Jarvis Landry

I read a tweet from Omar where he answered a question about Landry and what his ceiling is....

He simply said "OJ McDuffie".

Do you agree or do you think he has a higher upside?

I liked OJ but he was the prototype possession receiver of his day. He was not a big play receiver for the most part. His best season, he led the NFL in receptions (down year) with 90. He had 1,050 yards and 7 TD's. He had a 4 year run where he ranged from 819 to 1050 yards. He had 24 TD's over that span (6 TD avg).

In years one and two he had 197/0 and 488/3.

Landry, out of the box, is on pace to eclipse those numbers. He was basically a #4 receiver behind Gibson until game 6 when he took over the slot. If you project his season and use the 8 games he has actually played a larger role in, he would have numbers in the vicinity of 800 yards and 6 TD's. That's pretty good for a rookie #3 receiver.

Personally, I think his ceiling is a little higher than OJ's. I like his yac ability and he has also shown some big play ability. (Not the long bombs but the ability to make a play at critical times as well.)

I think his ceiling is higher than Hartline's and will take over the #2 spot unless they decide to keep utilizing him as a slot specialist. Also an excellent return guy who is ready to break a long one.

I don't think there is any way they pay Hartline 7.35 mil next year with Landry on the roster. Not when they can release him with no dead money and save that entire mount on the cap. As much as I like him, he has just NEVER produced enough TD's.

They will also not be honoring the contract of Brandon Gibson at 4.2 mil next year. Releasing him would still cost us 1 mil.

They will probably both be gone as Hickey looks for a red zone target next year. We are stuck with Wallace unless they can get him to rework his deal. He gets 12.1 mil next year.

Those moves still represent a 10 mil cap savings.

Some prospects for 2015....

Jaelen Strong, WR, Arizona State
Height: 6-3. Weight: 212.
Projected 40 Time: 4.52.

This guy could slip because of off-field issues...

Dorial Green-Beckham, WR, Oklahoma
Height: 6-6. Weight: 220.
Projected 40 Time: 4.55.
Projected Round (2015): 1-3.

Landry is a playmaker. I think he can do a lot more than OJ. I hope he quickly becomes our number 1 WR.

AS much as I like him, I don't see him as a #1 WR unless the Dolphins start featuring him the way NE featured Wes Welker on short slants.

He is just as fast as Wallace or damn near at least. He has good hands and is physical unlike Wallace.

I think his floor is McDuffie and his ceiling is anquan boldin.

In thinking more Steve Smith type of WR.

Good comparison. Anquan was a borderline #1 but had over 1300 yards/8 td's his rookie year. Very physical and has 20 lbs on Landry.

Landry is nowhere near Wallace in speed. Landry a 4.51 guy. Wallace a 4.3 guy. Steve Smith is also a 4.3 guy.

He has very good quickness and is more elusive than OJ even though they are very similar in straight line speed.

&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&
Mike Wallace can run faster than Landry backwards.

Landry has upside as a good #2 in this league.

The real difference in Landry and McDuffie is that OJ produced very little YAC.

Landry has the potential to bust 20, 25, 30 yard plays with his YAC ability.

Landry is very much similar to Hines Ward. Closest comparison

And mcduffy was lucky enough to play along side of dan the man...

Dan was what i call a control pitcher and a fastball pitcher at the same time.

He threw hard and was very accurate.

Players like oronde gadsgen (((slow as a turtle))) would not had been very good without dan.

I sure can't make a valid comparison to McDuffie; don't know who I'd compare him to at this point. Let's hope the day comes when people compare rookies to him, or better yet, make a comparison with players who's numbers are retired. It's way too early. He's certainly exciting to watch whenever he gets his mitts on the ball and makes plays. No complaints about him whatsoever. A 2 thumbs up on his play and selection in the draft. thumbs up thumbs up

He has the ability for "YAC". That's yards after catch........he not only has great hands and can catch , he breaks a tackles and turns nothing into something. He does this receiving and on special teams.

OJ Mcduffy is such a lame answer. What does that actually mean? Is it a knock on Laundry or praise? I expect nothing more from Omar. thumbs down

GO DOLPHINS!!!!

Treasure coast OJ mCduffy was a first down maching. Everytime he caught the ball it was a first down.

He was very good.

Thats a fair comparison.

Id be happy if Landry turns out another OJ Mcduffy.

1. Possession receiver slot

2. Great hands

3. Smart

4. Model citizen

I didn't Knock OJ McDuffie one bit. But he was a first down machine. Laundry is so much more. He is a beast to take down. One on one he almost always breaks it.

GO DOLPHINS!!!!

actually OJ had a lot of drops.

I know you want a link, but those thing are long gone.

I think Landry will be better then OJ, but OJ did seem to ALWAYS get a first down on a catch.

Landry reminds me of Duriel Harris an above average number 2 wr who can kill you as quickly as the nbr 1 wr. Cannot wait until he matures.

That's just it! Good point! This is his rookie season. he is basically all balls and fir right now. When he starts to learn technique and is more in synchthumbs up with the new offense.....he will be lethal.

I do believe duriel harris was much faster in the day then Landry is.

I believe landry will be a better WR.

fast isn't every thing. Miami sent many a fast receiver to Canada.

YAC. Not many better then Laundry at this point.

guess that is why fast guys are always at the top of the WR draft list, you guys should email the NFL and let them know speed I way over rated.

Now I will tell you who reminds me of Oronde but with more athleticism. That kid Hazel. I am eager to see what he has learned on the practice squad in 2015. I think he has game as well as Hoskins. In college Hoskins imposed his will on defenses He seems to have the gift to find open spots. We did good w/ rookies this year in drafting and in non drafted.
