I would not be surprised to see the NFL come down hard on the Dolphins when the Martin saga is all said and done. While it's a different situation than the New Orleans "bounty" stuff, it will still get scrutinized under a microscope at great length. I hope Philbin is able to keep his job.

Not likely because the Dolphins asked for the NFL's help...no coverup here to the extent of the NOLA situation.

I heard Shefter on the radio (Sid Rosenberg) this morning and he made some very ominous comments about this going to get really really bad for the team in the near future. Contrary to what Incog might think. Shefter is the consummate insider and you know he has already seen whatever evidence is going to be coming out soon and he has a very good sense of how it's going to be perceived. So hold on to your hats guys, this is going to get ugly and embarassing, again, for this team.

All that said whatever the texts and voice mails Martin turns over, unless it is something like blatant racial harassment (I highly doubt Incog would, say, call Martin the "n" word on a team full of black players, and short of this there's not much I think excuses Martin's reaction) or if martin is gay/perceived as gay and is constantly made fun of as a result (again even this should be kept inhouse and dealt with internally, IMO), I am still opposed to how Martin dealt with it, storming off to mommy and daddy and filing a greivance with the league

This is going to be "Bullygate" and Philbin and Ireland will lose their jobs. I'm sure this is happening all around the league but Miami will take the fall for this.

Great one more thing, this organization is so messed up.

Incognito has to be dumb as a box of rocks to call out Schefter and demand an apology knowing there is some actual evidence out there to prove his guilt (texts, voice mails, etc.).
And I agree berk, unless this involves blatant racism with clear evidence, Martin is dead to me.

sadly, this is standard operating procedure these days. Look at Lance Armstrong, A-Rod, and everyone else who loudly proclaims innocence and plays the victim to the media when bad news about them comes out. Almost always that person is lying.

To blame the head coach and GM over this is a bit of a stretch.

These are grown men, that are expected to be professionals and act accordingly. Philbin and Ireland can't be expected to babysit and keep their noses in the players' business.

Suspending Incog, and inviting the NFL to make a thorough investigation
of their own, is all that can be expected of them at this point.

Dumping Incognito is the message that needs to be sent. Pretty good starting G. Dumped without hesitation at a pivot point (4-4) of the season. Displays complete intolerance of such behavior. End of story.

Today I am embarrassed to be a Dolphins Fan. Do the coaches have any control of this team? Where are the leaders of this team? Would this be happening is coach soprano was coaching? Just saying

Exactly. And stories of rookies paying for dinners, carrying pads, etc is not bullying. It's common practice in the NFL.

Unfortunately all it takes is one exception with the correct ingredients to make system wide changes and negatively affect the vast majority of good working people.

It is what our society has become...

I'm fine with that for 2 reasons:

1. THe play on the field is not as good as it should be. This coaching staff is not very competent when it comes to proper use of personnel and making adjustments. They are too stubborn; changes on the o-line (personnel and schemes) ONLY came after being threatend by the owner. Plus, this staff has done a lousy job of adjusting during games to what the opponent is doing. Good riddance, IMO!

2. Bullying and hazing are just plain immature (not to mention possibly bordering on criminal) and need to be banned. Ths type of behavior is used by punk juvenile delinquents (both young and old) to make themselves feel superior. A real man would never stoop to this level, but unfortunately the NFL is full of punks. A lot of NFL players and staff (past and present, heroes or busts) look at hazing as a "rite of passage", but I see it as kids who were bullies are now grown up and make bullying part of their profession.

I'm not trying to go all "PC" here and neuter the league; in fact, I'd like to do the opposite. I want to see a league full of modern day Samurai (the epitome of an honorable warrior), not a league of not-yet-in-prison gang-bangers and macho meathead roid-rage sorry excuses for athletes!

Must be a bunch of liberals on this site.

Incognito is innocent until proven guilty. How quickly that is forgotten.

The mere mention of racism in ever day life involving any white person and a black, the white person is immediately guilty of racism and it now becomes a hate crime.

Personally, I hope Martin never suits up again for the Fins. We need players with an attitude and not be wearing their feelings on their sleeve. These are grown men for Pete's sake !!!

Let us not forget, Martin was a turnstile for the opposing defense and I am sure Incognito was trying to make him grow up.

Who on this site has convicted him in their mind or minds?

The part of my post about bullying has nothing to do with Incognito. I only mentioned it because the media seems to think that this is a bullying issue, and I see it as something else entirely.

I'm waiting to hear more info from both sides before making up my mind, but more and more I feel that this could be a long time in the making, well-orchestrated civil suit. Who would keep messages from April, unless it was for future use? Were the messages friendly workplace banter encouraging Martin to toughen up for the good of the team, or were they actual threats? We don't know. If they were friendly, there would be no reason to keep them. If they were meant as harassment, then I could see keeping them for evidence. If lawyers have been involved for a long time now, then they would keep the messages, even if no offense or harm was intended, knowing that they could be used out of context to advance their case.

it will be interesting how this impacts all teams and such practices in the future. All it takes is one weak head case to blow it all up, and we have it.

As I said before, if it was not for football all these guys would be in prison. It's a way for them to keep them out of an overcrowded prison system as it is.

Oh, come on. That's a vast overstatement and blames about 98% of the people for what about 2% like Aaron Hernandez do.

I agree, the fact these guys all spent some time in college for the most part and our vetted to the extreme before the draft, makes that statement ridiculous and extremely shallow perspective of professional NFL athletes IMO..

It seems it is forgotten pretty quickly. I took you only one sentence to convict Martin BEFORE getting all the evidence!

So liberals convict before "conservatives"? lol yeah right. Every hear of Joe McCarthy?

Incognito allowed more sacks than any other guard in the NFL and just one less than Martin...besides being a better player doesn't mean you can do anything you want.

So they were buddies and everything was in jest.

There will still be consequences to pay for our team for something that is probably more commonplace than we realize in other locker rooms.

Sucks that our team is the one that's been chosen to take the hit.
