Special Teams

Anyone have any idea of the special teams players that make up our core players?

Other than returners, long snapper and kickers?

I know certain players that are big contributors like Culver, Hilliard and Moore but can anyone offer some insight on positions (other than flyer and gunner) that make up these units?

Moore didn't play on special teams last year. They tried him during the pre-season, but he was lousy and that was a big reason he fell behind Wallace on the depth chart.

Our leading special teams tacklers in 2010.

13- Jonathan Amaya
10- Tyrone Culver
8- Lex Hilliard
8- Reshad Jones
7- Roberto Wallace
6- Patrick Cobbs
4- Tim Dobbins
4- Austin Spitler
4- Bobby Carpenter
3- John Denney
3- Nate Ness
3- Benny Sapp
3- Nolan Carroll
3- Vontae Davis

Using the grades from profootballfocus.com, our best overall special teams players were:

1. Patrick Cobbs
2. Lex Hilliard
3. Tyrone Culver
4. Reshard Jones
5. Nate Ness
The reason Amaya is not in the top 5 is that he earned a big negative grade on the punt team.

Our best players on kickoffs:
1. Cobbs
2. Jones
3. Carroll (this includes his return grade, too)
4. Hilliard
5. Culver

On punts:
1. Wallace
2. Ness
3. Sapp
4. Hilliard
5. Dobbins

Special teams coverage needs to improve from last year and thats why i think hilliard makes this team...

cobbs who is no longer with the phins also had some good tackles last year..

We havent been that good overall on special teams ever since whats his name on crutches left to the jets. In fact this has been one of the big weaknesses on this team.

It seems we we much improved in 10 compared to 09 when we were terrible.

The poor play was due mainly to the constant churning of the bottom of the roster. I think we should be even better this year with the depth we have as a team now as well as the increased speed.

I read an article this week where TS called out Moore for playing well on STs....unless I am confusing him with someone else.
