Cassell is going to be franchsied tagged and get $14 mill. He MUST return to NE, he has no choice. So saying he will return is a nice way of not upsetting anyone. Plus when someone is going to give you $14 mill...you surly don't want to upset them!!

That was 2 years ago he did that. And just because HE thinks its healed doesn't mean it is. He tore every ligament in his knee. He will NEVER be the same ever again. Brady might never be either.

You ignored the main point of my post. Eleven wins does not automatically mean the QB is great (Dilfer, Grossman, etc). Also, the Pats were expected to steamroll the NFL again last year, yet failed to make the playoffs. If 11 wins from Brady would have been a huge disappointment, how could 11 wins from Cassel prove that he is great?

$14 mill to sit on the bench and the fact the team doesn't want to let the guy hit free agency PROVES he is the real deal.

Game. Set. Match. Thank you!

QB's that are the real deal don't miss the playoffs when they have the opportunity to start for the overwhelming Super Bowl favorites.

By the way, the only reason the Pats will franchise Cassel (if they do) is because Brady may not be ready for the start of the regular season. So he would be franchised to start, not sit on the bench. If Brady is unavailable they won't have anyone else they could throw out there, so it would be much more of a necessity move than a ringing endorsement of Cassel. Then after the 2009 season, assuming Brady is healthy, you can bet that he will not be franchised again.

Systems are the real deal. And the fact that it seems they can throw anybody on the field for a QB seems to point more towards the system being great than the Qb.

It all depends on the coaching staff. I think Steve Young probably wouldn't be in the HoF had he not played for Walsh in SF. On the other hand Elway took Denver to the Superbowl on his back twice. There was no system there. It was just Elway.

Of course, Denver got blown away by SF in the Superbowl, so that DOES support your point. Still, Elway was a GREAT QB. You just can't argue that.

No, I definately agree with you. I dont think there is/was 1 system that could keep Dan Marino from being a great QB. He was going to be great no matter where he went. But, some sytems inflate QB's and some QB's inflate systems.

Dan Marino, John Elway those guys are inflators.

The New England sytem is a QB inflator. The Denver system is a RB inflator.

If its just "the system" that resulted in 3 SB wins and 4 SB appearances this decade, why arent the Fins (along with every other team) smart enuff to just copy "the system" so that "anybody" can be an MVP QB ?????

You really arent that naive, are you?

Capetide is back - wow.

I have news for you capetide: the dream is over. The last 4 SB winners are the Steelers, Colts, Giants and Steelers again. I don't see the Pats on that list, do you? If the Phins wanted to copy another team wouldn't we want to copy a team that has won a SB recently? Or at least copy a playoff team?

Does my heart good just to see NE NOT be a part of that list.

System??? LOL! You mean Moss and Welker. Those two could make Jay Fiedler look like Dan Marino. But its nothing to do with the "system".

As for SB appearances - it amazed me how delusion Cheater fans are. Time to start facing facts...

- Your team hasn't won the Super Bowl in nearly 5 years.
- Your team can't win big games when it can't cheat.
- Your team didn't make the playoffs last year.
- Even if Brady returns, he will only be a shadow of himself.
- Your current QB's production has a lot more to do with Moss and Welker than talent.
- Your LBs will only be older and slower next season.
- Your secondary is a mess.
- Your offense is one Moss tantrum away from imploading.
- Your great GM is gone.
- Your team doesn't have much depth.

Truthfully, beyond Bellicheat, two wide receivers, and a solid D-Line, the Cheaters look like a mess. And you have to figure sooner or later - probably sooner - Moss will figure out he won't win a ring in NE and start tanking it in hopes for a trade. When that happens, Welker's production will drop and Matt Cassle will look more like Jay Fiedler than Tom Brady.

Cheatriot fans may have to face the fact that the R word is right around the corner.

Cassel will not sit on the bench. If Brady is back he will be dealt for the highest pick they can get. If not...he will play and Brady will sit...maybe on IR or PUP. That's just M.O.

And why would the teacher copy the student....don't forget that Bilicheat got his "system" from Parcels. All BB did was copy Parcels way of rebuilding. He even had many BP players to do it with. He also got lucky in hitting on a 6th round draft pick that turned into a HOF'er. If he was so smart he would have drafted Brady in the first or second round.

Parcels system is to build from the inside out which is what BB did by drafing that incredible defensive line. He already had BP's linebackers in place.

That's not to say BB is not smart. He is a defensive coach but was smart enough to scavenge another Parcels deciple in Charlie Wise who implemented the "Ron Erhardt - Ray Perkins" offensive system that was taught to him by....BILL PARCELS.

BB also runs the "Fairbanks - Bullough 3-4 defensive system" that was taught to him by....BILL PARCELS.

That being said....The Patriot's window is closing while ours is just opening. Their defense is getting old. Seymour 29, Warren 28, Wilford 27, Vrabel 33, Bruschi 35, A. Thomas 31, Koppen 29, Kaczur 29, Light 30, Morris 31, Brady 31, Moss 31.

Not exaclty over the hill yet but well on their way...especially at LB'er....and they can't film signals any more.
