I don't get it. Last year everyone was saying Satele would be a future Pro Bowler. Most players have a little sophmore slump. I think we can have a great O-Line without a super Center.

I think the sophomore slump is more for WR's. I don't think Satele is strong enough and gave up to much ground this year.

If Alex Mack is the best Center prospect since Bruce Matthews he has to be the pick! It has to be him. We can get Britt, Bey, or Nicks in the second round.

Satele strugled this year. He said he missed some assignments yesterday.

If Mack is as good a prospects as Matthews, we have to pick him.

BP and Sparano like *BIG* lineman, Satele is not their type. At 6'2 300 he is smallish for them. Mack is 6'5 320. Thats their guy!

Wow. I, personnally, wouldn't consider 6'2" 300 to be small, but, hey, I'm 5'10" and 175 smoking smiley

If we DO replace him, I hope we get some value in a trade. He was what we got for Chambers. I hate to see that trade go to waste. We could have used Chambers yesterday.

Satele needs to get his butt to the gym and gain about 20-25 lbs of muscle!

Yes! He's got the genes to be BIG, and I think he has the brains to be an NFL center. He should be able to bulk up. He needs to hang out with Soliai a little more.

Maybe that's not a good idea...Solaia was suspended twice this year smiling smiley

Good point. Better bring Ferguson along as a chaperone.

Didn't we pick up Al Johnson for this very reason? I would think that that will bring some good competition to training camp. Satele can also play guard. Fill in with another real good draft choise for RT or guard. Then we should be set. A year under the belt with off season training. That is a good thing.

So nobody thinks its a good idea to draft a potential Pro Bowl Center knowing we have journeyman at that position right now?

Alex Mack won the Draddy Award this year....
the "Academic Heisman", Pennington won it in 1999.
(sorry for the repeat of a previous post)

I don't believe the Center position is weak. Al Johnson was a second rounder and is healed up from injury. Satele will get stronger and bigger in the off season. Competition should be there.
We do need guard and tackle depth. To many positions to fill to waist a choise on another center.

If we do draft a center that means there's another position we aren't addressing. We have some holes that need filling at CB, S, maybe LB. So it just comes down to need, talent, and availability.

Im just glad im not in charge and dont have to make these decisions. Also, I am very glad Bill Parcells is. I believe he will make the right one.

Didn't everyone think Satele was a potential Pro Bowl Center when he was drafted? What's to say the guy we draft will be a sure thing?

I cant believe that I am saying this but I almost agree with A&O. Lets make no bones about it we cannot run the ball up the middle. I was thinking that it was the gaurds but satelle is an undersized center. In addition think about what they do at hawaii, they pass block. I heard commentators saying that under june jones NFL teams liked those type of line man cause pass blocking is the hardest thing for a line man to pick up. For run blocking it all about who has the biggest sack. Now if we are going to be a pass happy team then I say keep him, but I think we need to maul teams with the run. That being said we need a mauler in the middle who can move the line. That being said I will take a 6-5 330lbs over 6-2 300 any day. Also I dont think samson has that killer instinct that when the ball is snapped he is trying to leverage rather than thinking I am going to kick the crap out of this bastard in front of me... just my thoughts.

However I dont know about using our first rounder for a center but if it will improve our run game I am all for it...

The bottom line is we face Vince Wilfork twice a year and he absolutely dominates Satele. Haloi Ngata mandhandled Satele. Samson has major problems with really big NT's. He gets dominated.

This is true and next year we face...

Alber Haynseworth, Amobi Akoye, Jammal Williams, Kris Jenkins, Vince Wilfork and Casey Hampton.

That's the top 4 NT's in the League and two of the best DT's...

We should of signed Mawae when we had the chance...do you really want to put a rookie Center up against those animals? Actually there is not a Center in the league that can handle those guys one on one.

Like I said before...I hope Satele and Johnson are eating their wheaties this offseason! I would rather take the best between Johnson and Satele who both should be better and provide good competition this year for each other. Both are 2nd round picks. Satele just isn't strong enough.

We just need a 6'5 320-335 pound center. Somebody that atleast has the body type to clog those guys up. Johnson is 6'5 but only 300. Satele is 6'2 295. Thats just aint gonna cut it. Johnson has the height but he needs to add about 30 pounds.

The only way I think we should sign a center is if we are going to move Satele to guard. And then we'd still need to draft another Guard or tackle because we will need the depth.

I can see the weight argument, but why does a Center need to be 6'5"?
