Parallels to the Pats '01 season...
Parallels to the Pats '01 season...

I was just looking at some of the stats from the 2001 Pats and I noticed a lot of similarity between their season that year and our season this year.

The previous season they were the division's bottom dweller at 5-11.

We were 1-15.

They started the season slow at 3-4, then exploded to 11-5.

We started 2-4 then went to 11-5.

Their pass attack, lead by 1st year starter Brady, was all about short, high percentage, and efficient throws and lead by a cool and confident QB.

Our pass attack is very similar...short, high percentage throws and lead by a cool and confident QB.

Their rush attack was very average.

Our rush attack has been average for the most part, but with talent like R&R and the Wildcat, we have the ability to be explosive at any moment.

Their defense was the classic "bend, don't break".

Ours is similar...we give up yards but most of the time, not the points. The biggest difference here is that we have a much better pass rush than they did. Let Porter sniff some blood, talk some trash, and let him loose.

Special teams is pretty much even from what I can see...stat wise at least.

But most of all, if you remember, the team was made up of a bunch of nobody's that worked well as a team. They were tough and gritty...not all of their wins were a work of art, but they got them. All that matters is finding a way to win.

I'm not really one for assuming what will happen today based on the past...but in this case if history is any indicator, we have a great shot. The Pats flew under the radar that whole post-season and got no credit. Kind of like us, right? Well that under the radar team won the Super Bowl.

We can do that.

We can do this.

Miami Dolphins 2008 SUPER BOWL CHAMPIONS!!!!

It's all about finding a way to win rather than finding a way to lose. The Pats have gone into every game the past few years EXPECTING to win. We've gone into most games since Wanny's last year to the end of last season EXPECTING we'd lose (i.e. we'd find SOME way to blow it). It's all about confidence. When you see your hard work pay off, it makes confidence contagious.

In 2001, yes.
Bryan Cox was always a nobody. Never liked him, he lost games for us shoulder bumping runners and not rapping up. Never liked him.

Not exactly...I will give you Emanuel and Vrabel and a few others but...

Ty Law - Pro Bowler
Lawyer Milloy - Pro Bowler
Troy Brown - led NFL in receptions in 01 & returned two punt for TD's.
Richard Seymour - 6th overall draft pick - 44 tackles, 3 sacks as a rookie
McGinest - 9 sacks in 99.
Woody - Starting Center from rookie year. Pro Bowler 02
Antowain Smith - 1157 yards 12 TD's in 01..first round draft pick.
Matt Light - 2nd round pick - started 12 of 14 games during his rookie season in 2001 and helped open holes for the Patriots running game, which averaged 112.2 yards per game.

They are Pats and I hate em all but I wouldn't call them nobodys. How can a Pro Bowler and a 6th overal pick be a nobody?

Joey Porter - Pro Bowler
Ronnie Brown - Pro Bowler
Ricky Williams - former league-leading rusher and former Pro Bowler
Tedd Ginn - 9th overall pick
Jake Long - 1st overall pick - Pro Bowl alternate as a rookie
Chad Pennington - Pro Bowl alternate - Most Improved Player - possible MVP candidate
Vonnie Holiday - '06 Pro Bowler
not to mention Bell, Ferguson, and Smiley, who could ALL have been Pro Bowlers this year.
