Fins Can't Win for Losing

I love (being sarcastic here) at how after the two game win streak, sportswriters were saying how Miami was screwing itself regarding draft positioning and that it was really counter productive and after yesterday's game they're criticizing the weak roster and the toughness of the players. At least be consistent.

What I saw yesterday was in a lot of ways encouraging. Several players look like they might actually be a part of the long term plans. Needham paired with Howard next year could be a pretty nice combination of corners. Devante Parker is making me eat crow on a weekly basis. I excoriated him for being lazy, unmotivated, underachieving, and labeled him a bust. He is playing great and I can only hope he keeps it up. The most encouraging thing is that the players are really playing hard for Flores. That hasn't always been the case in Miami with past head coaches. Let's face it, Miami has been out-manned pretty much on a weekly basis and the two wins are a testament to the way that Flores has the players buying into what he's building.

Finally, let's also face the fact that we were missing two pretty vital pieces yesterday. Raekwon McMillan being out hurt our run defense badly. He is without a doubt our best run defender. On top of that, Charlton being out hurt as well. Sadly, he's our best pass rusher. When I heard they were both out, I figured it would be a long afternoon. At the same time, I thought they battled hard.

Now if we can only find a way to get Cincinnati and Washington a few wins before the end of the season.

The media is just trying to get people to read their articles. We are doing the right thing. We do have some good pieces for next year.

Where is all the national media for how bad Cincinnati, Washington or NY Giants suck. Everything is about the Dolpins...win or loose.

It all started with the "Tank for Tua" crap. Who ever started that threw us under the bus, and the national media jumped in the drivers seat and keeps backing up over us no matter what we do.

I say who cares... I believe in Flores and what he is doing!!!!!

I do hear a lot about how bad the Redskins are but I also live in the area. Maybe it is a locale thing. Redskins have many many issue. More so than our beloved Phins.

This team has flashes and they also have moments when they are just out matched. They are trending in the right direction though.

Haskins hasn't looked very good. I'm glad we passed on him. Though in fairness, their weak roster doesn't much help a rookie QB succeed. They do have a pretty good rookie wide receiver though. I think he caught a TD against us.

Terry Mclauren (SP) is who you are referring too. He is a speedy dude but they don't use him how he should be used. Very streaky. They have very limited talent like us but they just don't seem to play hard ever.

People think our owner is bad...shoot...any owner is better than Snyder.

I was thinking the same thing. We have gotten crushed by the local and national media no matter what the Dolphins do. For the first half of the season David Hyde basically rewrote the same article with different wording about how the team was tanking and how ridiculous it was. Then when they win, he switches gears that they are screwing up the tank. Now they suck because they lost.

I have also noticed that when the national media has a story or take on the dolphins, they are basically rehashing a story or article by one of the local guys.

It seems to me that Ross wants to own a winning team and is taking advice on how to do it. He is hiring (hopefully the right) people for the rebuild.

Snyder always acts like he wants to be the next Jerry Jones of the 90's. He wants to be the one responsible for rebuilding the Redskins.

Yes, we have some talented players...we need more of them and they need more time and experience to work together and bond as a working unit.

Coach Flores is on track. thumbs up He will seed the team during the next draft with good prospects that will steadily improve play and make the Dolphins more competitive. In 2021 we should see 10 wins and make the playoffs.

By 2021 the Chargers, Patriots, Saints and Steelers will all be without their franchise QBs. The QB tide is turning...Aaron Rogers will be the "old guy" then.

We have 3 overall 1st round picks.

I'm pretty sure there are more Superbowl winners without then with the top 3 picks. Top 3 picks guarantees nothing. Ask Dion Jordon.

Plenty of fantastic opportunities to make this team better in the entire 1st round.

GO DOLPHINS!!!!

I'm glad you used a gambling term, Colonel. It brings to mind that the higher the pick, the greater the odds that it will be successful and the lower the pick, the LESS likely.

