We could also go cooper in 1,
Woods or Swope in 2nd

If cooper or Johnson avail at 12
We could get some calls

I don't think were are drafting a receiver higher than the 5th round. Because we already added two very different ,and yet experienced players at that position.

Its just my opinion but I think you are wrong shady.

Philbin has been preaching from day one that he needs 5 wr's that can play all 3 wr positions to have his offense run the way its designed.

Right now we have 3 guys that fit that description...Wallace, Hartline and Gibson.

Bess is just a slot guy and he is gone after this year. We just aren't going to pay him anywhere near what he can get on the FA market to be our 4th or 5th wr.

Maybe Matthews develops into a legit NFL WR...maybe he doesn't.

Binns???

I think we'll take one WR in the first 3 rounds just so he's ready to fill Bess shoes at the end of the year...assuming that we keep him and don't trade him and accelerate the need for a 4th WR.

what i like about this draft (especially if we sign Long or Winston or another starting OL) is we really don't need to take any particular position in any particular spot. We do need a CB but I think we get one in FA, and I think D Patterson and R Marshall are average players who can be OK starters. So we can take on OG if one of the 2 supposed studs is there, T Austin if we want to go crazy with out offense, whatever pass rusher falls to us, trade up for Millner if we want to package a 2 and another pick, really anything goes. We've got so many picks that if a RB falls to us in the 2d or 3d that's cool, we can roll the dice on a Lattimore or Honey Badger, whatever. This is going to be a great draft, provided we sign Long/Vollmer/Winston and one of the vet CBs on the market before hand.
Looking forward to it

I think you are right.

We drafted Martin with Long going into his final contract year.
We drafted Miller with Bush entering his final contract

Bess has been good....2013 may very well be his best year ever...but I can see us drafting a Tavone Austin or Terrence Williams to develop and replace Bess.

Agree with berkeley and that helps us somewhat hide our pick from others trying to jump us to snag what we obviously need.

We could go WR, OL, CB, or DE at 12

Could take a Kicker in 5

Yes. I have been thinking the same think Berk. I like the trade up idea....Dee Milliner...Sharrif Floyd would be a great talent to have since both of our DT's are aging and unsigned for 2014.

Even if we don't sign an OT, we could trade up to get one of the top 3 (Fisher).

I think if we stay at 12, we have a good shot at getting one of the top pass rushers although some say none are a sure-fire stud.

I would be happy either way but I really like Floyd (as if you couldn't tell).

if we trade up, I think it would be for millner only. He's the only player at a position of need who (1) won't be there at 12 and (2) is significantly better than the next best player at his position. Floyd is supposed to be a top-5 guy but DL is one of our strongest positions, and we have too many other needs in other areas to move up as high as it would take to get him

I really hope we sign at starting RT (or LT) in FA now that Long is gone. Otherwise we may be forced to go OL very early in the draft

Ireland tends to draft a year ahead for players entering final years of contract. That, and the age factor are the main reasons I mentioned it. I think Floyd has potential to be better than Starks as a disruptive 3-technique.

It may not be a need this year but it will be very soon.

We will need two DT's next year but Solia does not want to move from Miami so he could resign. Both will be 30 this December. Maybe we take a big boy to replace Solia as the nose....Jessie Williams is an option if he falls to the second round.

He just ran a 4.9 40 (pro day) at 6'3 325...and benches 600 lbs. Yikes!

then again, Ireland could fool us all again and take Jarvis Jones if he happens to drop. Complete rebuild of our LB'er crew. He could be a blitzing 4-3 LB'er like Von Miller or play DE on passing downs.

He's on my short list.

Would be very happy if that happened.

I agree Truth. I still say despite what Miami has done in FA, their first pick in the second round should be a WR.

Wallace hasn't proven he can be a #1 WR (although that's what the Fins are hoping for); I am hearing good things about Gibson, but he will have to prove himself; Hartline has shown he is a good #2; and Bess is good in the slot.

A young WR must be drafted in the event anything happens to any of the above guys, or one or two of them just don't cut it.

I only hope the brain trust does a better job of picking players starting in round 5. These past few years, I have left the draft scratching my head and wondering who the hell these guys are. I've even gone into my Draft book and couldn't find some of them in there.

Hmmm...I've always thought that he has done decently well late in the draft.

