Hook & Lateral 2 - point conversion play

I know I couldn't have been the only one to smile from ear to ear when seeing that two point conversion play.

It wasn't a textbook hook-and-lateral (NFL.com falsely calls it "hook and ladder"...tsk tsk), as this was short yardage and the textbook version was strock to Harris to Nathan in The Game. But it was great to see.

It was certainly an excellent play call. Good thing everybody reported eligible.

Yeah, there were several creative plays with reverses and multiple handoffs that went for good yardage. We haven't been using alot of trick plays (like last season) until this game.
Hopefully Chan Gailey is holding back on some surprises to get us to the play-offs and saving the really good stuff for the play-offs.

Count me as one of the ones with ear to ear grin.

I was amazed at how easy they converted that play.

Looks like our coaches are doing the good teaching on the players.

This is a young team. Hopefully they get to mature within each other for a a lot of years.

Then we get to see something special.

Soon hopefully.

(NFL.com falsely calls it "hook and ladder"...tsk tsk),

Actually it's been called the Hook and Ladder so much that it's been accepted as such by a sizeable percentage of the population as well as Hollywood. In the movie "Varsity Blues" in the final football game the play is called in from the sidelines by a finger mimicking a fish hook in the corner of the mouth followed by a simulated climbing a ladder.
So clever that even the Cheatriots would have had difficulty deciphering that one.

And I would have hardly noticed the difference myself were it not for that TV commercial from about 10 years ago (I think it was a TV commercial?) where Don Strock gets in an argument about what it is called and calls Coach Shula for the answer.

I'd post a link, but links don't currently work. Funny stuff.

I don't recall that commercial but, I'm dying to know what Shula said.
In Wikipedia it says the Hook and Lateral is a football play where a WR, usually runs a Hook route and receives the pass and laterals to another WR, (usually) running a Ladder route.

So, it's Hook and Lateral if you are describing the responsibilities of WR #1

It's Hook and Ladder if you are describing the routes being run by the 2 WRs involved in the play.

Sorry, I can't agree with that. It's Hook and Lateral. Both Strock AND Shula said so! You're not going to disagree with Coach Shula AND Don Strock, are you?

It was a commercial for Dolphins Season tickets, it turns out.

put dots in the ' link ' below where the word 'dot' is. Watch, learn, and when it's over, take a lap like Coach says grinning smiley

Well, that settles that..
The great Don Shula couldn't get Marino a decent RB or a Defense and,, couldn't pronounce the word "ladder" properly.
Actually, I never knew there was any such thing as a Ladder route until I read that in Wikipedia.

Tell us about the ground game he had.

Richmond Webb got a present from Dan Marino every season for protecting him.

All we want is chance in the plaoffs. Whatever happens next is our destiny.

I wish tua was a fraction of what dan was.

Every year in the playoffs. Every year we had a chance.

Too bad we havent been in the playoffs for a while. I will gladly take just a chance of been in the postseason. Thats all we can ask for.

Whats different about this team?

Flores yes. Tua got great potential yes.

But the trenches are working.we are completing blocks. We are pressuring QBs.Getting our offense great field position.

Its not about fancy 1st rounders. All the players making impacts were picked elsewhere in the draft. Mostly. We have to keep hitting on those hidden gems. OGBAH, Van Ginkle and Howard are my favs. Let get 3 more like them and we are going places.

GO DOLPHINS!!!!
