The fog thins a bit

I think that tonight, the fog may have thinned some for me, though it didn't lift completely. I re-watched the Monday night game in December in which our team beat the Patsies, and we held them without a third down conversion for the entire game. Even though the guys who have left our roster this offseason did play a definite, though unusually small, part in the win, the young guys on the roster like Howard, Drake, and Godshaux, and guys who will be here, like Branch, Allen, Anthony, and Davis were the real architects of that win, and the team probably played their best game of the season on this night. With the new additions and draft choices, we might just have something. I think I begin to see the method in Gase's madness.

Uh-oh. My unquenchable optimism kicks in, because contrary to some posters' bombast, we definitely DO have talent on this team.

One thing that bothers me, though, is that Gase has been given credit for Cutler's best season in Chicago. Cutler took a lot of heat from many of us posters as well as the media for having the bad habit of throwing off his back foot when under pressure. In this game, in which Cutler was widely lauded as having his best game of the season and getting good time from his o-line (which he did!) he STILL threw many passes off his back foot. Why did Gase not coach this poor tendency out of his on-field habits? This leads me to question his supposed " QB whisperer" reputation.

Rick

Every coach Cutler has been around tried to coach that out of him per reports...none could get it done consistently. Sometimes you just have to let a player do what they do.

I agree w/ where phin4545 is coming from. I think management wants a new core of 'leaders'. Looked at the best the old core got us and decided we can do w/ out them. I too think we got talent but its up to the coaches to get wins out of them.

Maybe with the same players we have including a healthy tannehill we would be able to do some damage with NEnglands coaches and system.

Our coaches have to match up and beat their counterparts every Sunday. Which brings me to the new coaches on the staff like Oden (DBs) and Kocurek (DLine) who coached 3 season together at DET. Im hoping that they help our DC improve his game. Also hoping Washburn gets our oline together.

Im still not sure what Loggains is bringing.

Here's a tongue in cheek thought regarding the fog and what might thin it for me. With a few exceptions, this off-season looks like Tannenbaum, Grier, and Gase are literally trying to field the worst team in the league. Perhaps they have looked ahead at the 2019 draft prospects and have fallen in love with QB Drew Lock. Hence, we may be seeing the beginnings of Suck for Lock (not to be confused with the former Suck for Luck). Yeah, the rhyme isn't as good, but Tannenbaum has never been particularly good at anything else either so I surmise he's a crappy poet as well. That's what we may be seeing fellow Fin fans, Suck for Lock. I may go ahead with production of the tee shirt before anyone else does.
