REPOST

Luckily the draft is heavy on those positions as is free agency. My 2 cents:

We will likely be youngest team in the NFL this year btw after todays releases. Only 3 players 30 or older, 4 woith Pennington.

FS - Ryan Clark - Berry wont be there that late in round 1. There are also some solid players in the 2,3,4 round of draft for here

NT - I'm thinking Tank Johnson who has yet to be resigned or draft Dan Williams/Next best NT in round 2 aside from Cody unless big time weight clause in contract

WOLB - Putting it all on Wake. Love the guy

SOLB - Kindle/Sapp one or the other in Round 1

WR - Put everything else on hold is Bryant falls to number 12. Otherwise Antonio Bryant and possible one year deal to Mason as short term help. Good 3,4 rnd talent here too. Wouldnt give up picks for this position.

TE - We need help here too. If we can barter for Olsen cheap go for it but I doubt it. Fasano should be back as RFA. Maybe Jimmy Graham if he falls to a later round. Guy has huuuge upside.

I would love to have Ryan Clark and Ben Watson. fasano was deadly when he had Martin running down the seams and I think Watson can provide some of that. Ryan Clark is one of the better young FS in the game IMO, that would allow Bell to move back to his natural strong safety spot. clark is a thumper we haven't had one since Loius Oliver.

Bell to move back to SS???? huh?

Bell is the thumper already. We need a guy with speed to compliment him and shut down center field.

Come on guys, how can we keep sweeping over our obvious problems at WR. We just got Dansby as a leader and amazing replacement to our obvious hole at LB, but come one we need to get our #1. It's been to long since we've actually tried to make a move. I'm not saying we trade our first rounder for marshall or draft Dez Bryant, but come one we need to make this a priority. Antonio Bryant is not gonna solve our problem, we need someone who can lead our WR core, especially now that we have a gunslinger (Henne) leading the team. Ideas (besides the few I suggested so enticingly)?

I've been saying all along, we are not 1 WR away from having a feared passing attack. We need at least 2 new guys. Bess led our team in catches, but he's very, very slow, and rarely gets much separation. And that's why they use him primarily on underneath routes, often matched up with linebackers, nickel backs, or safeties. And he's not able to get yards after the catch. He's not a starting caliber player. Camarillo has great hands, but is also slow. Personally, I think he's a better player than Bess. He has been forced into being the starting flanker, and has done a good job for someone with his limited ability. I think that if he lined up in the slot, he'd outproduce Bess because he is faster and has better hands. Brian Hartline has potential. But, he's also limited by his speed (4.55). He showed last year that he has some ability to get behind a defense, but his speed allows him to be caught from behind. He may be a guy who can grow into a #2 role, but his ceiling may also be that of a #3 guy. I don't think Ted Ginn will be on the team. I think he'll be traded for a draft pick. I think his lack of toughness drives this regime crazy.

So, what do we do? I think we are in desperate need of a veteran at WR. I think our young guys would benefit greatly from having a veteran teach them what he's learned over the years. They have not had that at all in Miami. I also think Henne would benefit greatly from having a veteran WR to lean on. Remember how Marino said having Nat Moore in the huddle was like having an assistant coach in the huddle with him?

You know who I would sign to address this need? Derrick Mason. Yes, I know he's 36. And I believe the team needs to be built around youth. But, I think WR is a spot where we are screaming for a veteran because of what a veteran could do for Henne and our young wideouts. Mason had 73 catches for 1028 yards and 7 TD in 2009, at age 35. And he did that in an offense with a somewhat inconsistent young QB at the helm, and in spite of being the primary focus of the passing game. Yes, when you play the Ravens, Mason has been the one guy among their WR that you don't want to let beat you. And he's had three 1000 yard seasons in a row, including one year when playing primarily with Kyle Boller as a QB. Mason can still play.

