My conclusion is that 14 teams found a way to draft a QB out of the first rd and get to the superbowl.

And 19 teams were able to do it with first rd draft choices at QB.

14 to 19

That is hardly overwhelming evidence IMO.

I would rather have a 1st rd QB in the draft, and like the idea, we have not done it in ages, and still have an unknown at Qb for ages.
So i am not against it, but it is a risk and hardly a science. and gives you a slightly better chance to get to the superbowl based on straight up circumstances. Meaning do 1st rd picks get more shots to start and or more time at the position. Are they given better nurturing, and spend more time to base offenses around. There are lots of factors that could skew the results, and the conclusions you are drawing. I agree there is an advantage to drafting just about any position in the 1st rd, as opposed to other rds.

He collects dissability, or some type of check from either workman's comp, state, government.

LOL. Exactly! Gruden is my favorite new announcer. I really hope he stays in broadcasting. But as a coach, HE sucked with the Radiers and was handed a all ready put together team by Coach Dungy. He's no draft expert because he won 1 Bowl.

Holgrem got really lucky that the 3rd stringer he robbed from Atlanta turned out to be one of the best OB's of all time. How many 3rd stringers did Miami chase?

You need to take a chance at this point after a 35+ year drought of a championship. Picking another Pat White might do it, but They need a QB this draft. Nuff said.

McElroy take him in the 5th, and let's be the next "Brady" storie for years 2011-2024.

McElroy will be a Lawyer in about 5 years, not an NFL player.

We are talking about CHampionships or getting to the championships.
Lots of Franchise Qb's never get you a superbowl ring.
I want a ring, not a franchise Qb.
Marino never got a ring but he was one of the greatest franchise QB's of all time.
Peyton Manning is one of the greatest Franchise Qb's of all time been in the league what 13 years. How many rings does he have, 1.
As I said, my desire and want is a Superbowl Win, more then a franchise QB. If we happen to get both even better!

I agree, its been a while since I felt we had a realistic shot. After our 11-5 opening season with Pennington, I had hope... Last year before Henne and our Oline fell apart I had hope...lol, or crying not sure..

Let me ask you this Phinfans,
If we dont take a Qb in the first but are able to select Ryan Mallett, in the second or even third.
Are you going to be upset because we didnt take a Qb in the first?
Does Malletts chances of success go down based on where we pick him?

I want Newton, on the team and would like to trade up to do it if neccessary. But I am no expert on Qb's, guys with alot more knowledge then me, fall on their face when predicicting QB's success.
My pick would be Newton, if not I would roll the dice on Mallett or Dalton, if they fell. If not focus on oline and TE's, even Leshoure.
If we get a stud olinemen, a good TE, and a Rb like Leshoure or Ingrahm. in later rds, pick up a safety and a olb and or a mlb
