Great move for depth and keeping defenses guessing. Great move for Taylor, he signed for nothing and bought his south florida reputation and fan base back, well at least if he makes the team and plays well, but I am guessing he will play well and have at least ten sacks barring an injury. This is the exact same thing as the Alonzo Mourning resign scenario, and we all know what happen that season for the Heat in 06!

What i meant to say with a second wont be enough was that
Its going to take more thatn 1 pick for the trade to happen,
not necessarilly a first rounder...Maybe like you say a second and a
fourth.

You are not kidding!!!!!!!!!

I believe we just improved our record by a couple of games. thats a couple of sundays we will refuse to be depressed not even if the wife

Who thinks we just improved by a couple of games???

Do you all agree or disagree.....?

Depth on a football can defintely account for a couple wins, especially if you are bitten by the injury bug. Also in order to win playoff games you have to put alot of consistent pressure on the opposing QB every down.

A couple of games?? It's a good thing Taylor knows how to dance, he's going to need it when we go to the big dance!!!! I'm so excited about this. This guy did not come here for money, he's playing for 7$mill less, who the heck does that?? He's back for a purpose and it's not money, we're going to have QB's running like chickens with their heads cut off. It's on baby, the road to Miami has begun!!!! Our offense will score enough and our defense will pressure the QB and with a better secondary this team is on it's way. GO FINS!!!!!!!!!!

It all depends, last year Taylor didnt account for any extra wins for the SKins IMO. My guess is that he will play much better, as long as he keeps his conditioning and strength up like the Tri wants for our players so as to try and avoid the injury bug,

I think it's great that Jason has returned home, and it makes me forget about that ridiculous landshark deal. He belongs here, always did, and I'm glad for it. Initially, I was thinking, naw, he can't have much left in the tank and we're developing younger guys. But now that he's here I find that I not only feel good in the gut about it, but relieved that the D isn't going to fall apart. I didn't hear much good about Wake in camp, Porter we expect to fall off, and Holiday is gone. With JT here it's like good insurance.

Welcome back Kotter!

I don't think the plan will be for JT to be a starter for us. I know that will be hard to get used to, but that's what I think. He's too small to play DE in the base 3-4, even though he's always known how to use his leverage. Joey Porter was such a good pass rusher at the WOLB that I don't think you move him. And WOLB is the most natural position for JT. I think JT will be in the mix at SOLB. But, I think his primary role will be as a DE in the nickel and dime situations. In those plays last season, we would go to a 4-man front. And that's a natural fit for JT. If you use him in that role, it keeps him fresh, in games and throughout the season. If you want to utilize him some more, then he could play a little LB, with he and Porter switching up which sides they line up on to confuse the offense. But, I don't think you'll see him as an every down player. And that's ok. Because if you use him as a pass rushing specialist, he can still be a double digit sack guy and make a huge impact for you.

Im so glad JT didn't sign with NE or any other AFC east team for that matter. I would had been so annoyed if he did. Both JT and Zach had a chance to sign with AFC east teams and they decided not to. Both of them are class acts and will always be phins in my heart.

And the sweetest thing of all is bellicheat really wanted Jayson taylor. Not this time man.

according to Fins insiders/beat reporters on WQAM and 790 they are saying the Dolphins signed him as "insurance" for Wake. Inase Wake doesn't pan out they have JT as a back-up plan for the year.

I'm as happy as anyone that Jason is back where he belongs. The reporter would have been correct and Taylor would have gone somewhere else probably with the PATS. BUT he did not take into account that money is not a factor. GO PHINS!!

Welcome home JT!

I was previously ticked at him for last years foolishness...but, he gained us a 2nd round draft pick and was only willing to play for Miami.

All those stupid JT will sign with the Patsies stories were a total waste. His agent said that there were no negotiations with any team. However, JT had decided to ONLY play for Miami or retire.

That stance deserves an incredible amount of respect from us Dolphins fans. It's not about the money. It's about being where he belongs...close to his family and playing hard for the Miami Dolphins.

I don't care about him starting or not, I know he'll be there when we need a big play in the 4th quarter... and that's what counts.
Lets not forget our old friend Trace Armstrong, never started for us but led us in sacks every year.. He was always fresh.
We have very good coaches, they brought JT back because they know he can help them win and they'll know exactly what to do with him, just like Pat White, they know what they want from him. Taylor had his best year in a 3-4 defense which was new to him at the time, without Porter and without the new regime we have now, these guys have a plan for everyone unlike the morons that used to coach here. I don't care that he had a bad year in Washington, they're a bunch of underachievers every year anyways, our coaching is better and they'll use him properly and keep him fresh. It's a good day to be a DOLFAN!!!!!#99 is back!!

It is pretty sad when Charlie Anderson, Reggie Torbor, Akin Ayodele, Jason Allen, Matt Roth and Ernest Wilford make more money than Jason Taylor.

That was a hard lesson learned.

Does anyone really think that Cameron Wake is going to come in his first year and contribute right away? I think he is a project and learning from JT & JP will be his biggest asset.

I am really going nuts wondering how the LB'er are going to shake out this year and how JT and JP will be utilized.