Last year, Matthews and Randall found their way onto the field and seem to have earned more investment in their development.

In 2011, Clay and Wilson have still been contributing to us and Kearse was picked up and starts for Carolina. I re-watched some Tannehill highlights on youtube, and Clay really jumps out in his limited field time. I'm hoping he catches onto the offensive nuances even better this year because he gets open down the field.

2010 - Carroll, Jones and Spitler all still with team and contributing.

Clemons the year before. At one point last year 3/4 of our starting secondary were 5th or lower Ireland picks.

You're right that we haven't found a ton of starters or stars, but I think he's getting decent value for players picked that late. I think they just often take more development time than 1st/2nd rounders.

With Palmer looking on his way out in Oakland
Could we see them take Smith, or drop down
And take him or Barkley?

Oakland may not even get an opportunity. There is also a possibility that Jax takes Smith at #2. They just met with him last week. Peter King says he believes they have legitimate interest in Geno.

I could see Oakland releasing Palmer and AZ signing him.

Jax, Buf, AZ, Oak all have QB needs...possibly even Cleveland and NY although I think Ryan sticks with Sanchez.

Get away from here talking all that common sense, Toko!

Don't you know we ought to invest a number 12 on a wide receiver AFTER WE signed Wallace.

The TRUTH even thinks we should draft a tight end after signing Dustin Keller!

Haha, well if Lane Johnson is sitting there...I sure hope the war room has done their homework and scoops him up. I don't like Xavier Rhodes, too many "experts" are mocking him to us. There are tons of CB's available in the later rounds, and in free agency, that will be a better choice than him.

Right now I see our needs as follows:

Offensive Line (RT,RG,LG)
Corner WCB, SCB
Safety
Linebacker Depth
RB Depth
TE Depth
DL Depth

If you believe what Ireland said yesterday, we will be going after core (the expensive) positions. CB, OT, DE, WR.

I think we need an infusion of talent on the O-line....as many as three players if we do not sign a legit starter at OT.

I agree that we do need to draft a TE. We only have one on the roster and he is not a good blocker. Clay and Egnew may be gone. Both are huge disappointments.

It would be nice if Johnson fell to us but the Chargers just released their starting LT yesterday. Protecting Rivers is probably their first priority this year. They do have interest in Winston at RT.

Still so many FA's left out there....and many will be starters.

Let's be fair, Chyren.

Everyone (including Truth) is throwing out a wish list for #12, but those names (WR, TE) are ONLY if the positions of need are gone (i.e., blue-chip players). Ireland will have his big board, and will be removing names as each of those 11 teams make their picks. If by the time Miami's turn comes up, and Ireland still has a name that he places a high value on, still there, then that's the way he goes.

Again, the FA signing period isn't over. CB may be addressed shortly (Grimes), OT may be addressed (Winston). But, despite those signings, Ireland is still going to be looking to fill those positions thru the draft.

I am hoping those positions do indeed get addressed during FA, then Ireland can go in a number of different directions. If that is the case, I would not be surprised to see him make some surprise picks in the early rounds.

But again, our posters are saying these are the guys they would like to see Miami pick IF the top level guys are gone by then.

RESPONSE: I truly think that your position and that of the poster who so arrogantly deems his word to be the Truth IS DIFFERENT.

I believe that from what he recently said, (and you will note I stated that he ONCE advocated drafting Keenan Allen at 12 and then went OFF IT before we signed Wallace and now is back on drafting a WR at no. 12), he is in favor of drafting WR at 12 EVEN if a top 20 rated OL, DL, or DB is available.

His argument is stockpiling for the future and the fact that Dustin has a one year contract only.

So basically, he foolishly argues we should GET FAT at one position AT THE RISK OF STAYING LEAN AT OTHER POSITIONS.

No wonder he likes Ireland so much. They have stupidity in common.

RESPONSE: Which is wrong! He should take the best player available AT THE MOST CRITICAL POSITION OF NEED at the time the selection comes around.

RESPONSE: Don't agree. I believe that needs (with the possible exception of DB which is really more of a critical experienced based position) should be primarily filled in the draft.

RESPONSE: Yeah but still, why take the number 1 receiver when you have Wallace or tight end when you have Dustin when it would be better to get the number TWO defensive or offensive lineman which considering the entire draft class might WELL BE WORTH the number 12 overall in the draft?
