I wouldn't mind having Coles. He still has speed and he always had the size so picking him up would only make the offense more dangerous....Not suggesting that we use it as a staple or anything but more spread offense is what we should be seeing out of the unit anyway.
I'd still draft someone even if we do pick up a WR in F/A.
I was just about to post this..... but i was going to title... our answer to WR.... this is a no-brainier... Coles and Pennington have great chemistry... Coles is a monster at wide out... and he is everything we are missing in a wide-out: Size and a deep threat.
ahh yes, the beauty of the afc east. No one is really on a team, you just play for someone for a few years and then go to the next team in the division. So much sharing of players it is almost incestrial...
for the right price I would take him. The good thing is he likes penni and he wants to stick it to the jets I think he will come to miami at a discounted price. Couple that with we went 11-5, i see miami as being his #1 choice. Would save us a possible first day reciever pick. However if britt is around mid to late second he would be hard to pass on.
Would be a great pickup. He would love to stick it to NY! He and Chad are good friends and Lav was ticked when they cut Chad. He should still have another 1000 yard season in him at 31. He had 70/850 7 TD last year. How great would it be to stick it to NY again by adding one of their cast offs?
On the ESPN blogs JETS FANS are collectively saying 'I hope they know what their doing'and not thrilled with this idea. They are still very BENT about the PHINS being #1. aND POTENTIALLY LOOSING ANOTHER KEY GUY to a rival.

Yup yup. Perfect match. Has chemistry with Pennington, and is a decent pos receiver. I'd take him too if the price is right. He's 31 right? Something like that. Which means he has at least 2-3 years he can give you. Although he has lost a bit since his old days with C.Pen.
1) Coles and Pennington have a great rapport, however Chad is only guaranteed one more year in Miami. If Chad were considered our long-term QB then Coles would be a more viable FA for us to sign. But does it make sense to spend big money on Coles, so we can pair him up with Pennington, if Pennington is not here beyond 2009?
2) Also, Coles is 31 years old.
A. He is young enough to expect and receive big money.
B. He is old enough that a team that is building through youth (the Dolphins) may not want to give him the big money he will expect.
3) Lastly, Coles is not a big WR. 5-11, 193. Good size, but certainly not big by today's standards. It seems to me that we have plenty of the small, quick guys with good hands. What we are missing is the big guy that can be a big redzone threat. We have Brandon London who is a big WR that is developing, but we still may need someone else to fill that role.
Having said all of this, I do think Coles is a great WR, but I am not sure he is what we need. The more I think about it, the more I think that if we are going to invest in another WR this year, I would like to see us get someone young and big and less expensive than Coles will probably be.

Who would off thunk it. Pennington and coles going against the jets. ((( Still possible ))The jets QBless and on the verge of picking #1 overall in 2010.
Although coles isn't as fast as he used to be he would still be an upgrade over most of the receivers we have. Thats how bad we are at the position.((((pennington made them look better than what they are))))
There are some good receivers coming out of the draft this year. We are in luck. Maybe we can draft a couple of keepers in the early rounds.
If we resign bell what we need the most is receivers on offense and a better pass rush on defense. Easy to say very hard to acomplish.
A couple Free agent OL for depth and another DT draftee to groom when ferguson retires.
In other words...
Main Needs IMO are ...
1.Upgrade the receiver position......Not much in free agency.((((that receiver from cinci is only one but 0ver 30....oh and coles....))))...Gotta be the draft....
2.couple OL for depth.......The startes are in place. EDIT....Although a couple of backups last year got some playing time and experice with the injuries to both our starting guards. They both didnt do as bad as i thought they would.
3.DT draftee to spell fergie and the hawaiian guy.
4. Need either in free agency or draft someone from the DE position that can break havoc in the backfield. Hopefully lankford and merling will get to the next level and make a name for themselves this year.

He caught 70 balls last year for 850 yards with 7 TD's...all while playing through a torn quad. He has a reputation for being tough. He played all 16 games.
