Just read an article on brownsnation entitled what went wrong for Bill Belichick in Cleveland. Though not a perfect 1:1 match on all details, it seems his firing had a number of similar elements:
- abrasive with assistants
- friction with QB (though Kosar had taken CLE to the AFC championship 3x before Bill arrived, so certainly different that way)
- known for having an incredibly high football IQ (LT said about Bill: The one thing I can say about Belichick is on Sunday afternoon you want to be sitting right beside him. Any other day, you don’t want to be near him. But on Sunday afternoon, you want to be beside him because he knows what he’s doing)
- an owner who had a rep for being fickle with head coaches (or at least told Bill he'd move to Baltimore with the team, then went back on it)

Certainly not claiming Flores is or will become Belichick at his next gig...but i also acknowledge that many of the most successful HC's in the history of the game had very similar characteristics of being strong-headed, difficult, my-way-or-the-highway, high expectations.

I agree with most of what is being said about his personality and that's probably why he got fired. TStamper great post above this one.

As to Tua got hurt and we lost 4 games because of that.... He is always hurt, and Flores knew that and wanted Herbert...Taking a chance on a fragile QB was a stupid decision!!!!!!!!!!!!!

WOW...I disappear for a couple of days and see the *blank* hit the fan.

Grier should have been given the boot as well. Passing on Justin Herbert for a noodle arm and injury riddled Tua was INEXCUSABLE and the scouting staff for this team is horrible, year after year. Only a few good picks out of so many that we've had.

This team had some substandard assistant coaching for sure, and this experiment of hiring first time coaches hasn't worked. This franchise has been a failure for years and it's sickening to be a fan of such a dysfunctional organization.

OK. This could be just leaks to help booster Ross's decision BUT supposedly TUA backed all of it up and there were witnesses.

Coach Flores led the charge for TUA getting tested for PED's 4 times due to his comeback from hip surgery being so dramatic.

TUA was seen having direct verbal confrontations with Flores the week of the Saints game AND after the Titans game told him " you cant treat people like that!!"

Supposedly Flores was on a witch hunt and wanted to trade TUA all season. Ross wants to give TUA a fair shake at being successful without having a coach sabotaging him ......and he still had a decent season.

Interesting.......

SIGH. I hear you. But it's just a few days into the off season. I'm going to wait and see what else occurs. So e tweets from TUA today looked Very Optimistic. Players are not complaining that Flores is gone. Not yet anyway. I find that very surprising and interesting.

sorry but not one leak in 3 years about all this disfunction? This is yet another hit job by the yes man Grier.

I hope Flores goes to the bears and succeeds. Wherever he goes will be my 2nd team. I'd love it if he trades for Tua wherever he ends up.

Ross is a clown. Grier is a corporate suck up. This team is a rudderless ship.

I'll always be a phin fan at heart but these boobs make it easier to find alternatives for my Sundays.

If Ross wanted to do something right, he's make the throwbacks permanent. I read that the pats are going old school next year. I think that is awesome.

So now we finally find out the real reason for his firing. He would not play ball with Ross. If the owner asks you to do something and you don't want to do it, I can respect that. But you have to know you are going to be let go.

I also never thought he would play the race card. Didn't see it in him. Discriminatory practices? I am not gonna get started with that.

Every place has weird hiring rules. I work for the state and we have to open jobs up to the public and have three interviews for every job. Even if they know who is going to get it because they already work in the company.

He got fired because he was not a "yes man" plain and simple, nothing else.

Ugly off season for the Phins, how can they focus on football with this crap over their heads? I was at first kind of dismissive of Flores' lawsuit but sounds like he has a case.

For the Phins its the tanking for a 100 grand per loss (that's a cheap price to ask for selling out your team). For the Giants he got a text from Bellicheat intended for Daboll congratulating Daboll as the new HC prior to Flores' interview. So his interview was a sham. He should be p*ssed, even if I don't like him I think he is right.

If he was asked to sell out the Phins by losing game, they should nail Ross. If crap like this is going on w/ owners I can see why some teams are perennial losers (DET,WA,NYJ and MIA)

I do not disagree with you that a lot of the interviews are sham interviews. Do you think if Harbaugh wanted to be the coach of Miami and Ross new that that the other 4 interviews would be anything but a sham. This happens in every walk of life, at most jobs.

