Sounds like a wussy philosophy IMO. No risk no reward could also be used.

The history of QB's in R1 that turned out to be great is overwhelming - so you better get on early and THEN hedge your bet with another in R3 or R4.

The reason we don't have a legit QB on the roster is because:

1) we haveen't had the balls/insight to take one in R1 and
2) we haven't continued to bring in solid QB prospects in the mid rounds EVERY YEAR to solve the position need.

The NFL is a QB driven league. End of story.

The story is a bit misleading but so is your comment.
Holmgren didnt draft Farve in rd 2 number 33, but he did trade a 1st rd (19) pick for him...lol

The Bill Walsh quote is misleading. He had only 2 QBs during his coaching career, Montana (who he took in the 3d) and Young (who he traded a 2d rounder and other stuff for). So he never needed to draft a QB in the first round. It's easy to opine on the wisdom of doing so when you're one of the few lucky teams to have a hall of fame QB, with another one backing him up.

That was Tampa that drafted him. Walsh traded for him.

I agree that this is a quarterback driven league. At some point you have to toss the dice and select a quarterback in the 1st. That is where most the great ones are found. Missing out on a franchise quarterback because you didn't want to possibly look bad as a coach is punking out. If you want to make it big, then you must take high risk for a high reward. So if you feel strongly about any of these quarterbacks then sell the farm. Ditka did it with Ricky, but he played the wrong position.

You are asking for something I never said, you made it up in your mind?Where did I say Walsh said anything about Gruden or Holmgren?

Well you misunderstood something ,I never said Walsh said anything about Holgren and Gruden,
Bilick wrote a story about the dangers of drafting a qb in the first rd, he then said two guys who had never done it. He then quoted Bill Walsh as having the same assumption.
Your first responce to the article written was, Bilick is a moron. I said he is quoting Bill Walsh, in the story, backing up his story.
SO if you are calling Bilick a moron for the stance and story he wrote, well he backups the philosophy, with quotes from Bill Walsh. He also points out that Gruden and Holmgen didnt draft a QB in the first Rd.

How does this or anything have to do with Walsh commenting on Gruden and Holmgren, and WHy the hell would that matter anyways. It is ludicrous, and has nothing to do with the philosophy. It is irrlevant, to the article posted and anything i said. All just assumptions you conjured in your mind, so you could take a stance to argue, which didnt exist, only to you.

First of all Bilick fell in love with a strong armed qb that he say drop to his knees on the 50 yard line and throw a ball thru the goal post.

I should say Ozzy Newsome fell in love and BB had to try and develop a guy without the it factor.

Clearly neither is very good at evaluating qbs. Ozzie just happene to get lucky with Flacco.

Bilick...like Gruden won a SB with a dominant def and a caretaker QB.

Its not even up to the coach most of the time. Its the GM...as is the case with Miami.

If u see a qb you believe in you had better go get him or you will sit back and watch teams like Atlanta and Baltimore and SD etc build a great offense while u worry about getting fired.

There is more than one way to get fired.
