Every season I peer into the shifting smoke of what will be of this season. Sometimes people get angry and other times amazed at the accurate results of these futuristic visions.

This season I foresee a 9-7 season, due to chiefly :

The same coaches as before who we already know are prone to critical mistakes. The roster has absolutely improved, however we are paper thin in depth. An injury free season could hoist the divisional title flag in Miami, as unlikely as that would be. I estimate the odds of winning the AFC East division at about 18 percent.

On a more positive note: A team with a strong defense such as this season's Dolphins could go places as a wild card. As we've seen before under various circumstances in playoffs past, a strong defense coupled with a clutch QB/passing game just might make the post season very fun for once for us Dolphin fans.

We shall see in 2016. smiling smiley

The Fins have plenty of talent this year, but still have some holes that will/could hurt them. DB is not settled....LBers are not settled...OLine is not at full strength (Albert going to start game one, and if he does, will his knee hold up?). Fox is coming off his concussion, but will he be able to hold up his end of the deal until Albert returns, and of course the guard positions. Sure, they have looked "good enough" but once the big boys get on the field and STAY on the field, how will our guys hold up?

Sure, RT has played well, but how many TDs did our starters score this preseason? That is a major concern. We aren't going to win many games with FGs.

For me, 10-6 would be a fantastic season.

Sure, you give injuries, etc....

But watching the games (esp Atlanta) I wasn't impressed. Couple of big plays, but that was about it.

Maybe Philbin is holding back the offense, not showing what they can do? That's fine, but too many times I saw our starting OL being pushed back into RT's face to where he had to dump off his pass to his RB. Can't have that in the regular season.

Don't know how long you have been with the team, Joe, but I have been with them (forever). No one knows what this team will give us, despite your explanation (above).

I just hope you are right, Joe. I want to see this offense move the ball and score (touchdowns) on the majority of red zone opportunities. I also want to see our front seven smother the opposition and hope our DBs can play decent.

So what's wrong with having a little bit of optimism Cap? This is the best this team has looked in a long time, not sure why everyone has to continue to be a Debbie downer?

We have optimism every year. We won one out of four games in preseason because when the starters left the game the production fell way off. The depth is razor thin and, injuries are part of the game. NE is still the team to beat in the AFC East and, I think Buffalo is a more complete team with better coaches. Still, I'm optimistic that we may finally have a winning season at 10-6.

we're phin fans. it's easy to be pessimistic heading into the season but this one seems different.

new attitude, renewed confidence, a coach that seems to be getting it, a QB that has taken charge.

I don't read too much into preseason stats but what I saw from our defense was total dominance up front. I saw an offense that scored TDs with it's limited opportunities and I saw a QB with confidence.

I see us winning 12 this year and passing the cheats with brady.

Put it on the fridge.

Why? Because, as I've said, I have been with this team forever. Quite a few times over the last ten years (or so) I have had high hopes to just watch the team implode, over and over.

I have yet to leave this team...never will, but I want them to start earning their money and giving the hard working fans something to be proud of.

What they have been giving is nothing! Mediocre (and worse) for the last three years or so. No way, when one has followed this team since the beginning through the strong '70s.

When our guys start showing something on the field, then I can get excited before the season starts and maintain that enthusiasm.

BTW, this team does look like the best team in Miami in quite a few years, but again, I have heard that numerous times in the past.

I am more optimistic about this team before the season started than I have been in a long time.

I predict 12-4.
