including TE and WR....

Mel Kiper

1 Tavon Austin
2 Tyler Eifert
3 Cordarelle Patterson
4 Zach Ertz
5 Justin Hunter

Todd McShay

1 Tavon Austin
2 Keenan Allen
3 Tyler Eifert
4 Justin Hunter
5 Cordarelle Patterson

Kiper says Patterson has most upside as long as he can go to a team where he won't be forced to start right away

Under the radar..DaRick Rodgers

McShay says he is too risky to take in the top 15. Doesn't know how to play WR....route, read coverage, etc.

Under the radar...Aaron Dobson. Says he is Kenny Britt minus the nonsense.

Love Austin, Eiffert and Dobson.

Like Keenan Allen and Patterson.

indifferent on Hunter.

Would not touch Rodgers with a ten foot pole.

I would love to keep adding WR's....but realistically we will probs draft one in the 2nd round.

We will likely go OL/DB with the #1 pick.

So with the 2nd round pick we could add a tall speedy WR to develop, or a quick slot to groom as Bess's replacement/insurance.

We still need and will likely add TE, Safety, Corner, DE

So I think starting WR's are already on the roster.

Depends on what happens with Bess. Are we really going to pay our 3rd and 4th WR's 3.3 to 3.6 mil a year? 5.4 mil cap hit this year for those 2.

That's a really tough question. There's just no way to know where these guys will end up or who will be throwing them the ball.

I'll take a run at from the position of who will be best in OUR system.

Austin
Allen/Dobson
Eifert

I would add Terrence Williams to my list of favorites. This may be the best WR group as a whole to come out in many years IMO. They should help continue the NFL trend of a more prevalent passing game.

I would say Patterson, Austin and Eifert... One of those guys will land in the right spot and shine. Wish I was a good enough scout, to know which one if not all 3... But those are the three I would think have the best shot at history being kind. Patterson having the most boom or bust potential out of the 3... He is either going to be special or a bust IMO..

they are all just OK receivers, Austin has yet to meet physical corners in the NFL. The only one worthy of a 1st round pick is Patterson.

Patterson is no more proven than any others. They all have positives and negatives and some risk, just like any draft picks

Jlyell, he's talking about at no. 12.

It would be crazy to pick Austin at no. 12.

We more then addressed that position (receiver)in Free Agency. We need to go defense (Corners) and Lineman . Maybe a tight end In that order.

GO DOLPHINS!!!!

I think this is a good year for us to take a chance on reaching for a player like Tavon. Assuming we still add a veteran CB (Grimes?) and OL (Winston?) in FA, we will have 'latitude' (Philbinism) in making picks.

Our team is already chalk full of younger 'developmental' guys, so of our 10 draft picks, only about 6 or 7 will prob make the active roster. Trade up, get top notch talent, draft the premiere 'playmaking potential' player (Tavon) along with a starting caliber OL, save a 2nd or 3rd and still land a DB, go BPA the rest of the way.

BOOM.

Actually its 11 picks DasFin and Ireland said at the press conference at the owners meeting last week they expect around 20 rookies to make the team this year.

How is that even possible? 20 rookies?

QB Tannehill, Moore, Devlin
RB Miller, Thomas,
TE Keller
WR Wallace, Hartline, Gibson
OT Garner, Martin
OG Incog
C Pouncey
FB Lane

DT Soliai, Starks
DE Odrick, Vernon, Wake
LB Misi, Wheeler, Ellerbe, Spitler
FS Clemons
SS Jones
CB Marshall

ST Denney, Fields, Carpenter, Thigpen

That's 30 players that are pretty much locks (give or take). We need 15 to get to 45 and we will probably sign 3 or 4 more FA's at DT, DE, OT, OG, CB

On the bubble: Jonas Gray, Carroll, Stanford, D.Patterson, Wilson, Shelby, Randall, Yeatman, Clay, Egnew

Potential trades: Bess, Odrick, Jerry
Potential releases: Carpenter, Incognito

This should be interesting.

Need to get to 53 not 45.

Maybe its only 15 or 7 that make it but its still alot.

Clearly this staff wants its own guys, who's skill sets fit our schemes, so they can teach them and develop them.

Not all are going to work out, but if you already know the veterans you have aren't ever going to fit, then it makes sense to go young and find some guys who fit what you are trying to do and still have room to improve.