Should the nail Ross yes, force him to sell, don't take draft picks or anything like that, because essentially he asked and nothing became of it so Ross is the bad guy not the team

As for the case.... even if he proves all of this anyone can fire someone or hire someone and they don't have to provide a reason. I see this as a case that will be won in public opinion and Flores will get money from the NFL but what good will it do in the long run? It won't change the NFL. Billionaires usually get their way, we don;t change that.

One of the strongest narratives related to our desert wandering has been that Ross' meddling in operations is a significant net-negative. If this leads to him selling to someone who can hire the right folks to deliver culture & results, then it may be for the best. My understanding is that there's already a succession plan in place, but I don't know anything about it.

This news about Ross is huge. No prospective HC in their right mind would want to be the HC for the Miami Dolphins, maybe someone who wants to move up from Pop Warner Pee Wee football is about it. This is going to be a real ugly off season for sure. It won't be easy for Flores to prove his accusations, but it opens up a can of worms nonetheless. In a way I'm really not surprised, I've had a bad vibe about Ross for years.

What Ross did was wrong but not racist. And the "sham" interview Flores is referring to was after the Giants had already interviewed 2 minorities so it wasn't necessary to satisfy the rooney rule.

Maybe they wanted a 2nd interview before they made their decision.

This franchise is a clown show and will be until Ross sells.

No one is calling Ross a racist, if anything the accusations against him are more severe. Good point regarding Giants already having satisfied the Rooney rule.

Most everybody has a call recording app on their phones so, there may be records of conversations.
My guess is that after the 0-7 start, when Flores started winning some games is when the 100,000.00 offer came into play.
Some might argue that Ross wanted Burrow, which would be good for the team so, what's the big deal but, Ross was, for all practical purposes, asking Flores to sacrifice his career for a payday.
It sucks, this is not the Dolphins that I've been following for over 50 years, not the Dolphins of Shula, Csonka, Warfield, the perfect season. I wonder about Marino and why he remains so quiet behind the scenes. Seems to be nothing more than an NFL pedigree lap dog yes man. Just happy to be able to go to all the games and cash a check.

SIGH. We all deal with so much shit on a daily basis....football is supposed to be an escape from all that. The last couple of yrs people with agendas have just ruined the sport.

As far as the Giants and the Rooney rule goes its going to be hard to prove. It states a minority has to be Interviewed, not hired. I believe he was Interviewed.

Funny.....Belichik is in the middle of it all. When ever somebody doesn't get there way......Texts surface.

As far as Our team.....and really all I care about , these are huge Bombshell accusations. Something Ross and the Dolphins have already vehemently denied. I hope Flores has proof because Flores is now done in the NFL. No one would hire him.

All I wanted was this defense to stick together. I really enjoyed football again for a few weeks there this season.I wonder if Flores is just sabatoging this team for being fired.

But if it's True? Damn. Damn Ross to hell. This is not the off season I envisioned. I wanted to keep the defense together, improve the Oline. Discuss the draft.

I hate this shit. Damn it. angry smiley

I was thinking about this before. True or not Flores is a POS. A mega Piece.

True: He took the money and was quiet as long as he had a job. Just as bad.

False : Hes a selfish prick trying to sabatoge a team that saw him for what he is.

I'm not sure what you mean by, "He took the money." He was being paid to win games and that's what he was doing, trying to win games in spite of the fact that the front office was trying to sabotage the season. If you're suggesting that he took the 100,000 bribe then I would suggest that you're wrong, that's what he was being fired for, refusing to lose games on purpose.
I see Flores as the only one standing on high ground.

Re: Flores Fired

He took the money meaning he was being paid his salary. No complaints, no press conferences, nothing until he was fired and wasn't getting paid. Then all this comes out. And Belichik is caught up in it.

That if any of its true , and he has yet to show anything credible to back his claims.

We have at least 1 Team member , TUA, who will back claims of inappropriate behavior, bullying by Flores. Other team members must have saw it.

NO one cared IF he won a game the first season..... we had dumped our best players and were in rebuild mode. Flores started winning games and Ross wanted him to loose to get Burrow. He refused. Reports say he also refused to meet some QB at a marina. Flores refused to play ball with the owner. That and the seven game loosing streak, in a year we were supposed to do something sealed his fate and got him fired. Nothing else. I actually think he was a good coach, but we live in a time that everyone blames someone else for their problems. I hope Flores can live with the sword he just fell on.