We were 8th on the league last year for sacks with 40. We should be able to increase that to put us in the top 3...if not better.

1. First off, i doubt JT would have actually got the 8.5 M in Washington. Because it was on the contract doesn't mean he would have been retained for that after last season's performance and injuries.

- So all the talk of how he gave up $7 M for Miami is abit hyped.

2. Having said that, he did the right thing in how he approached it this year, and quite frankly still has something to prove.

- JT GREATLY damaged his chances for HOF last year, and has a chance at repairing the damage and image with a good performance this year.

- He knows it and so does everyone else.

3. Parcells made a good move and this proves he is about good football decisions and not the hothead many suggested about during last year's theatrics.

- This is a good football decision that has the potential to be win-win for all (JT & the FINS.

- This also sends a couple of good competition messages to the young guys. "Because you are young doesn't mean you play, get in there and learn from and beat the vets if you want the job"

4. This is a good move, and IMHO, JT, Cameron Wake, and Merlin will play. My guess is that JT will not be an every down guy.

Your dealing in speculation and opinion. The fact is that Washington offered to honor JT's 8.5 mil contract as long as he agreed to attend all OTA's.

Partially true..and like you said. He knows it. I don't think his decision to do DWTS has as much to do with getting into the HOF as many might think. Having a down year did more damage and took him out of the spotlight as a dominant player. Many others have made worse mistakes and still made the HOF. Lawrence Taylor and his crack cocaine problem for one. Maybe you can't compare JT and LT but you also can't compare dancing to crack.

I don't think it says as much about BP not being a "hothead" or egotistical but it shows he is not above changing his opinion for the good of the team and that even BP can correct his mistakes. It shows he loves to win.

No one knows what really happend last year except the select few involved parties.

Of course it is speculation ... so is most all of this forum.

- Take a look at Armando's column and as noted, he makes the point of just how badly washington misused the opportunity of how to use an older guy with rushing talent, vs a situational player

- At 8.5 Mil you expect that out of a guy, and OTAs make sure he's in shape to do it.

- A realistic look at a players talent / potential involve's looking at what a player's talent and his willingness to do what is needed to help your team. BP read it right, Washington missed it.

2. HOF

A players exit from the league leav's an impression that IMHO does make a big difference. Add to that that JT's off season and highly publisized antics, combined with such a bad year does have a huge risk (IMHO) to how he is remembered.

To be fair, give Washington an ample share of the failure, and add to that the DWTS vs. OTA conditioning, and you end up with the scenario of last year - Injury plagued, and over paid for performance value

3. BP - Mistakes?

> I don't think it says as much about BP not being a "hothead" or egotistical but it shows he is not above changing his opinion for the good of the team and that even BP can correct his mistakes. It shows he loves to win.

We'll have to agree to disagree here. BP didn't make a mistake. Yes people (not my opinion), but people commented that BP (emotion) was part of the problem in JT not being retained last year.

BP made exactly the right call last year, and exactly the right call this year. Neither reflect a changing of his opinion.

- BP knew JT had talent, but did not see the 8.5 M value for a situational rusher, who wants to dance vs. attend practices.

- He gained 8.5 M last year, a 2nd round pick, a 6th / 7th round, and now has him back for the role he is and was best suited for.

- The main difference now is that JT has a changed opinion.

Cudos for BP and JT for getting sync'd up.

What a luxury THAT will be! I keep comparing it to Alonzo Mourning on the Heat.

JT has always been an all around playmaker. He plays the run better than most give him credit for. I cannot say the same for Porter so I still can't figure why JT would not be on the field for 3 downs and JP would.

I think the key in passing situations will be to get pressure with 4 players. This is typically more successful for teams that can do it because you have more players dropping in coverage. The Line helps the DB's and vice versa...leading to more sacks.

It has been mentioned that JT will play DE in passing situations but I don't see that happening unless we go to a 4 man front but then where does Joey go? LE? he does not play well with his "hand on the ground".

It would seem that to utilize JT and JP, it would have to be in a 3-4 with both playing OLB. You have those two rushing with any combination of 2 other players rushing (more on a blitz).

Gives the FINS a luxury we haven't had in a while ... to keep people fresh, mix up the rush from different schemes and keep the QBs off balance.

If we get better at CB, the rush is going to be very effective.

We have better talent this year, but maybe a bit green on experience.

It's going to come down to coaching as to whether we can get schooled up in time.

We haqve more pieces, still a lot of work in camp this year to get them playing together on defense.

A lot of new moving parts in the secondary and some youth.

The good news is that bothe the lb and secondary improvements will complement each other.

Better coverage increases sacks, better rush increases ints and reduces time backs have to cover.

All of this starts happening once they get on the same page anmd play well together.

Based on what we had last year we should get better, hope it is sooner than later for the timeing and chemistry ... the talent is improved.

We have definitely improved the pass defense, but I'm still worried about teams running up the middle on us. I'm not completely confident we've addressed the NT position. If Ferguson goes down, are we ok? And our ILB's are still weak. Hopefully we'll see significant improvement there, or Sparano has some ideas how to address it with the talent we have (like moving Roth inside).
