Miami still has a decent shot of making the playoff with Denver's upset loss to Tennessee this past week.

Miami is battling Denver for the last spot. Currently Denver has the tiebreaker for common opponents (2-2) vs (1-2), They didn't play head to head and they have the same conference record, neither of which will change if they end up with the same record. So it will come down to the common opponents if they are tied.

Denver last 3 games are

NE, @KC & Oak

If Miami wins out to 11-5, they have a really good shot of getting into the playoffs. If NE beats Denver next week it will help the common opponent tie breaker as well. Their is a good chance Denver will stumble in one of those 3 games.

If Miami was to lose a game and finish 10-6, they still have a shot and again it would be Denver they would be battling. If the game Miami lost was not to NE, they could have the tie breaker over Denver if Denver losses to NE next week. Otherwise Miami needs Denver to lose 2 of remaining 3. Denver hasn't been playing their best football so losing to 2 of those teams is a possibility.

The 2 of the 7-6 teams, Tennessee & Houston have to play each other and only one of them can get to 10-6 which will get the winner the division and the loser at best 9-7, so neither of them can knock Miami out @ 10-6. 7-6 Baltimore and 8-5 Pittsburg also have to play each other. If Baltimore wins out, they will win the division due to tie breaker and Miami has the head to head tie breaker over Pittsburg. So none of the other team who could get to 10-6 would be able to knock Miami because they would either win their respective division or lose on tie breakers.

If Miami was to finish 9-7 and I don't see Miami realistically have any chance due to the tie breaker they don't have against Tennesse, Baltimore and likely would be behind Denver in the tie breaker.

As being reported, Miami just needs to beat Buffalo next week and Denver needs to lose one more game for Miami to clinch a playoff spot

It isn't being reported in the media but Miami just needs to beat New England to clinch a playoff spot. (They can lose to Buffalo) For New England, it will likely be a meaningless game so that will help.

If Miami still has a chance at the number 5 seed which would likely draw the AFC south division winner which is much more desirable than the Pittsburg/Baltimore division winner that the 6th seed is likely to get.

Miami will get the 5th seed is if they winout and KC losses one game. They could get 5th seed with a 10-6 record but that senario would have KC losing its last 2 and Pittsburg beating Baltimore. Rooting for KC to lose to Denver next week is a slippery slope because if Miami doesn't beat NE in the last game it still allow Denver a route to the playoffs if they both end up at 10-6 (with Miami beating Buffalo and losing to NE).

I believe NE will have clinched home field by the time they play the Dolphins and will sit Brady for that game. The Dolphins defense has injured at least 4 QBs this years. After watching Petty get crushed by Suh and Wake, it would be prudent to protect your starting QB in a game whre is means everything to the Dolphins but doesn't mean anything to the Patriots.

That sounds logical to me. But if they beat us it would be more painful for me to absorb if it's with their backup. They already did it early on and that hurt.