So, here's the plan. We sign Mason to a 2 year deal. We draft someone in rounds 2 or 3. Maybe Damian Williams, or Golden Tate, or Demaryius Thomas, or Arrellius Benn. And then maybe we draft another guy in round 6 that we can stash on the practice squad or use as a kick return specialist. And we move Pat White to WR. Now, we'll have to get rid of one of Bess or Camarillo, because their skills are similar and they have too limited an upside. Mayeb someone would trade us a pick for Bess? This give you a couple of years to develop this year's rookie while Mason is still around.

Derrick Mason
Brian Hartline
Damian Willaims/Arrellius Benn/Golden Tate/Demaryius Thomas
Greg Camarillo/Davone Bess
Patrick Turner/Pat White
Late round rookie/return specialist

I think that's a group of WR that could help Chad Henne.

I doubt Golden Tate will be there with our pick in Rd 2.

If he is its an easy slection to make.

The Raven have brought in Donte Stallworth and Anquan Boldin. Word is that Mason wants to return.

I don't know that we could entice him to come to Miami with the chance for success in Baltimore with that group of WR's. They will be a legitimate contender....although he retired last year and still may be contemplating it. The weather in Miami would be enticing for 36 year old bones.

I doubt Tate will be there @ 43 as well.

Demaryius Thomas MAY be available. He has a 4-6 week recovery time and then another couple weeks to get ready to run the 40. He won't be ready to workout at Georgia Tech's pro day on March 15th.

In all likelihood he won't run until about a week before the NFL draft on April 22nd. If he runs a sub 4.5, he may be gone as well.

We could lose out on Bryant, Thomas, Tate and Benn. At that point I don't like the options at WR @43. Too many good LB'ers available.

Could Spikes be the heir apparent to Crowder?

I don't have a problem with Crowder. He had a hell of a year two years ago and was rated as a the 3rd ranked 3-4 ILB in 2008. I just don't think he should be the center piece of our offense.

He will be great next to Dansby in Ayodele's former spot. I would look for the big plays to come for Crowder now that KD is taking some pressure off of him.

Currently I am viewing McClain and Spikes as two down thumpers. We have Dansby as our thumper now except he will play all three downs.

Crowder is a 4.68 guy that also ran a 4.22 short shuttle so he is probably faster and quicker than both McC and Spikes.

Besides we have greater needs right now that can be filled in the draft. We are fine with CC.

All good points about Crowder. He also signed a new contract last year, so, yes, I too would like to see what he can do at WILB. I think we're smart in giving ourselves some options at #12. After signing Dansby I don't think we're desperate at any position. Our needs look like this:

1. FS
2. WR
3. SOLB
4. TE

I'm not counting out McClain either. Someone always falls, but we could end up taking the best player available (excluding QB or Rcool smiley.

Sparano loves Crowder according to Darlington and Omar. He loves his style of play and intensity.

The only thing wrong with CC is that he is not Zach Thomas and never will be. Or Offerdahl or Duhe...and that he can't stay healthy. He will be terrific next to KD.

Needs...besides Jason Taylor...

1 NT
2 WR
3 OLB
4 FS

No Trading Up maybe Down to pick up more picks

Re: OFF SEASON CHECK LIST

To move up to #3 it would take a lot of picks. Probably a 2nd this year and a 2nd next year at least.

And next yers draft you HOPE there is a rookie wage scale, so those picks you don't want to move if you don't have too.

Plus by trading to #3 it costs you a lot of money to sign guys. And you will get a hold-out until the #2 and/or #4 overall guys sign. And that will drive Parcells nuts having a guy miss the first 3 or 4 weeks of training camp. Even if a player WANTS to sign, he can't his agent and other agents won't let him due to how the process works. It's just a mess picking that high. At 12 you really don't have those issues.

If we could move down to around #20.....get the 2nd best WR or a Nose Tackle, I would be happy. Maybe add a 2nd or 3rd round pick this year. Because at 12 we don't need McCalin now. Dez won't be there. Slide down, take Golden Tate. Or take Dan Williams or another NT. I would be happy. Finding someone to trade up, that's a different story
