Harrison - Any Takers?

So, Marvin Harrison is now a free agent. Any Phins fans interested? Yes, I know he's up there in age, but he is in great shape. Look at what Rice did after leaving the 49ers- 90 catches, something like 9 TDs, went to the playoffs. Harrison can still bring something to a team, and what he can provide, I think the Dolphins could use.

He's no longer a burner, but you already have that in Ginn. He has turned into a sure-handed possession guy who can run precise routes. And although he isn't a huge guy, he can get the job done. But more important is the experience he can bring to your young WR group...and work ethic. Put him with a smart and accurate QB like Pennington and you'll see production.

Question is, how cheap can you get him, and is he worth it? If he can catch you 80 balls and 5 TDs, would you take him?

No thanks. He is a #3 WR option. We need a #1 option.

I think he'd be a great fit with the Saints, as long as he gets that nice big salary-cap-eating raise he is seeking grinning smiley

Some good points Northeast Fin Fan. Especially number 3.

I was thinking the same thing. He'd fit best with a team that DOESN'T need him. At least not in the way of a #1 guy. But a mix of Colston, Moore, Henderson (if we resign him), and Meacham, he'd be a good fit. Even moreso if we don't end up resigning Henderson.

But as has been mentioned, wherever he goes, he has to understand that he won't be THE man. I don't think any team will pay him more than Indi would have, and no team will want him for a number one. A team like the Saints or the Pats, where the QB throws to who is open regardless, would suit him best. I don't think he'd produce very much if he had to be the go-to-guy.

I think he'll realize soon enough that nobody will pay him a ton. If that happens, I wouldn't be surprised if he resigns with the Colts.

They say he has not been the same since his major knee injury in 07. He is going to be 37 years old so a comeback is probably not in the cards. I would have to pass.

if he could morph into reggie wayne then we can do business. I think he got a raw deal, they should have asked him to take a pay cut. No question the way this guy goes about things so professionally he should have retired a colt. To bad for the sport.

He refused to take a pay cut. He was schedule to earn like 12 mil this year.

I think it was actually like 13 mill. Too much for him no doubt.

I would love to have him with the following:
- low salary + incentives
- no demand to be #1 or even necessarily a starter
- agreement that a good part of his contribution would be helping to develop our young receiving corps

I think that probably lowers the chance to below 1%, but with those conditions I could envision a ton of upside.

Ginn is probably built more like Harrison in terms of stature and speed than any other notable receiver. I think he could learn a ton from Marvin that would translate directly to his capabilities and style of play.

He will probably end up either back in Indy or in Philly to reunite with Donovan Mcbnabb (went to purdue together) if they don't land Housh.

Screw Harrison with Coles now available. Hell, I hope the Saints jump in on Coles before the Phins do. =) He's everything Harrison could provide (maybe not the same leadership), plus he still has game, isn't a senior citizen, etc.

Harrison was only worth a mention due to the on-the-field coach for a young WR corps. But that isn't worth the money he wanted. If I was Harrison, I'd be looking for a team with a SB shot, some young WRs, and take a paycut to be that on-the-field-coach guy.

Harrison is just another in the line of free agents receivers this year who is over 30 and over the hill.

No thanks. I am friends with several Indianapolis officers and they have had run-ins with him and his family with personality issues. He doesn't seem to be a problem on the field, but his tries to be a gangsta outside and we don't need those kind of problems right now.
