Exactly JC.....Landry was more than a slot receiver....Way more.

It's NOT YOUR MONEY! Start looking at this from a football point of view. If you do that, it's obvious that we needed to resign this kid!

"I have no big issue with no paying Landry like he was Julio Jones and Antonio Brown. Again our offense was dreadful with Landry, it can't really be any worse without him. Everyone needs to chill."

What is amazing to me is your shortsightedness. First, IT's NOT YOUR MONEY! Get that through your ***** head. Second, if the going rate for a wideout is 14-15 mil, then he IS worth it. Third, he was more important to this team than Jones and Brown are to theirs. Fourth, you don't think this offense can be worse without him? Watch this offense not be able to get the first downs that they got from Landry. How are they going to mount a drive without first downs? Ponder that while you "chill".

What does it not being "your" money have to do with anything? If there were no salary cap I would agree with you but there is a limited pot of money so not overpaying a slot receiver who averages 8 yards a catch is important regardless who is writing the check

First, there is a salary cap so your point about whose money it is is not only irrelevant but dumb. Second, the going rate for a game changing WR may be 14-15 but a WR who averages 8 yards a catch is by definition not that so no thanks at that price point. Third, if he is more important to this team than Jones and Brown are to theirs then that is a HUGE problem and exhibit A why we were 28 in points scored. Fourth, see point 3, yes I guess we could be 29th-32d in points scored, but I'd rather risk that and have a chance to improve with other players than lock in 28th in perpetuity at 16mm per. I think Drake out of the backfield will replace a lot of those catches with more of a chance to break free for a score and we can spread the ball around more to make up others. I think Jakeem Grant will be solid and I think one of Carroo, Ford, and/or a draftee or FA signee will pick up the slack. I am not worried.

Berkeley223:

I think you are missing the boat here about Landry:

1) He is durable. He plays hurt, and will not miss a game. There are many equally talented wide receivers that are prima donna's, that will miss 2-4 games a season. And Landry takes a beating...believe me!
Landry is there 100% every game!

2) Landry is a punt returner. And an effective one at that!

3) Landry inspires his teammates with gutsy 3rd down receptions that turn a loss into a first down! This is due to pure toughness.

4) He is exciting no ignites the fanbase with his energy.

5) oh...and by the way he has received over 4000 yards in just 4 seasons....
How do you replace that?

All of the above is why you pay him 15 million and work on getting other players to help u out.

I can think of 7 players who should be cut ahead of Landry who made tons of money. Why did they get $$$ ?
If anyone deserves to be paid, t is most definitely Landry!

A) cutler at 10 million? He doesn't even want to be on the field? A total loser!
cool smiley suh at 17 million? How does Suh help, the defense? There is a pure Tannenbaum special! Why are you giving this guy 17 million a season? You are saying he should be paid, but Landry shouldn't? Please!
C) pouncey at 9 million? He is a center playing on one leg. He is soft, and sucks as a center!
D) Julius Thomas at 7 million? Really? He is a waste of space!
E) juwan James at 9.7 million? Really? He is a turnstile, and sucks! We are giving this guy almost 10 million, but won't pay our best player? Please!
F) 7 million a year for Timmons? A washed up middle linebacker who is past his prime! He threw up against the Dolphins 2 seasons ago when Jay Ajayi rushed for 220 yards on his sorry ass! We pay him but not Landry?
G) we pay Kiki Alanso 9 million a year? R u kidding me? He can't cover a pylon let alone a tight end! We pay him, but not Landry?

Clearly, our upper management is a little short sighted! Including you BERKELEY223!

I am done with this team!!!

Time to root for another team!

just because we've given out horrible contracts in the past doesn't mean we need to give out another one. Time to start clearing the decks and rebuild

1. If you think any NFL team can't manipulate the cap to be able to sign almost anyone they really want, you're naive.

2.Depends on your definition of "game-changing". A Wideout who gets first downs on most of his catches and keeps the drive going, a guy who galvanizes a stalled offensive to move downfield and score, is by definition, "game-changing".

3.Landry is(WAS) unquestionably more important to this team than those guys, and it IS a "huge" problem. It can only get worse without him.

