He was set to make 6.5 mil this year (7 in 2016) and was holding out for more. I don't quite understand this but i can't see the market dictating more than that for a guard of his age who missed 7 games last year. He is still playing at a VERY high level.
Would be a great addition but this will tell us how they really feel about the current roster.
As much as I know we need to solidify one of our guard positions, paying this guy 14-16 million on a 2 year deal makes me extremely nervous... Even a one year 8 million dollar deal makes me nervous.. That is a lot of money for a 34 year old player who only played 9 games last year.. The gambler in me says go for it, the logic in me says, proceed with extreme caution... Cant afford to be wasting cap money with all of our big spending as of late...

I don't want to over pay him, but a "two" year deal like Jordan Cameron's could work. Its basically a 1 year deal with the guaranteed money spread over two seasons and a base so high next year it would require he get released.
Truth- He was due 11.5 million over the next 2 years from Philly and was upset about his contract and wanted a new one... That tells me he wants more then that.... Maybe the market doesn't bare that, if so, he should have stayed in Philly...

That is certainly possible but he probably hurts his value by doing so. Plus he's going to have to learn a new offense and terminology.
That's less of an issue if he comes here since Lazor came from Philly.

You want to give him a one year ten million dollar deal or a two year 18 million dollar deal? And you don't think that is overpaying? I was worried about a one year 8 million and two year 14-16 million...
I understand your point with wanting him, we will really be screwed if we don't solidify the guard position.. Makes me nervous signing him though, at his age, being injured last year, and that type of money...
I do feel pretty good that Lazor has some insight into his health and value...

No, I don't "want" to sign him for that. I was merely illustrating one way we can give him a raise without crippling our cap space next year when Suh's bill comes due.

We have about 8m in cap space left this year. We can roll that to next year or we can use it to fortify our remaining potentially 'fatal flaw' for this season.
Frankly, I think we've done enough in other area's to go for it this year.
He and Rosenhaus severely overvalued his worth considering his age. They never should have taken a 5 year deal at age 30 if he wanted to cash in. He would have been better of going with a 2 year deal at that time. Now he will be lucky to match his Philly contract. Let alone get a raise. He's not getting the Iupati or Franklin deal at age 33. Players at that age wear down at the end of the season. We can't afford another flame out in December. I would make him an incentive laden contract that tops out at 6 mil and wait.
And frankly I would wonder about his intelligence level....I mean, who asks for a new contract with two years remaining AND after missing 7 games to injury?????? Delusional??

Who asks for a new contract with two years remaining AND.....
Hell, Joe, they all do; they are all delusional.
Dez Bryant is a good example. $12M for one year not good enough? Give me a break. Yeah, I understand he wants a long-term deal, but to hold out with $12M sitting there? Sign the deal, then work on a long term. That's how these things "usually" get worked out, anyway.
