Yeah, I'm still sad to see him go. I used to play fantasy football and the other guys ribbed me when I drafted Channing as a rookie. They said, "Hey, who's that guy you got? Clam Chowder?"

now he can keep that radio show. I think he'll do well. He always was entertaining to listen to, and he's much more likable than most of the idiots on sports talk radio.

Good luck with the new career Channing!

He never had any heart . That was his problem. This retirement after his first rejection proves it.

I think you have it backwards....

I think he had plenty of heart, he wore it on his sleeve with brash talk to Ryan and plenty others.

His problem was, he just wasnt that good. He was a below average NFL player.

Yes, Crowder had a big heart...and an even bigger mouth. I wouldn't say he was below average. At WILB I think he was above average, but not Pro-Bowl material. As a SILB he WAS below average. I really think he fit better as an WOLB in a 4-3, though.

Crowder's main issue was injuries. A LB that can't stay on the field consistently can actually hurt your team more than he helps. You need continuity with your ILBs. In a 4-3, the MLB is the QB of your defense. In a 3-4, the 2 ILBs need to be familiar and comfortable with each other. Disrupt the continuity and you risk throwing off the entire defense.

Crowder and Carey were two of the most solid and steady players on the roster. Both were solid but not exceptional I really hope Crowder's replacement is as steady if not we will miss crowder. The same goes for Colombo at RT.

At the end of the day Crowder is smart and his choice and loyalty was the right move. He didn't want to be a journeyman, being a man with no home is not a good position. His dad was a dolphin and so is he... If he left for New England, buffalo or Philly , his career after football would be much tougher... now he already has a job amd what's left of his health.. A new wife and child on the way...
But at the end of the day the real reason I'd he heard I was changing my screen name if signed with someone else and that was just to much for him to bear, so I agreed to keep his name and he agreed to only play as a dolphin or retire!

Crowder was above average and was fighting knee injuries since college. He was a plugger and did well in that role. Its also why he wore down so quick.

He was among league leaders in tackles year after year.

One thing is evident. When you have to fight a particular injury it usually leads to other injuries that snowball bc of overcompensating etc...

I have nothing bad to say about him. He did his job and fended off everyone they brought in to replace him. He was not a play maker but that doesn't make him below average.

Good luck to him.

Fortunately we now have improved with his replacement IMHO.

Mizzou,

Crowder was not "solid". Not in my book, anyways. The guy was below average and has been the weak spot of our defense for years now.

You are crazy A&O... You sure have selective memory... Crowder owned the run when he played with the dolphins... The man had 100 tackles in a single season.. I think you need to go back and watch some tape to get your facts straight about the man.. Cause you are having serious dillusional recollection syndrome...lol

He never had more than 100 tackles. His most was in '08 with 92.

He had 92 tackles in '08 and all other years never had more than 61.

Thats absolutely effin pathetic for a LB.

He had 92 *solo* tackles in 2008. If you include assists as half-tackles (which stats-enthusiasts are known to do), then he had 113 that year, and 103 in 2006. In 2009 and 2010 his production dropped significantly.

In his prime he was slightly better than average. But the past two years he just hasn't cut the mustard.

Retirement at 27? No major injuries to speak of? Think he would have quit if the Dolphins kept him? Sorry, Zack Thomas was not Physically the right size for the Job. he was very undersized. But the man had HEART. Channing always lacked it IMO. Hope he invested well or he will be just another broke statisic in 10 yrs at the ripe old age of 37.

His stats are not bad for a 3-4 lb and the year he had 61 tackles he played 11 games and had 78 total tackles. Plus they pulled him out in passing situations a lot.

Crowder had more then 100 tackles twice in his career.
If Crowder was as below avg as you try and say, he surely would not have survived from Saban, To Cam, To Parcells... WHile so many others were sent packing... The below avg guys are the ones that didnt make the cut... YB, Ronnie, Ricky, Crowder, made those cuts, they did it becasue they were good football players, and beat out the avg guy... Now it is just YB..... I am sure you think YB is just avg as well.... Quit hating, this site should be called phinshaters.com, not phins.com, sometimes you guys are just ridiculous....

I can tell you one thing, speaking of below-average type of stuff.

This site is, relatively speaking, VERY LOW on the 'hate' scale, if my occasional visits to other message boards are any indication.

There will always be some disagreement that leads to interpretation (justified or not) as hatred. But we are very lucky have a good group of contributors here who can get along well (as well as can be expected on a sports message board).

As for reference guys- Neither, Karlos Dansby nor Kevin Burnett has ever had 100 solo tackles in a year during their entire carreer. SO I guess they are all below avg A&O?

Also what another team does is to strategize AWAY from a good player.

Unlike in the case of offensive backfield where if the player is not getting enough touchs and that might be an indication of lack of confidence in him, a defensive player's opportunity to be involved in plays is often dictated by the opposing team.

Translation: a lack of tackles might also indicate a lack of plays run at him which in turn is a testament to a belief in how good, not bad, a player he is.

And what about his injuries PF2? Does that figure into the end of his career? And are you saying that EVERY running play must involve the middle linebacker?

I'm not saying he should go into the Hall of Fame but I don't think he sucked either. And that's what you're saying. No, he wasn't a Zach Thomas. How many NFL players were or are?