4. Grant, due to his size, will NEVER be more than a situational player, and what have Carroo, Ford(?), or whoever done to warrant any confidence at all? Landry's shoes are huge shoes to fill- nobody that's ever been in the NFL has done so well.

So, you want to get rid of the rest of our talent and bring in unproven replacements? Wow, you would be a worse GM than TannenBum!

yes because our team sucks. better strategy than overpaying for marginal players, which we've done and led us to 6-10 and over the cap, which it sounds like you are apoplectic over for not continuing the trend with Landry

Do you consider Branch and Alonso "marginal players" because we just over-payed them just last year. That's the problem with what we're doing. It's great to get rid of marginal talent if the person that replacing them isn't the person who saddled us with the marginal talent. If this was a new GM coming in and trying to clean up the mess Tannenbaum made, that's one thing, but to let the same fox guard the hen house after replacing the chickens is going still result in dead chickens.

By the way, Landry may have been a lot of things but he wasn't a marginal player. Neither was Ajayi or Suh. A lot of people would tell you that they were three of our best players the last two years.

I really don't understand the only 8 yards per reception arguement. He has good hands and two 8 yard receptions between first and fourth down equals another first down (not counting penalties), keeps the offense on the field and moves them closer to points.

Agreed. What's more, I keep reading the figures 9 and 9.8 ypc. That's even closer to an average of a first down per catch. Also I've seen him fight for those yards, not catch the ball near the first down marker and step out of bounds.

8.8 YPC in 2017. If you need 5 yards, Landry will get you 8. If you need 10, he will get you 8.
Look, he is a good player, don't get me wrong, tough, strong, firey, etc., whatever you all have been saying about him. But not worth 15-16mm per year. He's just not. And me saying so doesn't mean that the other clowns they give big deals to like Alonso and Branch are any better or worth their money. They are not either. The problem is Tannenbaum and sadly we are not going anywhere but down while he's in charge. But overpaying for a slot receiver would not make us better and would only hurt us in the future. So I don't share the majority view here that this was a terrible move worth quitting the team over.

Some fair points in your post. I get it.

What's frustating for me, is that the ownership decides to draw a line in the sand when negotiating with LANDRY. NOW they're going to show financial restraint? with our best player? when up-until-now they've been spending money like a drunken sailor when re-signing less deserving guys.

I'm not quitting the team (i've made it this far, since 1971) but I am less excited about the upcoming season than I was for last year's-----and I didn't think that was possible.!

I was joking w/ a Ravens fans on Thurs of last week on how Ozzie was hot for Landry and the Phins could expect a 1st and second rnd pick from him. He said you guys are not seeing reality with Landry. a slot receiver w/ 8 ypc. You got yourselves painted in a corner with him. You are going to take what you can get and the league knows that.

He was right.

Trade a player at their max value. Should have taken one of the Bills 3rd round picks when they offered last year.

Unless Tannenbaum is willing to admit that he blew it in extending Alonso, Branch, and signing free agents like Mario Williams, I don't see how anyone can defend his moves. You can't view these moves in a vacuum. Not re-signing Landry is directly connected to all the bad contracts and extensions that Tannenbaum is responsible for. The truth is that Landry should've been extended 2 years ago. Instead, Tannenbaum screwed the team by concentrating on players that should never been signed or extended.

The reality is that we have lost 3 players that were valuable contributors to this team in Ajayi, Landry, & Suh. The Suh contract was onerous, yes but who was responsible for negotiating that deal? Tannenbaum. The reality is that the only way that what they're doing now makes any sense is if 1, they have a plan and 2, they have the person who can execute the plan. Neither of those two things will happen primarily because Tannenbaum is supremely incompetent & he always will be.

" If you need 5 yards, Landry will get you 8. If you need 10, he will get you 8."

No, berkeley223, he isn't Walt Garrison, whom that paraphrase was originally used to describe (numbers having been been changed to protect the innocent). Both these guys usually moved the chains. In Landry's case, if you need 10, he will get you 10.1- his career average.

I for one don't like the 'Head Case' mantra our front office throws around. MAYBE its just that these professional players KNOW the management/coaching sucks and has NO CLUE what its doing. Say so and you're a 'Head Case'.

Robbie was both. Naturally, he wanted a great team, but at the same time, he was very cheap, which is why they lost Csonka, Kiick, and Warfield.