Two guys sitting at different slot machines. One guy keeps putting his money on 2 to 1 and the other guy keeps dumping his money on 100 to 1.

Which guy do you think goes home with the more money?????

That's the draft. The experts can blow it in any given year but the odds are that the highly touted picks will suceed before the long odds guy will.

You guys want to put draft experts in the category of VooDoo or Witch doctors.

If we follow that, we will live to regret passing on our own better future.

I honestly don't know much about gambling, other than that it's designed for the house to win in the long term.

That said, I think there's an assumption in the slot machine scenario that the odds "are what they are" (either 2:1 or 100:1) independent of anything else going on in the casino. In your scenario, I would put my money on the 2:1 guy to win, of course...assuming no other variables or factors.

The draft is different in that regard - things like team culture, coaching staff and whether they have a bona fide elite QB greatly influence the odds outside of the vacuum of the draft itself. I think that's why I've become increasingly thankful that it appears we have a coaching staff that is setting the right culture and coaching well (player dev, scheme, playcalling, etc.) - certainly not w/o growing pains, but can see a marked difference from previous regimes.

It's what enables NE to hit on the one-in-a-million pick of Brady in the 6th and then parlay that into morphing draft strategies that never have them sniffing a top pick. Sometimes, they trade down and accumulate picks with the "more quantity = more chance of success" approach...sometimes they trade a high-round pick for a player seemingly with the "who were we going to get at #32 who's better than ____" approach. And, in both cases, culture & coaching & having Brady make their player acquisition wins more winning and their losses not as bad.

Poloar opposite, I suppose, is Cleveland. Top pick QB playing like crap this season (tho better recently)...prior #1 pick just got suspended indefinitely...release a DB for making death threats on twitter...top-shelf talent at a number of positions underperforming.
My sincere hope is that we're headed more toward a NE trajectory than a CLE trajectory (suppose that goes w/o saying). And part of that includes having the ability to "play chess while others are playing checkers" with the annual draft no matter what our record and associated draft slots.

Armando Salguero started the Tank for Tua narrative and our lazy national media picked it up.

Primary Herald and Sentinel Dolphin writers are a bunch of classless, egotistical morons. I grew up w/ Bob Rubin and Ed Pope they would print their opinions w/ out pushing so much of their egos in their articles. These writers today think they are just as accomplished in football as the players and coaches just because they write about it.

Speaking of winning and losing,

we Dolfans should be rooting FOR the

REDSKINS, BENGALS, AND GIANTS

TO WIN!!!!!

They are the teams in contention with the Dolphins for a higher draft position.

True. And I'm rooting for the Steelers & Texans to lose because we have their draft spot. (I think)

And as always, I'm rooting for NE, NYJ and Buffalo to lose. Just because.

Turning into a COLTS fan tonight ..... we need them to win to push Houston out of a potential playoff spot and getting the Dolphins a higher draft choice.

Jacoby Brissett owes us this win. If it was not for his injury they would have beaten the Steelers (2 point loss) and the Dolphins(I enjoyed the win but it hurt our draft status).

This would have put them at 8 and 2. Essentially making Houston's playoff possibilities difficult. Would have given the Steelers another loss (helping our draft pick cause the wild card would be difficult) and giving our Dolphins only 1 win.

In other words our drafting status was and is directly affected by his injury.

See THIS kind of draft strategy I'm behind 100%. Im a huge Steelers fan since I was a kid. But since we own their #1 I hope they tank tank tank. I just draw the line against rooting against the Miami Dolphins.

Thats what its all about for me. Week in and week out. Game to game. Watching with my boys, rooting. The Superbowl will come and thats gonna be incredible. Hopefully....But what if if never comes in our life times? What would you have then? I have last years Miami Miracle. The Bears OT win. We beat the Crappy Loathed Jets.

I'll think about the draft come Jan. 1st. GO MIAMI!!!!

GO DOLPHINS!!!!
