I never understood why people hated him so much. He really was the best owner a team could hope for. Spent freely (especially on staff where there were no cap restrictions) and stayed out of the way. He may have hired some boneheads, but each of them were the consensus pick of who to get (JJ, Saban) or someone a "football mind" recommended (Wanny), and Cam was just the best of a bad crop when Saban fled at the last minute. While not everything worked, nothing he did you could say did not have the best interest of the team (as opposed to his wallet) in mind.

I hope this Ross guy is as good as Wayne. I am a little worried as his money is in real estate and we all know how that's been working out lately. Hopefully we never see a meddling and/or cheap owner at the helm.

Are you guys sorry to see him go?

If we lose Parcells simply because Wayne wants to avoid the increased percentage of capital gains tax that Obama will introduce, then someone needs to punch him right in the face.

I've always been a supporter of Huizenga, but I don't understand why he would sell the team one year after he basically promised Parcells that he wouldn't.

I think Obama's swearing in has to do with the timing of the sale, but not the decision to sell, which was made long before the nomination. I agree it would suck if we lost parcells over this.

This is why Obama was a mistake in a microcosm. I don't blame Wayne, he is just doing what many investors will do. Increasing the capital gains tax is thievery.

From my understanding of the situation, Huizenga was planning on maintaining majority ownership of the team for the remainder of Parcells' contract and only selling part of the team to Ross for now.

This seems to have escalated the timescale by a matter of years, not just months.

Business is business. I don't see Parcells going anywhere, he's just going to pocket some more cash.

Wayne was always willing to spend money to get things done. Right or wrong, football was a priority.

Ross is a long time Miami Dolphin fan but I just hope he is as generous.

At least we finally have a president that can spell "president".

Wayne H is a liar. Plain and simple.

He told Parcells he would not sell the team.

He gets one of the best football minds ever to right the ship.

Then he doesn't have the patience to see it though. He sells the team, after he said he wouldn't. LIAR.

Thanks Wayne. Now Parcells is GONE. Just before THE playoff game. Thanks. Thanks alot.

I definitely understand why Wayne is doing this. The proposed increase to the capital gains tax is going to blow.

I can't fault the dude for looking out for his assets. I'm sure I'd do the same in his situation.

and Bill Parcels said he wouldn't trade JT and Saban said he wasn't going to Alabama and....what goes around comes around.

If Ross can afford the tax increase then so can Wayne. I feel so bad that he will only make 100 million this year instead of 110. Geez, he might have dock his 77 million dollar yacht to save fuel costs...give me a break.

I think he just wants out to have less to worry about in his golden years. You can't blame him for that. He is turning 71 years old tomorrow for crying out loud.

First of all Parcells is not gone. Second, anyone who has a buyer with the right price and wants to sell would be a freaking fool not to sell now. The difference in cap gains tax that Obama wants is huge. So selling now is the smart thing to do if sell is in the short future.

Guys, don't talk business if you are going to let emotions get in the way. And this is a business, don't forget that. Loyalty goes as far as money talks.

How can anyone be anything but happy? We're in the playoffs!

I will always have some degree of negativity for Huzienga for having made the worst hire in the history of the Miami Dolphins. Dave Wannstedt set this ball club back years with bad drafts, boneheaded trades, and clueless personnel decisions. I don't care that Jimmy recommended him. Wannstedt had a history of being a franchise killer (see Chicago Bears). I never understood the hire and will always resent him for it. And I totally agree that once you're a billionare, it's a bit hard to feel sympathy for someone who is selling a storied franchise because he wants to save 1 or 2 percent of his net worth. Hopefully, Ross will be a hands off owner who lets the football minds run the show.

Nobody is asking you to be sympathetic. Wayne was planning on selling eventually. It just so happens that it makes more sense to it before a socialist takes office and steals your profit. It is a smart business decision plain and simple.

God forbid there be a tax on income from an investment!! Makes a lot more sense to pay for everything with money from people that are working. It is not socialism to tax the people, it is called government. Socialism would be the government taking over ownership of Wayne's companies and then sending him to a farm for "reeducation". Trust me, Wayne would have more than willingly taken the write off if he had lost money on the club.

Its obvious now that I shouldn't have mentioned Obama in my original post, for this is the bane of religion and politics.

I can only imagine that most of the football loving population refuses to be separated from their gun collection. My mistake.

There already is a tax on investment. The problem is that if (when) it's raised, investors are going to move their money into areas that offer better returns. Simple example: Moving funds into tax-exempt municipal bonds instead of stocks.

I didn't see myself talking politics as much as the business side of football. All I am saying is that if Wayne is going to sell, it is good business to do it sooner than later.

BTW: Capital gains taxes are only paid when you SELL the asset and if it's increased significantly in value.

SO if Wayne H didn't want to sell, the Capital gains issue would be moot--- no sale, no taxes.

Thing is, he really wanted to sell.... and wants to avoid the taxes, too apparently.

It makes a great excuse.

I'm okay with this Ross guy as long as he doesn't act like Jerry Jones or Al Davis and he doesn't move the team. I like Miami and I don't want the 'phins going anywhere. As far as all this capital gains tax talk goes, my attitude is this: I pay my taxes; everyone else can bloody well do the same!

Here's the deal....

Wayne can get top dollar for an asset (Miami Dolphins) while most assets available in the free world are at rock bottom prices. What do you think he's going to do with that money? Buy other business on sale. In 3-4 years, when the economy has rebounded full throttle, he'll be able to by 3 teams if he wants - including the Cowboys (who will probably be dirt cheap once Jones finishes running them into the ground).

This has nothing to do with Taxes or (more laughably) Politics. Its strictly business. Notice that Wayne timed the Parcells hiring so that the team's fiscal growth (e.g. ticket and gear sales are way up over last year) would appear maximized now? That would just drive the price he gets higher.

And this is my beef with Wayne all along. He is a business man, not a football fan. He's not a guy like Kraft or Rooney who will suck up to the commish so his team gets a few extra calls in the post season. He rewards the minions who provide the best ROI, not the most number of wins.

And so what we have gotten is upper mgmt. (team presidents and what not) that make the "safe" picks when hiring GMs and coaches. They hire guys like Wanny and Cam who we can all point the finger at rather than make tough hiring and firings. And for the past ten years the team has been run like a Fortune 500 corporation (which is Wayne's forte) rather than a football team.

I, for one, will be quite happy to see this team run by a football fan again.

There should be a difference between being a football fan and being an interfering owner. Wayne stayed out of the head coach's way when it came time to draft. Jerry Jones is always in the War Room on draft day and that really bugs me. At least you never saw Wayne in there, pretending that he can evaluate talent better than the coaches or scouts.

That's really worked well for Dallas and the Raiders hasn't it??

Wayne has been a great owner and all of the failures at coach are with hindsight in mind. He went out and paid top dollar to get the best guys available...

Despite the hate for JJ around here, he did a LOT for turning this team around, building one of the most dominant defenses of the 90's. Wannstedt was hired on his recommendation.

Nick Saban was the consensus best coach available by just about everyone... Cam Cameron was a little more controversial, but he was the high profile pic in a weak crop of coaching candidates.

Wayne KNEW his limitations... and tried to get someone with football knowledge in the organization to make the right choices for him (Dan Marino.) But, that didn't work out either. Thankfully he was able to get Parcells in the fold... again paying a LOT of money to get rid of the entire coaching staff hired just a year earlier, so that he could rebuild the team properly.
