From "Pro Football Talk" PFT:

"The Dolphins made it official, announcing the firings of offensive coordinator Chad O’Shea, offensive line coach Dave DeGuglielmo and safeties coach Tony Oden."

I guess you can say I was a bit surprised today with this news coming off a win vs. NE.

You can read about this in the phins.com newswire link, I always take a peek there before I head over here to the forum.

Reading what Flores had to say about it makes me trust why he did this and I have to say that I believe coach Flores is a no nonsense HC. This team is going to be thriving in a couple of years, I can feel it in my bones.

Replacing O'Shea with Chan Gailey is puzzling and makes me rethink all the praise I gave Flores throughout the year.

I don't understand the Gailey replacing O'Shea

It is being discussed that the move was made to retain Schuplinski who would have been plucked by McDaniels. This move should make some here happy that we are more likely now to pick a future QB prospect, as we've just shielded the guy that they feel is more "integral to his development". It was a decision they were forced into it appears.

Sportstalk local to me (Boston Radio stations) is something I normally don't listen to, but I usually make an exception after the Phins beat the Pats--it's quite entertaining!

Their take on this personnel change is that the Dolphins are going to acquire Tom Brady and one or more of the Pats offensive coaches, and this is why Flores did what he did. I heard this on more than one station up here. Funniest thing is, they are lamenting this, instead of being glad at the thought that their 42yo QB on the decline would be shipped out of town.

Boy do I hope these jock sniffers are wrong. They usually are.

Chan Gaily and Fitz are tied at the hip. This is a shrewd move to really bolster our offense and it signals to me that we are going with Fitz for the near future.

GO DOLPHINS!!!!

I do recall Flores wanting Caldwell because of some HC experience but Caldwell's unexpected departure for health reasons changed that. He gets a Coordinator with some HC experience with Gailey as well as someone who's familiar with Fitz. With the amount of draft picks this team has there's going to be a lot of young new faces on this team and it'll take time for everyone to gel as a team. Fitz can guide this team through this total rebuild mode while a young QB waits on the bench for the team to develop around him so he doesn't get slaughtered. There were no marquee play makers for Fitz to work with. This team couldn't block, couldn't tackle, couldn't do much of anything. Fitz had to work with a bunch of backups and proved that he could. I think the hiring of Gailey was a very smart thing to do the more I think about it and having Fitz during the rebuild to keep a young QB from being thrown to the wolves is a smart thing too.

Anybody who would want Tom Brady over Fitz FOR THIS TEAM is crazy.

Tom Brady may be the GOAT when he has an offensive line like the Pats have BUT GIVE HIM THE SAME OFFENSIVE LINE THAT DID NOT ALLOW TANNEHILL TO EVEN BREATHE ONE BREATH AFTER THE BALL WAS SNAPPED AND YOU KNOW WHAT YOU GET????????????????????????

WAIT FOR IT.............

WAIT FOR IT.............

You get the same Tom Brady that was at the University of Michigan and was not drafted UNTIL THE SEVENTH ROUND!

Which of you want that?

Speak UP!!!!

100% correct ChyrenB.

Nobody here wants the "patriots" GOAT. No way on Marino's turf.

Right, Flores & Co need an OC w/ experience and Gailey has that. Gailey is not the best OC but their are a lot worese out there. Fitz likes him and has success under him. Phins are throwing a bone to Fitz for his performance this year imo.

If its true the Brady wants prove that he can be successful w/ out Belichek I think he goes to the Raiders.

I agree with chrenb . Brady would fail here.

I'd take Brady, and a brand new coachable QB prospect--with Brady as the mentor for a season.

I don't know. I think Fitz could be a good mentor. At least teach how to compete with no O-line.

TC, if none of the state lotteries EVER HAD ONE SINGLE TICKET THAT WON THEM......THEN THE STATE LOTTERIES WOULD GO BANKRUPT BECAUSE NO ONE WOULD PLAY THE LOTTERY.

However, that does not mean that it is responsible to take your paycheck and bet it all on the lottery.

If we are without an engine for our car, we need to enter the auto parts market and pick out one.

You are suggesting instead that we could get make more changes on the car if we looked into

1) upgrading the tires
2) upgrading the radio
3) upgrading the interior including the floor carpeting
4) etc.

A couple of hopefully relevant notes:
- Fitzpatrick only became a starter after 3 years in the league...then spent his next 6 years with a QB rating between 69.7 and 83.3. Around age 32, he started consistently hitting ratings between 85.5 and 100.4 (with one nice exception with the Jets ha-ha in 2016)
- even with the craziest lottery ticket in history going home after his loss to TEN, the remaining starting QBs in the playoffs were all picked outside the top 5 - anywhere from the 4th round to #8 overall (we all know who). None of them were the top QB selected in their draft...several of them are on their 2nd team.

While I kind of like the idea of "get a conviction about someone and then do whatever it takes to get him", I think that's secondary to having a culture where you're more apt to benefit from the luck that is inevitably a part of player acquisition. I'm sure Chicago wished it had "gotten a conviction" about Watson or Mahomes...I'm sure Seattle would have drafted Wilson in the 1st and risked missing out on Bruce Irvin if they knew then what they do now. My hope is that our current culture is more like that of Seattle, Baltimore, GB, KC where we can build the right team that includes a top-tier QB (wherever he's sourced) and the right kind of talent on the rest of the offense & defense.

Look at the lengths your going to to prove your point. All the while ignoring everyone elses points.....That the remaining starting QBs in the playoffs were all picked outside the top 5 .

You need to start accepting others FACTS and stop with the silly analogies. Winning the argument is not what its about here . This is a Dolphins forum and many here teach me something new everyday (most notably KEN) . So many passionate fans here that have a ton of football knowledge and make a ton of sense.

You need to start listening more brother. Thats all.

We get it. You want a QB with #5 pick. Thats your opinion and your entitled to it. But no where have you shown its the right decision despite being given so much information and history to the contrary.

GO DOLPHINS!!!!

Yeah lets talk about history.....if we kept picking qbs in first round we would of has the engine in place for a long time....brees rodgers deshaun jackson lamar jackson etc etc. Game set match.

He won't get it, Sam.

He's into blind loyalty.

Whatever the boss tells him to do, he does it.

No question about whether it's the right choice. Not even a question if it is not only not the right choice but even if it's downright stupid.
