Kyle Orton just signed with Dallas. Don't laugh, he is certainly as good as Matt Moore if not better.
We are not getting Manning--and this waiting on him stuff is really going to bite us, not just with getting a QB, but signing other FAs (who are being signed left and right while we hold our cap space on a prayer tha manning is coming here---he is not....)
We may not get Flynn---if SEA wants him, and he wants the most $$, he is going there b/c they have no money.
We may not get Tannehil, if CLE wants to overdraft him in the first.
We are not getting RG3.
We are on the verge of getting shut out altogether on the QB front---only way to avoid this is to sign (any likely way overpay) Flynn.
Screw Flynn, Moore proved just as much as Flynn last year. Moore was
6-6 as a starter. We lost to both superbowl participants by 3 points, DAL by 1, point DEN in OT. He had a 16/9 td/int ratio. He had only 2 games where he threw 2 ints and 6 where he threw none. He did not get flustered and really did not embarass himself at all. I would take him over Flynn in a heartbeat.
I do not see a problem with waiting to see how the Manning scenario plays out.
In my view this year there are a total of 3 QB's in play that, given the opportunity, we should have felt motivated to make a big play for: Luck (never really a possiblity), RG3 (dead issue now; probably could not have outbid Washington) and Manning.
If Philbin does not feel like we need to make a huge move for Flynn, then I am totally comfortable with that.
By the way, everybody is writing us off from the Manning race. I just don't see it. The entire ESPN staff has a hardon for the Manning-Broncos pairing, but if Manning is willing to wade into the middle of Tebowmania, he is far more brave or far less savvy than he seems. The Cardinals have no cap room. I have no idea about the situation in Tennessee.
The Dolphins are the safest choice for Manning: he can inspire others to perform better, and even if he lost a lot of zip on his arm or has to miss games to rehab, the fan base will still love him and won't create full-blown drama.

I cant fathom why you guys cant see the big picture.
Do you not understand that we will be running a totally different offense this year? An offense that Joe Philbin archetected, and Matt Flynn ran it to near perfection.
What's not understand is how some folks can be so f***ing stupid to want to dump a starting qb salary on someone who has only played 1 meaning less NFL game. Guess what Manning is not a west coast qb either and we sure as hell wanted him. What happens when we lock this guy in and he sucks and then the dumb a** coach who brought him in just has to stick w/ 'his WC qb'. Some of you fans need a dose of reality.
Only losing teams are interested in this guy, that should tell you something.
Forgive me but you really have to be dumb to want Matt Flynn as your franchise qb.
Im not sold on Peyton Manning as much as some. But if you understood football, then you would understand that Peyton Manning IS a system. If he came here, we would run what he wants.
You are right, Flynn is a system QB. And that same exact system is now here in Miami.
Matt Moore....well, I guess you can fill in the dots. Or, well, maybe not.
If we do end up having to go with Moore this season, we are going to look dumb as shit for trading the BEAST. The BEAST turned around his season when Moore started playing. The bomb against Dallas on Thanksgiving day comes to mind.

Got to do something, we don't have the cap space Seattle does...
It rains alot there, and smells in Cleveland....plus he's state tax free here, so what we do have to spend goes further....

RE: The same way some people can be so f****ing stupid to want to dump starting QB salary on someone who has not played a single NFL game, or taken a single NFL snap, or attended a single NFL meeting...the nerve of some people!
BTW, Flynn has started two NFL games and played in three...in all of which he put up good to great numbers. Also, what happens when we lock in Manning and he turns out to be a shell of his former self...its a major gamble either way. But Flynn is the lesser gamble.

I have said before and state it again: I am not arguing that Matt Flynn does not have the chops to MAYBE become a quality starter in a system that fits his talents.
But C'MON!!! To start him off as your long term franchise QB on a monster contract (different news reports mentioned 50-65 mill with a lot of guaranteed money) is a move that smacks of desperation. I hope that the Phins organization is smarter than this.
If he signs for 2-3 mil a year plus incentives for a two year term, and THEN he gets his monster payday because he is so awesome, I have no problems with it.

But the rumors of the salary he'd be paid are just that, rumors. They mean squat until he signs on the dotted line. And what prey tell would we have to pay Luck ot Griffin were we to get one of them...everyone would be really happy to hand them 40-50-60 million. I just don't really see much of a difference.
Either the guy can play or he can't...in his limited time behind an NFL center he's shown that he can. He's also shown it over and over at each and every level he's been at prior to being drafted.

I think this all needs to play out. As of tonight, no team has offered Flynn a contract. And so far, only Miami has shown any real interest. What if he winds up signing with us for $5M a year? That's not a franchise QB commitment. That is a new head coach bringing in a guy he knows he can run his system while they look for someone better.
We need to wait and see. If no other teams are bidding for him, he's going to get a lot less money than people thought.

If he signs on the dotted line a term sheet that befits his experience and risk that he might not work out, I wholeheartedly support him.
Welcome, Matt Flynn!!

Because Moore has limitations...and I think because he's the incumbent, he will be given a shot in camp. Doubtful he beats out Flynn, or Manning unless he's not healthy enough to play, but he'll get a shot at the job.
