Via twitter...I also heard that Bush is being counted on to be the starting RB and will play on first downs with DT coming in on 2nd.

This would really keep the defense off balance if he can emerge as a dual threat. We could either run or pass on first down with the options of going to a receiver, dump of to Bush or a run with RB.

He really opens things up for us. Remember Ricky wasn't dominate until he came to Miami.

This really takes advantage of defensive formations. They come out in a base run defense and we have option (audible) to throw to create mismatcheswith weapons like Clay, Bush or Marshall and Hartline. Marshall has been lining up in the slot a lot in practice. Something he only did 15% of the time last year.

They come out in a nickel and we hopefully can run with Bush between tackles or Clay at FB.

I hope they change it up, though, and even stick with one guy if they're hot. I'd hate to see us be THAT predictable (Bush on 1st down, DT on 2nd and 3rd) drive-after-drive. Teams will adjust to that in no time.

True and I'm sure they will but they will always have to account for certain people. Bush is one of those.

If he shows he can be a threat runnung as well as receiving then it won't matter....as long as DT can do the same...even if its at a different level.

I just wonder how many single back sets we will run. If we do it with Bush then its like having an extra wide receiver and basically can be a running play or a 5 receiver set (spread)...like NE runs except they never really had a game breaking rb.

We got some players on offense it all depends if henne has improved or not.

If henne improves from last year then we have a shot.

Imo this is whats keeping us from getting to the next level.

1. We have some good players on offense....Marshall bess bush is a homerun hitter if he can stay healthy.....Weak link is QB........The OL
is a work in progress but we have some talent there...It all depends on the injuries but that goes for any other team.

2. With a young defense that played really well last year, the weak link been sean smith who i think will be much better this year......... Played outstanding against the run..... soliai is becoming a pro bowler this year.......LB and CB get A for talent.....DL probably one of deepest in NFL gets A plus for talent.

IMHO If this team would be a playoff contender if we had tom brady as the QB. Even superbowl contender. YUP One superstar at the main position on this or any other team would make huge difference.

This is probably the most surprising thing about the Reggie Bush addition...no one was expecting him to have a Jerry Rice or Zach Thomas type of work ethic.

It shows a necessary focus that should improve our offense.

Why is nobody talking about polite?

Is he still with this team...?

Last time i heard someone talk about polite he was getting a first down on those 4th and 1 or something. He was that good.

Did he get cut for monetary reasons?

He was a monster at the FB position. We need to keep players like that...Anybody else would be a downgrade IMO.

PS> I keep hearing The name Clay at the FB Position. Can't be nearly as good!.

Polite is at his best a short yardage specialist. He's NOT a very good blocker. He's NOT a very good receiver. In fact, he's a below-average FB. I'd rather see him listed as a RB with a short-yardage specialty. Unfortunately, if he can't play ST, that might not be enough to justify keeping him.

Clay is a well rounded FB, and I also feel Hilliard can play FB (he stepped in when Polite was hurt and did well). Both these guys can run, block, AND catch...which FBs are asked to do.

I like Polite, a lot. Those 4th and one conversions are extremely important to me. But his YPC dropped off a bit last year and I don't think he converted as many 4th and shorts last year. Plus a FB needs to be *great* at blocking to really secure a place on the roster. I think he's on the bubble, unfortunately.

PF2-
You are right there seems to be alot of TE's on the roster, for us to keep Polite and Clay... Sparano has been gushing over Clay alot lately... So Polite has to be pretty special in order to keep a roster spot... but I bet he gets picked up when we cut him

Wait a minute all of a sudden he can't block?

Didnt he had a few crushing blocks last year. I even remember the announcers talking about it.

And i agree we have a lot of running backs on the team. They are probably going to go with the youth...

Anyways those 4th and inches and 4th and 1 were very important to this team. It could very well be the difference between a win and a loss.

We'll see what happens..

I don't see Smith as a weak link on defense. He has been better than Davis and if he hung on to those dropped ints...as Sparano says....he's in the pro bowl.

The weak ling is at FS IMO but that's not to say we are bad there. Clemens is solid just need to make more plays....or Rasahd Jones.

Actually, yes, all of a sudden, he can't block. He was really quite lousy last year, both as a lead blocker and in pass protection. He graded out 29th in the league as a blocker, from profootballfocus.com, a massive dropoff from 2009. In 2009, he allowed 1 sack, and no other QB pressures. In 2010, he allowed 2 sacks, and 6 QB pressures. The problem is, when you are the FB, the guys you are blocking are blitzers. And when you miss 8 blitzers in a season, that is bad for your team and your QB. A QB expects his backs to pick up bltizers. When they fan on blocks, as Polite did last year, it usually results in a very bad play.

There are a couple of things working against him. The team has not kept more than 1 FB for a few years now. Charles Clay is working at FB, H-Back, and TE. If Clay makes the team, and 3 traditional TE make the team, there is no room for Polite. And Daboll's offense features a lot of 3 WR, single back sets. And a lot of more h-back formations than traditional I formations with a FB. So, his days as a Fin may be numbered.

The weak link of our defense is our offense and special teams, that, in the recent past, have put heavy pressure on the defense to play perfect just to give us a prayer to win.

Yeah, but Polite DELIVERED almost each and every time he was called on to do so on 4th and short, particularly inside the 5 yard line. If the guy is not called on to do anything ELSE in the game, that is worth a roster spot because that play often determines whether or not you win the game.

Don't be penny-wise and pound foolish.

Apparently he IS/ was? called on to do something else, and that is to occasionally block.

Having said that I am a fan of Lousaka and I *do* want him to make the team.

Lou is one of my favorite players b/c he's automatic on 3d and 4th and 1. But if that's the only thing he does well, I don't know if we can justify him at one of the RB/FB spots.
still don't know why we didn't show any interest in signing a blocking FB like Leach

This sounds a lot like the offense we ran under Shula/Marino. During that regime, our FBs rarely if ever carried the ball, but they were used heavily in the passing game. Keith Byars is one that comes to mind.

A FB like Polite would never have worked in that system.
