This is a moderated phorum for the CIVILIZED discussion of the Miami Dolphins. In this phorum, there are rules and moderators to make sure you abide by the rules. The moderators for this phorum are JC and Colonel.
No official numbers but reporters say Jerry reported in relatively good shape. If he reported at 345 and can drop 20 in camp he could have a shot at RT.

I'm a John Jerry fan and I believe he's the #1 test to Philbin's ability to D-E-V-E-L-O-P talent -- and a big part of that is applied motivation as necessary. And right now Mr. Jerry seems motivated.
Bottom line: Jerry is a stud athlete and has ALL-Pro potential (yep - BNF certified & guaranteed).
I'm highly confident Philbin is up to the task and Jerry is going to be "The Most Improved bitch on the roster -- or right up there with a few others including OV and my sleeper pick Josh Kaddu.
Beyond that -- I'm not digging on this Branden Albert nonsense because that effectively eliminates J Martin from LT contention -- which is his "natural" position and I think the kid is working his ass off to make big strides. And I'm always adverse to punishing those who work hard and are dedicated to constant professional improvement including dudes like Bess and (I'm hoping) Martin.
Bottom line -- Martin deserves his chance to win the spot ---IF he's been working his ass off. And the trade for Albert would effectively deny that chance because Branden has designated himself LT and nothing less (unless we want to pay him LT $$$ to plat RT -- and that shit makes no sense IMO).

If you are committed to Martin getting his shot at LT, then you aren't drafting a tackle at #12 to play RT. so, now you are rolling the dice on Martin, and then hoping if he doesnt work out, that some later draft pick is going to exceed anyone's expectations and become a good starting LT as a rookie?
Albert allowed 1 sack last season. Not one LT in the league allowed fewer. Why would he change positions? And why would he willingly move to RT, a position where his salary is going to be lower?

No. He was 25th out of all tackles (left or right) who played at least 25% of their teams' snaps, of which they were 80. So, 25th out of 80. On the same list, Martin was 76th out of 80.

From what I read/heard, Albert only had one good season (last season).
I wouldn't have a problem of him coming to Miami, but it would have to be at a reduced rate (isn't he presently at $9M?) I hate losing that 2nd rounder, but if it solidifies that OL.....
It "seems" the coaching staff isn't real solid on Martin at LT. With no real hitting prior to the draft, it is very difficult for the coaches to know what they have in Martin. All they have is what he did last year and his 4 years in college. Do they go ahead and make the trade for Albert, or take a chance that Martin will be a solid LT?
