Recent Draft Classes

So, in thinking about our upcoming off-season (sad after week 8, isn't it?) and knowing how much help this team needs, I took a look back at some of our more recent drafts.

It's really sad how poorly we have drafted. Most of the guys listed below aren't even on the team anymore, let alone the league. Furthermore, the one's that are really aren't making an impact. Seriously, other than Pouncey, Jones, and maybe Matthews & Sims, what draft pick is anything more than average?

No wonder this team knows we have to build a team through free agency. Not a good thing.

Pretty sad list. Two 1st rounders on OLine...It STILL sucks. One on a QB who'll be somebodys backup in a couple years, Two DE's and STILL we can't pressure the QB. Parker...well, like I said, a sad list.

KB--
Dion Jordan in hindsight was a waste of a 1st round draft pick...but who knew what kind of trouble he'd get into on draft day?

Clearly we took him too early, gambled on that and him being something special. As it turns out Jordan was a monumental bust.

There are no guarantees with the draft or free agency. All teams have missed--we seem to really miss.

We have drafted poorly for a long time, which is why the team never gets better even when spending millions

What is scary if you show some of the players we passed on. Not impressed with Hickey or Tannenbaum's talent eval skills.

Did we not give Parker and Ajayi physicals?

I like Landry, Matthews, Pouncey, Jenkins & Jones, not much else

The Seahawks have landed better players undrafted than we have in the draft

I would play Lippett, he could be a sleeper

Is it drafting and player evaluation or is it coaching?

I can't get over the fact that last year, the Patriots OL was in shambles until their reordered their OL and started their rookie 4th round pick (Storks) at center and then went on to win the SB.

This year, Storks is hurt, and they are starting another rookie 4th round pick (Mason) in his place, along with another 4th round rookie at OG (Jackson), then when they got more injuries, they moved an undrafted rookie to center (Andrews) and kicked Mason outside to guard, starting three rookies in their interior OL. Also playing with a 2011 5th round pick (Cannon) at tackle before he got hurt.

How is it that the Patriots can just throw a bunch of players from the 4th round and below on their OL and be just fine, while we can't field a competent OL with 1st round picks, high priced free agents and 3rd round picks???

I just can't call it 'coaching'. Theses guys have been playing football since they could walk, they are professionals. What the suck at is fundamental stuff. Blocking, tackling, containment...if they have to be 'coached' on that at this point...good grief. They just either aren't very good or just don't care.

RE: A lot of it is Brady throws the ball in 2 second or less. If you do that your line looks better because they don't have to do much. The Pat's runnin game is not very good either...but it's good enough when they don't have to do much except be disciplined.

A good draft is usually measured as getting a pro bowl player and 2-3 starters. Every team usually misses on at least half the picks. Great draft would be 2 pro bowl players. These are not what I would call poor drafts. Look at other teams drafts.

That eats at me every day 5.0. They are so damn good at choosing their players that it makes me sick. And then there's Brady eye rolling smiley

coaching matters. philbin assembled a staff of misfits. bruschi called our offense a high school offense. in barry jackson's blog a former gm laughed at the way we use suh.

we gave the highest contract ever to defensive player and plugged him into our horrible system. you design a system to max that $114mm you just spent.

we need a competent staff to come in next year and design a system around our talent.
