the list and posting spam messages before being banned, I've turned on moderating of new users. From now on, when a person registers for a new account, I get a message asking me to approve or disapprove them. That allows me to run a cursory check on them to see if they're a real fan or just a spammer. Right now, new user requests are only run

I ban them as soon as I see them, but new spammers will register and post one spam message before I can get to them.

I'm closing this topic: It's misogynistic, pointless and disrespectful of Tannehill, his wife and the team. Criticizing a player for poor play is one thing - even criticizing his personal behavior when he does something bad off the field is ok with me - but attacking his wife (who has done nothing deserving of this kind of abuse, so far as I know) is disgusting. Don't we get enough of this
