It all depends on how you want to run the 4-3. Some teams will use one DT as a 2-gap player. But, the whole point of the 4-3 is to use one-gap players. 2-gap players are hard to find. It's why 3-4 NTs are so valuable. That's part of the advantage in going to a 4-3, because you only need one-gap DTs, and they are easier to find. It's fine to talk about the technical stuff, but it's really this

That is the point about Soliai not necessarily fitting. A 4-3 defense doesn't require anyone to be a two-gap player. It depends how it's implemented, but for the most part, a 4-3 uses one gap techniques up front. If Odrick moves inside, they would have about $19M committed to 3 defensive tackles. And Soliai is not under contract for 2014. Unless he signs an extension that lowers his cap number

Yesterday sent a clear message. In some of my recent posts, I had mentioned that fans had to be ready for good players being let go, because they don't fit the schemes of the new coaching staff. The Philbin/Sherman/Coyle systems are really different than what Parcells believed in. And there are a number of players on the roster that may not fit those systems, even though they are good players. It

But, the pass blocking grade for Cook is almost irrelevant because he

Wheeler graded out better than Burnett in pass coverage and in rushing the passer. Wheeler had twice as many QB disruptions as Burnett did. Wheeler earned a +5.1 grade in coverage, compared to +1.6 for Burnett.

Ellerbe was the 3rd best pass rusher among ILB/MLB. Dansby was 35th. Wheeler was the 5th best 4-3 OLB in pass coverage. Burnett was 13th.

No more trading down. There is no need to. We have 4 picks in the 2nd and 3rd rounds. Why give up the #12 overall pick? How has trading down worked out for us in the past?

Looking at the contract situations coming up, I think LB is going to be a key position for us in the draft, unless Kaddu or the CFL guy turn out to be studs. Dansby counts $11.5M against the cap in 2014, or could be cut to save $9.2M. He's as good as gone. Burnett is due to count $7M against the cap in 2014. That seems like a bargain compared to Dansby, but you'd think he's a candidate to be cut,

In the past couple of days, they've released Michael Jenkins and traded Percy Harvin. Those were their 2 leading WRs in 2012. I have to believe

Hartline wasn't a good red zone threat with Henne or Moore at QB, either. In fairness, though, some of that was the nonsensical use of the wildcat on first and second down, followed by a forced pass to Brandon Marshall on 3rd down. In 2012, Hartline drew the focus of the defense in the redzone. And he's not good enough for when that happens. Part of his game is his sneaky speed, and ability to

I think $8-9M for Jennings, and $6-7M for Cook. We'll see. There's something about all this talk about Wallace that just doesn't seem right. I have serious doubts. Just like all the Matt Flynn talk lsst year.

The more buzz about Wallace being a done deal makes me think it's all a smokescreen. Either he is using Miami to drive up his market, or Miami is leaking it to divert attention from what the real plan is, or to lower Jennings' demands. Here's a question, are they better with $12M spent on Wallace, or $14-15M spent on Jennings and Cook?

That's less than $2M than it would cost to keep him. The scale tips

Not 5 years. Not unless most of the guaranteed money is upfront and we could release him 2 years into the deal. He's been too injury prone to warrant a 5 year deal. 3 years, $20M, with $10-12M guaranteed.

There are a lot of decent options at CB. A couple guys may get bigger contracts early, but that's a position that will yield a lot of bargains. Sign one of them, and draft two.
