I don't want to trade up unless its a steal. And by steal I mean moving up from 12 to 5 or 6 for a 3rd round pick or less.

The chances of that happening are slim to none so I'm not in favor of trading up.

Give me Austin, Johnson, Jarvis Jones or Johnathan Cooper at #12 or trade down.

This is a very deep draft. Adding another 3 and or 4 would be sweet.

what if the trade down got us X Rhodes and a 3d round pick (just hypothetically) would you want to do that?

Depends who we target and where they might go. Joekel, Fisher & Milliner are gone

OL will go quickly. If we sign Winston or moore, do we need to go OL in round 1?

Johnson only has 1 year at OL I believe so he has some risk also

Austin has risk with his size, but tremendous upside, but will he be oft injuredf like Desean Jackson? Are Hopkins,Hunter, Woods or Swope close enough in round 2? If Barkley, Manual & Wilson are there late in round 1 will teams like Jacksonville, Cleveland, or Philly trade up to take them?

Is Werner the next JJ watt, or Jared odrick?

Is Ansah the next Aldon Smith or Pierre-Paul?

Are Cooper or Warmack franchise OL?

Can we get a 2 or 3 to drop down no farther than 21 although Pitt could consider WR at 17 to replace Wallace

I'm hoping that a Defensive Lineman Like Ezekial Ansah drops down to us.

I am coming around to Tavon Austin based on his speed and play making ability and how he would fit in the offense. It could be a major upgrade at slot WR.

I was originally concerned about his size. In my mind I thought of DeSean Jackson, who is always hurt. Then I saw that Austin is 4 inches shorter but still weighs about the same. He is thicker than Jackson and his shiftiness will help him.

He could be our version of Randall Cobb (only faster). The versatile guy who does a little of everything....KR, WR, RB etc.

The more I learn about him the more I think he will be our pick. Plug him in the slot right away and trade Bess to free up almost 3 mil in cap space.

My other favorite is Eifert who I think joins the list of new age TE's. He will will be a perennial 700-800 yard/10 TD guy for years....with the potential for 15-17 TD's.

Yes.

If I trade down and none of the 4 guys I mentioned are there then my pool of players changes and I'm good with a DB or WR like Keenan Allen....even a TE like eiffert.

Jlyell13,

I think the point is...especially if we sign an ot, de and cb...that we don't NEED any one position anywhere in the draft.

That we can focus on selecting the best guys available, regardless of position, with the expectation that they will replace the people ahead of them on the depth chart today in a year or two and be cornerstone players from that point on.

If we end up taking a DB in round 1, I think I like Trufant better than Rhodes. I have read that Xavier struggled playing in the zone but it is the system Trufant was in at Washington. He also has elite speed.

I could handle a trade down for Trufant AND Austin or Eifert.

Right now we need OT far more than WR IMO. It's not even close.

I actually like jamar Taylor, David Anderson and Jordan poyer over the first round CB's like trufant and Rhodes.

I'd love to trade down. Get a guy like eiffert, Austin, Allen or kawan short in the 20's and one of those zone cb in the 2nd

Please explain it to me, BNF. Explain these other people on the board to me. I just don't get it. I was ORIGINALLY for drafting a WR myself but why in the world would some people think of drafting a WR at no. 12 AFTER we signed Wallace with as many holes as we have on the team?????.

Like I said, I was all for drafting Keenan or Corrallele at 12 but what sense does it make now.

If we were a solid team in all other respects and this was our only glaring weakness, I could see it but not now.

Our starting DT's are going into the season w/ 1 year on their contracts, we did not resign our #1 back up and Odrick is a question mark at DT. I say we sign Floyd, the kid from Utah or Richardson.

Speaking on behalf of "these people"....

Keenan and Cordarelle actually don't make much sense but Austin can be used like Randall Cobb is being used in GB as well as an upgrade at slot receiver. It takes us from a good offense to a potentially indefensible offense.

Keenan and Cordarelle could get drafted and may not even see the field. Patterson needs LOTS of work and Allen would be a waste since we just spent so much money on Hartline and Gibson. Allen would be an outside receiver.

Bess is only a possession slot receiver. Austin has the potential to score every time he touches the ball.

This is only being discussed since Philbin has said the plan was to fill ALL positions of need in FA so we can draft based on BPA.

We still may sign Eric Winston and Brent Grimes and Brandon Moore. That eliminates glaring needs so we can go into the draft and make some noise.

We still have 21 mil dollars under the cap.

That would be fine also. But if I'm taking a DT I'd like to trade down. There's a ton of them in this draft.

***************************************************

Ireland is working on two signings: Winston and Grimes (and possibly some other players no one is yet aware of).

If Winston is signed, that takes care of the "need" for OT. If Grimes is signed, well....that still doesn't fill the need because (1) Grimes is coming off of an achiles injury and (2) Miami needs more CB help. Problem? Except for Milliner, there is no CB worth taking at 12.

Miami supposedly talking to Moore at Guard. If he is signed, then another position of "need" is taken care of.

I don't believe any of those "blue chip" players will be there at 12, so Ireland is going to have to go with his big board and pick the BPA. Again, depending on who he signs or does not sign from here on out, will determine what he does at 12. If all those signing occur, then he can go in any direction he wishes.

Austin would be a good pick there, but so would a pass rusher (DE or OLcool smiley or a DT. Much has been made about Star Lotulelei's medical condition, so unless he is completely cleared by team doctors, he may be available to Miami. Would Ireland take a chance?

But again, at 12, it is doubtful any player will be left on Ireland's "must have" board, so he will either go with BPA or entertain offers for a trade down. Why stay at 12 if "the guy" is not there?

Hahaha. Awesome.

Btw... Any of the top wr's would be a solid selection.

A guy like Allen can play slot and x/y.

By the time they are up to full speed bess will be gone and Gibson will be on the chopping block. He'd slot in nicely as the #3 until Wallace's contract was up.

The only positions that should be off the table in round one are QB, RB, FB, P, K.

Everything else should be on the table at 12 or after a trade down.

If it went like that I could live with it.

I think the only guys left I'd prefer would be johnathan cooper and perhaps Jarvis jones. But I don't see us takin jones that high.

I agree. I just like Eifert as a red zone target. We need the TD's.

A lot of people have him mocked to Tampa at 13 so...

Tyler Eifert, really? Everyone dreams about it, but he is NOT another Gronk. He's a poor blocker. He's big and fast(for a TE), but that limitation in his game to me spells out to me that he's a second rounder. Someone will reach for him though, I hope it's not the Dolphins.

I'm really pleased with the Offseason so far. I don't see any "SURE thing, must haves" in this draft. I wouldn't be opposed to the best Cornerback available at #12 , Our greatest need IMO. But The best thing for us in this draft would be a trade down , add picks ad better our odds of landing starters. But I don't see that happening because no one is really worth that in this draft.

GO DOLPHINS!!!!