It certainly doesn't seem to be the gameplan of a GM and/or HC who think they are on the hot seat.

It will be fascinating to see how it plays out.

45 active players. I'm not concerned about practice squad players at this point. I doubt they will all be rookies either.

I can see 10-12 rookies making the 53 but 20 means all the players that were on the practice squad in 2012 won't beat out the new undrafted guys this year. It's an exaggeration no doubt.

We still have to fill several backup positions with players that can actually step up if needed. RG, LG, DT, DE, CB, FS etc.

53 man roster... in addition to the practice squad.

I think its 46 active on game day as of this year. Used to be 45 plus a 3rd inactive QB. Seem to remember them increasing it in the last CBA to make that 3rd QB spot open to any player.

ok...I was never quite sure about the 53 and 8 man PS.....so basically its a 46 man active roster and a 15 man reserve/practice squad.

***************************************************

The problem with this post and all the others concerning the draft is we are all speculating that there will be no other additions to the roster until the draft. I don't necessarily agree with that.

Ireland is still bringing players in to see what they have to offer and what they are asking for.

Chryen, your first option is an offensive lineman. I believe Miami has brought both Winston and Moore in for a look-see. No word on what is going on there. Sign one of them and it "seems" like the OT position is taken care of. Or is Moore a guard? Anyway, Ireland is still looking at that position.

Your next one was cornerback. Milliner is the only true top notch CB that should be taken in the first 20 picks. Everyone else is late first or early in the second (and there is truly only about 3 of them worthy of that). Ireland is considering Grimes. However, even signing Grimes doesn't solve that problem. If Miami can get another vet for a good price, then that would end the "must have" CB position.

Your third one was a pass rusher. For some reason, Ireland hasn't really addressed that one in FA. There are some out there, but it's just possible they are too expensive and Ireland is waiting for time to go by and these guys come to their senses as to what their true value is. I have been saying all along that Ireland has to draft the BPA at 12, no matter the position.

The top offensive linemen will probably be gone by Miami's turn (unless the teams go crazy and start grabbing QBs, which no one was expecting). Again, CBs are late first to second round talent (except for Milliner). There is a possibility that there will be a pass rusher available that would be worth Miami taking at that spot.

But, we must all just relax and wait to see what else Ireland does prior to the draft.

we have 5 picks in the first 82. That should be 5 guys who start this year or next.

You can get a starting OL or CB in the 2nd in MOST drafts, this one is stacked with them.

FYI...Our current starting LT was a 2nd round pick last year and two of the best CB's in the history of this franchise...Pat Surtain and Sam Madison were both 2nd round picks.

I'm really not sure why you are so obsessed with limiting the scope of the players selected with our first pick. Its far more important that we get a pro bowl level player than that we address one of our biggest needs.

Bob, You do realize that Keller only signed a 1 year deal right? And that right now our 2nd TE is Egnew who barely got on the field last year...right?

We need a 2nd TE in this draft.

Ok, you named three. That's less than five, so drafting a WR in our first 5 picks doesn't mess up your plan now does it?

Of course, it also seems that you are assuming we won't be signing anymore free agents. I don't think that is the case. If I'm right then your 3 needs becomes two, one or none.

If I'm wrong, we can STILL add a WR in the top 5 picks AND address your concerns...so I really don't see what your issue with my comment is.

I think it's a given that we draft a WR in the first 4 rounds. Bess isn't under contract for 2014, and Gibson signed what amounts to a 1 year deal.

And we absolutely need a TE. Keller is on a one year deal. And none of the top 3 TE currently on our roster can block. Like it or not, you need a TE or two that can play in short yardage situations. And Keller is coming off a injury marred season.

We have 6 picks in the first 4 rounds. 2 CB, pass rusher, OL, TE, WR.

Sounds about right to me Mark and in no particular order.

Notice who is represented on both charts?

He does not have intellectual concerns nor size concerns.....he is number 2 and 3 in the rankings.

He is going to be a great red zone target, has great hands and enough speed to stretch the seam. He can also block.

Having him on the roster gives us many options in a 2-TE set. What LB'ers are going to cover Keller and Eifert with the safety rolled to Wallace?

Red Zone offense: Eifert, Keller, Wallace, Gibson & Miller
