Is Ryan Tannehill a "wet firecracker" as a famous member of this forum has come to dub him? Or is He just a Run option QB like his successor in College at TAM, Johnny Manziel who was misused by Philbin and Co who tried to make him into a Bob Griese or does he just need a better Offensive team to play with?
State your opinion. As usual I will wait until the first vote to vote.
I think Tannehill under the right coaching and system will excel.
He's too smart, and too good of an athlete to be considered a bust of any kind.
Considering he had a very abbreviated college career, and had below average coaching and system since he's gotten to the NFL, he's still gotten better every year.
I think he's on his way to being a top 10 QB very soon.
Well Gase is approaching this with the novel idea of actually building a team and gameplan around what Tannehill CAN do, instead of undermining him at every turn and in essence saying "I don't care what you are good at, do what I tell you to and shut your mouth".
I'm positive that crap coaching and a hostile environment towards his development have hindered him much more than his perceived lack of ability.

I disagree! Tannehill, IMO, doesn't have "it" so there's no way that he'll be a great QB. He takes WAY too many sacks, and this is caused by his poor pocket presence and inability to avoid sacks, the lack of a running game to take pressure off of him, and the complete incompetence of an o-line that can't run or pass block.
Want Miami to succeed with Tannehill? Give him a big, strong, nasty, physically-dominating o-line full of road-graders who will protect him. Give him a powerful running game that can sustain drives and run out the clock when needed. And, run an effective offense; this garbage that they've been running (finesse o-linemen that can't block, refusal to establish a running game, and the over-reliance on short passes) is pathetic. When it's 3rd and 9 and the QB's choices are a 3 yard route, a 6 yard route, and a screen 5 yards behind the line of scrimmage, then the person calling the plays is an idiot and your offense is pitiful. When it's 1st and Goal inside the 10 and due to a penalty you get 8 downs and every single play is a pass, then the person calling the plays is an idiot and your offense is pitiful.
Tannehill had no protection from defenses behind Philbin's o-line, yet Gase is going to build an offense using the majority of Philbin's o-line? I don't care if there are three 1st Rounders on that line... they just can't block! Gase is NOT doing anything to help his QB. The fact that he wants to use Philbin's o-line is proof. Why is the line so bad in camp? It may be a new offense, but blocking is still blocking. These guys didn't all of a sudden forget how to block. They couldn't block last year, and they won't be able to block this year. Philbin inherited a decent o-line, but changed it into a bunch of non-blocking weaklings that were pushed around by every physical defense. Want to help Tannehill? GET A NEW O-LINE!!!!!!

I agree but lets give him the benefit of the doubt one more time since we are stuck with him...If we dont make playoffs this year then they need to go another route with the qb position.

I'd give Tanny until the Bye week. After that anything goes.

That's week eight. The bye week, that is. By then we could have 4 losses with 9 games to go. (My last sentence is not based on looking at those particular seven games but just saying he does no better and we are 3-4 kinda like our record for the past two years.) That would be the same ole struggle to decide between whether we make the playoffs or whether we should hope for a higher draft choice.

Alright. Then, let's give Tanny 2 full games before we sub in Doughty.
I think the people in Tampa once thought the same about Steve Young..a guy that just didn't have "it." And rightfully so, but he just didn't have the right coaching about him to show what he could do. Once he got to San Francisco though...
I hope that Gase turns out to be the wunderkind coach that people are projecting him to be. However my hopes this season are not there this time, as now I know the odds always seem stacked against us.

We're certainly NOT Superbowl contenders, but talent wise we SHOULD BE as good as any lower-end playoff team.
Our O-Line can't block, but our talent at the individual positions is better than many teams. I point the problem there at blocking schemes. Who calls blocking schemes? The Center (Pouncy). Fact is, our O-Line has NEVER been great with Pouncy at Center. We played better a couple years ago with Satele at Center and Pouncy at Guard.
We have a excellent receivers with Landry and Parker, but Tanny can't get them the ball. His reads are slow..he holds the ball too long..and compound that with an O-Line that doesn't pass block consistently. It's no wonder we can't score points!!
I believe we could be an immediate playoff team with 2 changes:
1. Replace Tanny (Matt Moore would do)
2. Replace Pouncy (get a center with a brain!)
It's been blatantly obvious for several seasons now!!
I don't get so many posters' disdain for Matt Moore. All the guy has done is PROVE that he can win with this team. Many of you seem to want to go to Doughty if Tannehill falters. Moore lost his job of winning football games to make way for some unproven high- priced early round draft pick who hasn't equalled Moore's winning percentage yet, and now ya'll seem to want to do it again with an inexperienced late round pick. This makes no sense to me. Use your No. 2 QB- he's in that position for a reason!

Because he is too inconsistent. He throws a 40 yard bomb then he throws a pick.
Ive seen him throw two or 3 good passes then he throws a pass like he doesnt know what he is doing.
At least tannehill which i have no faith in either is consistent the whole game.
Barring injury, Tannehill will be starting all 16 games this season. He's not going to be paid franchise money to sit on the bench.
Moore is a good QB but, he's not the future at this point.
If Doughty shows promise I suspect we'll see more of him next year.
But SamSam, Tanny's consistency (except for the rare occasion he throws a perfect long bomb) is standing in the pocket, totally scared, totally confused, and totally getting sacked. At least Moore is better than that. But Moore or Brian, it needs to be one or the other if Tanny continues to suck which I have no doubt he will unless put back in a college football scheme.
