Its time to draft another quarterback. We got Tanny in the draft of 2011???? That was 7 years before the upcoming 2018 draft.
So even assuming that a quarterback drafted in April of 2018 does not take over the job in the fall of 2018 and Tanny resumes playing that year, that means that if we DON'T draft a QB in the SPRING of 2018...then we will NOT BE DRAFTING ONE UNTIL 2019.
I'll also make this a new thread.
Now I've added a poll to it. As usual, I will not be the first vote.

Hahaha, we needed to draft a QB for the last 6 years. Maybe we will get a top 5 pick this year and totally screw it up regardless because of the idiots running this sinking ship.

I agree, Miami must draft a QB this upcoming draft. No one knows how Tanny's knee is going to hold up, or even how long he can go, and we know Cutler isn't going to be in Miami after his average to poor play (thusfar), and his $10M contract, and of course Moore is not a starter, so yes, a QB must be drafted, however....
Not in the first round. Miami has way too many holes that need to be plugged. Draft a QB, at the earliest, in the second round.
I don't watch that much college ball, but from my understanding, there are no QBs that have the look of a future HOFer, so I believe a good one (future starter) can be had in the second.
Its possible Miami can trade down in the second, and get an extra pick, choosing a QB and then a position of need.
Treasure even if you ASSUME that the rookie QB should not start the September following the April draft and will only possibly start THAT NEXT YEAR (meaning not THAT Sept. but the next) that is no reason to delay it another year which will mean that the two year wait is pushed even further back.

Yes . The Problem is we did draft a QB in the 1st round. Despite the worst OLINE in history, several distractions, coaching replacements, at least 3 new offenses....He had several 4000 YD season, rookie records that any of you would have had wet dreams over if you could have predicted the stats.
Now.....imagine instead of Dion Jordon you picked 2-3 O Line men.
We blew so many draft picks on crapola . SO my only point here is that Even if The second coming of Dan Marino is available What makes you think He will fare any better?
You guys stae "WE NED TO DRAFT A QB" like the future depends on it. Like when we draft a QB a Championship is in the bag. I think a Great Team makes a decent QB great.
No Helping Cutler.
But Tannehill is a good QB at the very least. Remember the last time this team was competitive? Jimmy Johnson traded our Top picks. He wheeled and dealed into more and more draft picks. He mined the 3rd 4th 5th rounders. Jason Taylor and Zack Thomas were 3rd and 5th rounders. BOTH Hall of Famers (one present one future).
When was the last time you had Hall of famers on the same Team? THATS what wins Championships.

Theoretically, yes. That's what wins championships. But Jimmy didn't win one with us.
Don't get me wrong, Taylor and Zack are two of my favorite players ever. And I did like Johnson's overall strategy of stockpiling mid round picks. But, he didn't deliver a championship to Miami, and what he left as a legacy was Dave Wannestedt.
I agree we need to draft one with a high pick. Not because of anything in particular due to Tannehill, but because it's good business to be developing QB talent, starting with good raw material. Tannehill may be our QB for the entirety of the new rookie's contract, and it still won't necessarily make the investment a bad one.

Jimmy was on the way so I believe in his strategy. He lost heart after some life changing moments and I respect his decision to retire from the NFL.He never returned to coaching so he was sincere. But I truly believe if he stayed 3 more seasons he would have gotten us one. He made us competitive for sure. We were a true threat every time you played us.when was the last time you could say that?
His strategy is/was solid. Do your homework on those late rounds.stockpile picks. One other coach I know does the same......he even found a Future HOFer QB in the 6th round once.

Like I have said often before.....and to my own regret as a Jim Brown fan....it is a quarterback league now. No quarterback and you suck hind tit. I am afraid of Tanny not being able to come back to his last form and even if he does....how long do you think we will be able to ride him as he was drafted more than five years ago? If the best QB of the 2018 draft falls to us....grab him!

I don't believe Coach Schuler ever thought Dan Marino would be there when we picked at 24. We went to the SB the year before and a QB wasn't on his list in the first round. I think it was RB.
But there he was so he grabbed him like Al Franken on a tit.
IF that scenario showed itself maybe.....but I don't see this being a draft class like 83' . It would have to be someone outstanding...like when Tunsil just fell in our lap.
GO DOLPHINS!!!!

Agree, always have, in denial every year I try to act like we can make it with whatever average Joe or journeyman we have but I just can’t, QB is THE most important position 100 times over in today’s NFL. Why do you think the Pats can plug in guys off the street and look good at Oline???!!! Did the Colts worry about how bad their Oline or Linebackers were when they drafted Manning? I know, I know, who’s that good??? Well hell, WE DONT KNOW?!?!?! And no one knew how good Manning would really be but WE have to try! We can’t keep acting like we have since Marino left...That WHOEVER will do at QB as long as we have this that or the other thing. Having a top tier QB doesn’t gaurentee success, but NOT having one gaurentees lack of it 9999 out of 10000 tines. Tannehill is OK but not Elite. And certainly no reason to stop looking for the most important part of a team.

And even if he is??????? You are going to NOT DRAFT A QUARTERBACK IN APRIL OF 2018 when you drafted Tanny in 2011 and wait until when 2019, 2020? Only when Tanny retires??????????????????
pafinfan, I get you. We do need a lot but every other position except Punter and Kicker has at least two players on the field when either the defense or offense is on the field.
There is only one quarterback on the field at a time. That's how important the position is. We go nowhere w/o a good one.
And remember, I am the guy who is always complaining about those "quarterback is the only player" people.
I not saying don't draft a QB. I understand that we have no clue how RT will come back and I believe it's time to move on from Moore.
However I believe LB and OL are bigger concerns.
I do firmly believe Miami's current front office will screw it up.
> I do firmly believe Miami's current front office
> will screw it up.
Of course they'll screw it up. I'm resigned to the fact that Miami will stink until Tannenbaum and Greer are gone. Given the fact that Ross doesn't know his ass from a hole in the ground, this won't happen for at least 2 or more seasons of losing. By then, the stench of Tannenbaum's bonehead personnel moves will have degraded the roster even more than it is now. This is the price fans pay for having an clueless idiot as the owner of the team.
And it's a prison with no lock that can be opened. At least with a GM you can hope that the owner will fire the GM.
But with a bad owner....even if the fans don't come to the stadium and even don't watch the team at all...if the owner is willing to take the loss or losses then even that won't solve it.
It's more about finding a replacement for Burke than firing Burke. Id hate it to be like when they fired Philbin, but then hired Gase, a guy with 0 head-coaching experience, zero track record of success, just a zero.
If a guy like Schwartz is available to coach the defense, then yes please fire Burke and hire that guy! But, it's about the hire rather than the punishment for Burke. it's about improving to top 10 and not just about improving incrementally.
Burke shouldn't have been hired in the first place. The stated reason for his promotion was that they wanted continuity and didn't want the players to have to learn a new system which would have made sense if our defense was decent last year. It wasn't so why on earth do you want continuity with a bad system that didn't work? There are so many changes needed to make this team become functional again that it's hard to even enumerate them all. As long as Tannenbaum is calling shots, dysfunction will continue and losing will continue. Get rid of him, replace him with a smart and competent personnel guy who has total authority to hire and fire and everything else will come around. Getting Ross to do it is the real problem.
For arguments sake, let's say the Dolphins decide to select a top prospect to replace (eventually) RT. What top college QB might be one that could actually fill in for RT next season? I watch NCAA football and don't find a player who could do it. Anyone have any suggestions. Who are the top 5 QB prospects?
