Dolphins v. Raiders: Game Day Thread
Posted by: colonel ()

Tomorrow, the Dolphins face a tough Raiders team. Brissett, in for Tua, will face multiple threats from defensive linemen, LBs and corners. Our o-line has to grow up and play strong and smart or the Dolphins will face another long afternoon. The Dolphins can't risk another QB injury.

I have my fingers crossed for the best (optimism high) but reality will be on the field against a Raiders team on the rise.

Be interesting to see how the team responds to last week's embarrassment.
I always had it in the back of my head that TUA didn't have what it takes. But I thought our defense was better then last week showed.

Good news is.......New TV arrived. thumbs up Hopefully I don't get to see Miami slayed in more vivid colors and QLED technology .

GO DOLPHINS!!!!

TC, I have the same tv. I can guarantee that it doesn't make the plays any better. LOL.

It's a late game so I'll be busy doing other things until the game starts. I sure hope the team can avoid another blow out. Heaven only knows how disgusted we fans are with this constant need to rebuild or re-tool to try and become competitive.

The defense has tired. No apparent offense--it doesn't look good now that the Raiders are a head by 5. sad smiley

Pathetic time for changes. Could have won that one. No offense 3/4's of Tunsil trades first and 2nds are busts! Holland and Waddle the only difference makers and we can't gameplan to take advantage of waddles skills?

Kept Wilson and Grant and they are useless undersized WR

GM has to go may need OC changes Flores buds not cutting it.

Would have won in regulation without the safety. Play caller should be fired

The way things were going with a few minutes left, I was ready to write this one off. Then, surprisingly, the Dolphins tied the game. Wow, I thought.

In OT, the Raiders won the toss and put the Dolphins D back on the field. That was a smart move on their part. They got a FG and the Dolphins came through and matched them. The D was exhausted and it showed as the Raiders moved down the field and the kicker popped another FG to win the game, 31-28.

Very disappointed we lost (again) but I was happy to see more grit, better consistency and heart by the Dolphins.

I couldn't get to the website yesterday due to ad blockers on my son's desktop.

This team is once again in the realm of mediocrity so I didn't miss a thing anyway. I didn't even check scores until the evening because I fully expected a loss, and I was right.

You missed the only time in recorded history of the NFL......A pass was thrown for a safety.

Pro Football Reference

The safety in the Dolphins-Raiders game is the first in our play-by-play database on a completed pass with no penalties or fumbles.

First completed play ran in the end zone!

My favorite is still Garo Yepremian's attempted pass against the Redskins that resulted in a pick 6. You youngsters don't know what you missed.

Every single one of us sitting in our chairs at home knew that was a stupid play call the moment it became obvious that's where Brissett was going to throw it. We didn't need to see that the CB played it well to know what a dumb idea it was. This is a one-play example of how the co-OC setup is going for us.

To quote Oscar on The Office in reference to Michael and Jim being named co-Regional Manager "where would Catholicism be without the Popes?"

It is clearly obvious how valuable Brady was to the Pats, but Belicheck also has had McDaniels running the offense for most of his time there, and it's been and effective and consistent part of their team's makeup. Flores has really struggled figuring out what to do on the offensive side.

Finding a good OC is hard because once you do good they make you a head coach somewhere else. That's why he picked an old timer like Chan Gailey but that didn't work out either. I remember when Jason Garret was a our QB coach. Now he's the OC for the Giants I think? People change positions all the time you just have to get lucky to find a good creative coach that can motivate and game plan. This team hasn't had a decent OC in a couple of decades.

Yeah, the McDaniels example is probably a bit unique. I'd imagine he's the crown prince of the Pats, awaiting Belicheck's exit. If true, his situation is not normal.

It would be nice to find someone who could man the position well for 3+ years before getting scooped up as the next great HC. My sense is that Flores is a great defensive mind and a good HC with a high ceiling who has overachieved thus far. The main issue has been his inability to get the right people in the right seats on the offensive side of the staff.

How about looking at the 2 OC's, find out which one OK'ed that screen and show that one the door.

Maybe, just maybe, now they'll take the running back position more seriously at the next draft. That razzle dazzle screen wouldn't have been necessary with a decent RB.
