ultimately, the lawyers work for the players, and have to do what they are told. so they cannot hijack the process if its not what the client (players) wants. Don't worry, a deal will be done, very soon

I hear ya PF2,and understand in principle what you are saying as well Berk.
But at the end of the day, their really are at least three or four sides to this 2 part conflict. i know that sounds funny but here is the explanation.
There is the 1)Players side 2) Owners side 3)The lawyers side 4) The fans side

The lawyers benefit the most by the legal football continuing for obvious reason. They have 2 of the wealthiest business institutions in the world fighting each other and by paying them to do it. In my past experience some lawyers like to create problems, just so they are paid to solve the very problems they created... Whether they admit it to their clients neither sides legal team wants this to end, which is why I put all the lawyers on the same side in reality. And it is is also the sides that the hardliners in each group are own. THe hardliners, and lawyers want legal football. THe fans, most players and owenrs want football. Hoepfully ultimatelt the majorities force the vote and move forward. Cause I think both sides has the votes to close the deal, just not handle the internal backlash from it at this point.

From my understanding at this point, these lawsuits created a problem and empowered certain players who are named in the lawsuit. SO iguess that can prevent the vote on the players side. For instance, if Brady, Manning and Brees refuse to drop the antitrust lawsuit, I dont think either side can close a deal...
Berk- I need some insight, can these players specific lawsuits, stop the process of a NEW cba if they refuse to sign off on the deal. Did the players over empower these players with their named suits.. Could other players come out who dont like the CBA deal, create another lawsuit to prevent a deal?

as a practical matter, brady, manning, etc (the named plaintiffs) are not going to hijack the entire nfl by refusing to dismiss their lawsuit because they personally don't like the new CBA. They would be hated by the fans and league and other players till the end of time if that happened, and it's just not going to.

this lawsuit and the CBA are intextricably linked---the whole lawsuit proceeds from the premise that what the league is doing is illegal *because* they are not dealing with a union. by definition a CBA is a deal between a union and employer so if there was a CBA there could be no suit. so everything (CBA and dismissal of lawsuit) will have to happen together.

I am not too concerned about any of this. Like I've been saying all along, we will have a deal in a matter of weeks, if not sooner.

I agree, I think we already have a deal actually, the process that is going on is trying to sell it to the parties, like they still have a say, when in reality, the votes are their and it is a done deal. However the people who will lose the most from the players side are many of those named in the antitrust lawsuit. If they have seperate power outside the basic vote of the NFLPA, then that is a bit bad and goes outside the deciding majorities, which is how I understood it.

Why are you guys torturing yourselves? We will have a deal when he have one. No sense in writing a new thread every 6 hours claiming to know something new so when it finally gets done you can exclaim.........I told you all so!

We never had a chance in hell anyway. And everyday the Pats & the Jets don't practice is better for all of us.

If Tony had any self respect he would have told Mr Ross to go %**!! himself after trying to hire someone before firing him.

See Berkley!! Plenty to discuss!!

He probably had his agent look around, and find nothing better than what he could get by swallowing his pride *and* homemade red sauce and staying in Miami.

COme on now Treasure,
Tony is a first time Head Coach, it is one of the hardest and most coveted positions in professional coaching. Why in the world would he make mistake like telling the owner off... If he did that he'd probably never be headcoach again. Instead he looked like a guy, owners could trust, even when they themselves might not deserve it. Sparano, has his fault and made his mistakes, but you have to give it to him, he has been through alot and never lost his cool publicly. THis year is the big one for him...
I just hope the team is still behind him... And the whole issues that Ricky brought up he has or is planning on addressing with his team.

I do as well. I hope he works out because at this rate NO ONE wants to work for Mr Ross. No winners anyway. Which is why he is still here.

if they wait too long, the 8th cir is going to rule against them and they will have no anti-trust case to speak of