Is all of what is being alleged possible? It sure is. Are the allegations difficult to prove--probably. Will this get to court and be tried? Probably. Will the Dolphins be a better team this coming 2022 season? Probably not. Will this scandalous black eye make it more difficult to land a competent HC that can hire good assistants? I think everyone knows that one--YES. Will loyal Dolphins fans be crying in our beers again? Absolutely, positively YES!

IMO, no one in their right mind except a masochist will take this HC job now.

We, the fans, are in for another whirlwind drama. This is one lousy franchise.

The speculation is that the QB at the marina was Brady and it was while he was still with the Patriots which is "tampering" which is illegal in the NFL. Also, throwing a game, losing on purpose is illegal in a league aligned with sportsbook legal gambling so, Ross was asking Flores to do certain things which were illegal and Flores refused to play along. Who's the bad guy?
Flores's background is that of an underprivileged black man who worked hard to advance himself in a sport that he loved and he made it to the top winning several Superbowl rings along the way. In fact, Ross was asking him to throw that all away, using him as a stooge to Tank for Tua/Burrow to be later discarded like an old newspaper. TreasureCoast wants to know why he didn't bring this to light earlier? Well, as long as he wasn't accepting the bribes and just doing his job, and not tampering with other team's QBs, there were no crimes being committed. It was a case of damned if you do and damned if you don't. He was not personally affected until he was fired and trying to get back into the league.

I disagree with him throwing his career away with a bad first season. He was given a 5 year contract instead of a 4 year one because everyone knew the Dolphins would stink in his first year.

I did not like Flores as coach but I like Flores the man. You screwed me over twice but now its my turn. Guys who make decisions like this have already tallied up the cost and have the guts to live with the consequences.

Now its his ethics vs Ross' pockets in court.

Maybe our grandkids will be proud Phin fans after all of this, right now it sucks.

Guys. FLORES was on the Pats for how many yrs? Stop making him out to be a boy scout. Belichik is caught up in all of this. I wouldn't be surprised if Kraft didn't help set Ross up.

Not taking sides yet....but let's keep an open mind both ways?

No matter how this shakes out colonel is right.. this impacts our team negatively is a huge way.

2 sides to every story:

“With regards to the allegations being made by Brian Flores, I am a man of honor and integrity and cannot let them stand without responding,” Ross said. “I take great personal exception to these malicious attacks, and the truth must be known. His allegations are false, malicious and defamatory. We understand there are media reports stating that the NFL intends to investigate his claims, and we will cooperate fully. I welcome that investigation and I am eager to defend my personal integrity, and the integrity and values of the entire Miami Dolphins organization, from these baseless, unfair and disparaging claims.”

Keep an open mind , but no doubt , this hurts Miami and I believe that was the intent. NOT JUSTICE like Flores claims.

LOL Ross sounds just like a politician in today's society.
And yes, this sure does hurt Miami and will until Ross sells this team and steps aside.

In other news, Harbaugh is going to stay at Michigan.
He definitely wasn't stupid enough to take on the HC job in Miami and I knew it. About the only option this franchise will have for a new HC will be to hire the waterboy.

I'll probably be dead and gone before this team turns into a contender. jsm08 is right, the two boobs Ross and Grier make it easier to to find alternative teams to cheer for.

Say what you want about Ross , he's alot of things. Definitely not football smart......but he never came off to me as someone who would openly solicit illegal activity like losing. He appears to be almost Niave but not intentionally a bad person or a wheeler dealer.like say....Jerry Jones. That's someone I could see breaking rules to get what he wants.

Where Flores really Fed up is he roped John Elway into it. That guy is pretty respected and has a great reputation. Flores might have bit off more then he can chew.

Here in the boston area there is a rumor flying around that if
Ross is forced to sell the team as a result of the legal issues then Tom Brady is poised to buy the dolphins. One version goes so far as to imply that this is part of the reason why Brady retired—so that he could buy the dolphins.

Of course, this rumor is being fomented by a bunch of guys who wear Patriots sweats every day, drink extra large Dunkin’ Donuts iced coffee year round with 20 creams and 10 Splendas in it , listen & call in to sports talk shows daily with their funny sounding boston accents. They are hoping it to be true Because that will give them an excuse to root for the Phins from their winter/retirement condos in Florida.
