Hines Ward was a LATE (last pick) 3rd round pick who didn't pass 700 yards until his 4th year. 246/1 as a rookie.

It's your comparison. All I did was point out some facts about Ward. I am more concerned about impact players for 2014. Not 2018.

That's one way to look at it.

Landry reminds me of a James Jones with better hands. Could Hartline be traded home to Cleveland? Would they trade with us after Devone Bess fiasco?

The Landry pick will be worth it IF he can claim at least the #3 spot. That pushed Gibson to #4 WR. Not a bad problem to have.

You are right. If he's the 4th or 5th guy this year and goes onto a hall of fame career he'd have to be considered a total bust....like Hines Ward. winking smiley

Could be.

I think its Binns who is gone. But we could just keep 6 WR's. Lord knows we could have used one more in the 2nd hlaf of week 17 vs the jets.

Wallace
Hartline
Gibson
Landry
Matthews
Binns/Hazel?

IF the entire 2014 Miami draft class goes into the hall of fame we can name a street after Hickey.

That's not what I said.

Ward is a potential HOF'er. Landry is a prospect. I just said that I see a lot of similarities in their games. You are the one who implied you thought Landry was a bad pick, if the Ward comparison is accurate, because it took Ward until his 4th year to break 700 yards. That you wouldn't want a guy who is the all time leading receiver for one of the leagues most storied franchises because he didn't develop fast enough.

Lucky to make team as 6th wr. He will be solid on special teams maybe?

Hey the jury is still out, and come on man Landry can play, and last year injuries hurt this team. Depth at WR is a good thing too have.

So if he's the 3d wr as a rookie he is a bust?

His tape highlights from college look good... I also like that Mayock says he is the toughest physical WR in the draft... Hard not to like guys that are tough on the football field..

I wasn't familiar with him going into the draft, but I like what I have heard and seen. He seems like he has the goods to me.

But the problem, Truth, is that today's NFL doesn't give the players as much time to find their niche. If after a couple of years, a player is not producing, he is gone.

Maybe cap. MOst WR's don't break out until year three anyway but they do show enough to keep you interested.

Still, Ward was the #1 or #2 wr on his team in Yards and/or receptions beginning in his 2nd year.

The reason his stats were muted his first few years is he had a QB (Kordell Stewart) who struggled to throw for 3,000 yards a year, not because he wasn't playing well.

Sooooo our coaching staff doesnt want Wallace who coulda had 1500 plus yards and 10-15 TD's with a legit Qb.

They don't want Matthews who has been described as the best hands on the team and who played very well when given a shot.

This concerns me!!!

I agree. Sounds like the team would dump Wallace if not for the cap hit and will cut Matthews who has shown promise just bc philbin doesn't like him for whatever reason

You need to look up about how the game of Football is played. Look who won last year and why.

For 13 yrs this team has spent trying to turn every QB prospect into the next Dan Marino. Not going to happen.

You get a great Raw athlete like Tannehill the smart ones will determine his strength's and weaknesses and build a Team around him. Your concerned? Why because your selfish and your ego is hurt because you want to watch 50 yd bombs all day? That's not how you win in todays NFL. Grow up already.

Tannehill is a winner. But like Dan Marino he can't do it alone. I love the direction this team is making. Very smart moves. thumbs up

GO DOLPHINS!!!!

Hes also probably the greatest blocking WR in the history of the sport.

He looks like a football player.

I have no idea why we drafted him.

Actually not to get off track, I really like Landry as a player and Hines Ward was always one of my favorite non-Dolphin players for the way he approached the game and the way he always had a smile on his face after every play, no matter what happened. (Not that Landry will ever be Hines Ward).

My reaction to this draft was mixed because I thought we would draft by the BPA approach in a way that added other dimensions to this team.

I was all for adding a WR but I was hoping for one that added something different to the offense. As in a red zone target or a player with run after catch ability. Something I feel we are lacking.

Instead we spent a high pick on a very tough 4.5 speed, possession type WR who can make the tough catch. He's basically a shorter (3"winking smiley version of Brian Hartline or a clone of Brandon Gibson. That's great if you are pre-planning salary cap moves for the future but it doesn't really offer much this year in terms of added dimensions or TD's.

Instead Hickey seemed to fall in love with certain players and never considered BPA. By his own admission, he targeted certain players.

I like JJ as well but you kind of paint yourself in a corner when you fall in love with one player.

I also thought we would add a running back that would offer another dimension in the running game. Maybe someone to compliment Moreno....a bruiser who could be a short yardage guy to take over Daniel Thomas' role (that never developed). We passed and it didn't happen.

We have a "supposed" starting RT. That's great. It was a huge need but you almost set yourself up to have to take one because you knew there was a shortage of starting caliber RT's around pick 19 in the draft and you decided not to go after a FA right tackle when it probably would have been easier to find guards in the draft.

We added a blocking TE but he has 56 career receptions over 4 years in college. Not really a pass catcher. Isn't that what Dion Sims was coming out of college? They had almost identical numbers in college. So we get rid of Fasano one year and now are trying to draft Anthony Fasano?

Hopefully Walt Aikens can offer some versatility as a safety if he doesn't work out as a CB. It's where he started when he went to Illinois but is he really going to fight for a starting role against Finnegan or Taylor. His college competition was schools like Catawba College and the University of Charleston. Not many future NFL Wr's in that bunch.

I guess I was hoping for the type of draft that Tampa Bay just had. They already had 6'5 Vincent Jackson and Doug Martin but still added 6'5 Mike Evans, 6'5 Austin Sefarin-Jenkins and a pass catching, play making RB, Charles Sims.

I know they had higher picks but that is what I call putting points on the board.

Will Ja'Wuan James pay bigger dividends THAN a player like Brandin Cooks, HaHA Dix, Kelvin Benjamin or Darqueze Dennard?

Jarvis Landry over Davante Adams, Bishop Sankey, Cody Lattimer or Carlos Hyde?

Billy Turner over Charles Sims, Marcus Martin, Chris Borland or Donte Moncrief?

Only time will tell.

You're frightening me, Joe because I respect your opinion so much.

I know you're not saying we are dead with our picks. I know you're just saying we could have picked better.

But let's hope that we came close to doing as well as we would have had we done what you suggested.
